I went for "The Best Ever" Roastbeef sandwich and the name did not deceive. The beef was amazing and they did not skimp on the portion. I had the horseradish sauce on the side but happily added it back to the sandwich as it had a bite but wasn't overly spicy. I opted for curly fries to accompany my sandwich which were super yummy. My colleagues had a mix of burgers, pasta, wraps and they all enjoyed their food. I would happily go back here again and recommend it to friends!

Always seems to be busy and good to visit at any time of day or evening, if you can't get a seat right away, one will usually be free soon enough. Until this weekend I hadn't eaten here, presuming it was run of the mill pub grub. Wrong! I had difficulty choosing from the menu... I loved the sound of everything. I opted for a special; the Steak Philly baguette - at around £8-9 the dearest item on the menu. My friend had the italian sausage pasta. Service was quick and the food arrived piping hot after a short wait. Presentation was first class, and the food delicious. The steak in my baguette was flavoursome, tender and lean. The generous helping of steak was stuffed in the philly cheese -lined crusty baguette and served with salad and fries. Excellent value for money. It was the extra touches that made my Bar 91 review 5* instead of 4* one. A small but notable example being when I asked for a glass of tap water, it was served with ice and a wedge each of lime and lemon. And when a larger table came available, the staff asked if we'd like to move from our stool-seated bar - we stayed put, but it was great customer service. Looking forward to eating here again - the prices are excellent for the Merchant City, and quality is first class. So, now it's on my food-places list as well as drink-places. Yay!

I love The George because of how wonderfully friendly the atmosphere is. It's located in a relatively busy part of Hamilton, and during the day serves a wonderful pub-grub food menu. The bar is fully stocked with malts, spirits and a selection of a few foreign beers in the fridges. It's also one of the only real ale pubs in Hamilton, and has won best ale pub in Lanarkshire various times! It has 3 alternating taps, which are extremely popular with the regulars. There's a DJ on both Friday and Saturday nights, with the crowd on Friday night being nearly packed out the door every week! There's a quiz night on Tuesdays run by Colin, the owner, and on Sundays the food menu isn't on, but there is a wonderful piping hot pot of free soup for all! You'll never meet a more accommodating place, as both children and dogs are welcome, and the owners Colin and Lynn are truly wonderful people who really love and care for the place, and in turn all of their customers.

There are some tables and the bar is at the center with a nice display of alcohol both on tap and on the walls. Beer: there was large selection of beer and liquor to choose from. I was looking for a good stout and the bartender, Andrew gave me some really good recommendations. I settled on the Overtone Milk that he recommended and it did not disappoint. It was smooth, full bodied, and flavorful. Nice chocolate flavor with a hint of smokiness to it. My husband got the Drygate IPA and it was crisp and hoppy. Service: I always look for good conversation, attentiveness, kindness, and whether or not the server and or bartender was knowledgeable about what they're serving. Our bartender Andrew was all of the above. He was so welcoming, and my husband and I enjoyed the great conversation With him. He knew a lot about the selection of beers and whiskey, where it came from, and who it came from, so that was wonderful! Thank you Andrew for a great experience. So the conversation begins with 'are there any old women's pubs?' You think 'what are you on about…read moreyou crazy lady?' but then you think 'are there though'?' Ah ha!! You may wonder why I mention old lady bars, this is because The State reminds me of an old man's pub. It has the original features so has lots of wood and there's many old photos plotted around the seating area. I like them! Fortunately it does not reek of an old man's pub. You know that smell when you just walk by the door?! Bolk! The State is just off of Sauchiehall Street and just round the corner from the King's Theatre so this makes it a wee cheeky break from the pure madness of Sucksthelifeoutyou Street. The State is also good for wee gigs based downstairs in the basement. I've been to a couple of gigs and I do prefer a more intimate gig so sound was admittedly LOUD but it was good music I was listening to. *shimmy* If you want a wee change pop round to the State and I saw they also have plenty beers if you like beer. Bonus for beer drinkers! Enjoy!

The reason for reviewing again, is since 2009 The State has dramatically increased the variety, quantity and quality of its real ales/craft beers, offering such an excellent selection that it was crowned Glasgow CAMRA Pub of the Year 2014. This is no mean feat as there are literally thousands of pubs stretching from Oban to Rothesay, Glasgow to Strathaven, Biggar to Airdrie all included in the voting. Fan of Fyne Ales? Oakham beers? The State has at least one beer from each brewery at any one time, being a member of each brewery's "Pubs of excellence" schemes. This also means very difficult to get and one-off beers are often launched or sold exclusively here. It's just a really great pub. And it isn't expensive either. £3.50 max for a pint, including sometimes 7% beers (which I really should stay away from but it's too damn hard given how tasty they are!). If you're not sure of what beer you fancy, ask for a wee taster and the bar staff will be happy to oblige and share their recommendations. Go there now! DO IT! PS - I almost forgot... this is like the only place in the West of Scotland that shows live cricket... if that's your thing. There's also live football on the Sky Sports screens, but it doesn't attract some of your usual footy watching crowd who are just in the pub for the "bantz". The sound is never turned up that high either, but the conversation can make this a loud pub at times!

The mainly rock soundtrack made Bunker a bit edgy in 2004 but nowadays it feels a bit tired, as does the decor. Everything I've had, I've liked. It's all reliably tasty. You can't go wrong with any of the wraps, sandwiches, pastas or fajitas. And, except for the stairs-only entrance, it's incredibly baby friendly during lunch! The big huge booths are perfect for a pram to sit alongside and a baby to wriggle around in while you eat. The servers have been uniformly and consistently lovely to me every time I come in with my big unwieldy buggy. They go out of their way to make sure we're comfortable. I was not expecting that and it's definitely made me a loyal and grateful customer. I've also found the service to have improved, ironically, now that they've done away with the Express Lunch. I think it was putting too much pressure on the kitchen, which I'm sure took out on the staff, which in turn affected their ability to do their jobs properly. Lunches actually come out in better time now, and it's all around more enjoyable to have lunch without an egg timer counting down the minutes. So what I'm saying is--lunch here, and tip well.

I think because it's a bit out the way for me I never made the journey. This was the marvellous idea of Miss Angela B. who made a suggestion about a wee Yelp night out to a quiz. Gathering some of the Yelp peeps from all corners of Glasgow and putting our wee heads together to become the all powerful Yelp brain, we headed on down to the quiz night run by Sir James. OK so maybe we weren't a big powerful brain but we certainly had a good laugh. We were in the lead for most of the night, so not bad. I liked Bar Gallus, I liked the atmosphere and the decor was bright. I thought at first it was dead but it certainly filled up and this was only a Wednesday night. It must get pretty busy on the weekend. Oooh the added bonus is they sell fruit beer, hello!! Unfortunately I was driving, school night, so soft drinks it was. Next time!! The quiz was excellent and Sir James (I'm sure he's related to Harry Hill) had it spot on, making it a really enjoyable evening. It wasn't too slow or too fast and had plenty of good banter, he certainly has a few funny bones to give you a good giggle. Its just a gutter we didn't win. Och it's all about the experience. Right?

This pub, although being tucked away on a quiet corner where Church St meets Dumbarton Road, lives up to its name by having a lively atmosphere. Brightly lit and with booths tucked away like little bunkers on each side of the room, you can get yer chat on or have a wee dance to a local band in equal measure. Bands use this space to play quite often - there's a makeshift stage area by the door. This usually draws in a mixed bunch of people, from young cubs to Papa bears (that actually sounds a lot sleazier than I intended, I apologise!) There's a decent selection of booze and the surroundings are nice. But Gallus, for all its prime location, doesn't have the synthesized, pretentious attitude of a style bar, thus making it permeable to all who walk her way. A lovely place to warm your tootsies over a wee whisky this winter!
