The Ivey hotel is the absolute most chic hotel in CLT! It is boutique style and so modern. The room I stayed in was spacious and cozy. Their restaurant is sexy and has fireplaces you can sit by. The food and drinks are outstanding. 10/10! read more

My husband is currently at The Ivey and enjoying it! A few years ago he had a bad fall in Aspen. This was followed by a series of mini strokes that left him with severe muscle weakness in his legs and some cognitive impairment. I was at my witt's end trying to find help for him when someone mentioned The Ivey. Tim spends four afternoons a week there and really seems to relish every moment. Housed in a cozy building that looks like a ski lodge in the woods, their caring, efficient and well-educated staff out-do themselves everyday to provide a stimulating, enjoyable and non-threatening environment for their members. Because they are devoted to their cause and are caring people by nature, many of them have been at The Ivey since its founding. My husband loves their senior scholars program. Last week they talked about the Vanderbilt family and he was completely engaged, looking up references to them on my computer and the History Chanel. Next thing I know, he is researching a couple of artists, and reading up on shipwrecks. This certainly beats sitting in front of the TV for hours! Each day they have a socialization period, exercise, and discussions on a variety of topics. Sometimes they have dancing, singing, lectures and other entertainment brought in from the outside, in addition to music therapy, art therapy and PT. Specialized neuro-therapy from a neurology institute in Santa Monica, California is his favorite. They have invented tools for those challenged with cognitive decline. My husband is working to train his brain to respond through memory and movement exercises. I understand this is unique in Charlotte, and I have not seen anything quite like it elsewhere. Their Family Resource Manager is amazing, sharing years of knowledge about neurologists, logistics, prepared meals and just about anything you might need help with. As a caregiver, they have given me much needed downtime so that I can be my best when my husband is home. My mother always said there are angels among us if we just look fo them. I was previously a case manager at a mental health agency, when my mom developed symptoms of dementia. I really wanted to honor her wishes to remain at home with us and this was important to me given all of the sacrifices my mother made for me and my siblings. I spent weeks scouring the internet and making phone calls about day program options in our area and out of state. We took a family road-trip to determine where the best place to relocate to for mom was. I needed to find someplace she could go during the day to get socialization and love. My husband and I resigned from our jobs and we moved from the Boston, MA area to Charlotte. We moved so that my mom could attend The Ivey because after visiting The Ivey it was crystal clear to me that nothing else on the East Coast compared to it! The Ivey was an amazing place for my mom. It was beautiful inside and out and looked like a home not a medical facility. It smelled nice and most importantly the staff was of very high caliber which is not what I found when visiting other places. Other places were clearly just a business with staff more so motivated by their paycheck and not enough staff to meet the needs of those in need. The people at The Ivey are different and this was apparent from the first day I went in for an unscheduled tour. The Ivey became known to Mom as "The Country Club" and she was their newest member! Everybody had a smile on their face and all were so fully invested - physically, mentally and spiritually in their role of helping all of the seniors with Alzheimer's/Dementia who attended day program. It was a real Godsend to have The Ivey staff in my mom's life and in ours. They were a ray of sunshine and everything was done with love. The staff talked with so much genuine care and concern to mom, they danced with mom, and were always so affectionate to her and to us. Constant meaningful hugs were the language most understood by my mom and for my mom to be loved like that and then wanting to give love in return was a beautiful thing to see. Without The Ivey, my mom's quality of life would have been very different. I am forever grateful that The Ivey was part of my mom's journey and just as grateful that The Ivey was a part of me and my husband's journey as a caregivers. read more

The Ivey is amazing and one of a kind! My husband was there and loved it. He really enjoyed painting, dancing and "helping" Lynn and Eileen with their work. The staff took such good care of him and kept me informed when they saw changes in him from the disease. I can't say enough good things about The Ivey and the staff. read more

The day programs at Ivey are phenomenal. However, the transportation to ensure Dad gets to/from the facility is exponentially sub-par, frustrating, inconvenient and a complete security issue for our situation. I'm a single working mom taking care of my memory-impaired father. The transportation takes The Ivey's day programs from a 4- or 5-star to a 1- or 2-star. Who knows when, how long, what stops, or what other things will implement his safe arrival/departure/delivery back home. As much as we love your programs, we are very, very, very concerned about what you put Dad through to get him to/from home safely. Don't misinterpret: we understand you are helping our situation, but are you, in the end, helping him to feel safe, secure and confident that he'll return home safely? Every day is a different adventure for him, and as we know, consistency is KEY. Different routes and times really disturb and worry him, which makes our evenings a rough run on re-establishing love, continuity, and everything is OK. read more
