After she finished the Math courses and prior to COVID starting, I purchased a reading class. Although the Sylvan centers in this area were still offering masked classes, I did not feel comfortable with my granddaughter attending - so I deferred sending her even though I'd already paid the money. Over a year later, after vaccines started and COVID was better, I contacted Sylvan to have my granddaughter start her class. This session was as different as day and night from the previous Math sessions. Whereas the staff had been very open and engaging, I found that I had to call or email several times to even get answers to any questions I had. The day prior to my granddaughter's last class, I realized that she'd had no reviews. I emailed Sylvan and asked if they still provided those. They said yes and for me to make an appointment. Well that was totally useless as she only had one more day of instruction left. I hate to say it, but I think since the money I'd paid them had already been spent over a year ago, they somehow didn't feel that they needed to be as engaged as before. Needless to say, I probably wouldn't use Sylvan again.

We put our notice in and did everything right. The refund is supposed to take up to 45 days. We are past day 60 now and have been lied to and given the run around. Told it was mailed. Didn't get anything in the mail. Tonight my husband called the center director and she said she had nothing to do with the refund a d gave him a 800 number to call to check on the status. He repeated it back to her and she confirmed. When he called the number, it was an adult hotline. Not a place you want to deal with. Sorry we ever stepped foot in the place.

In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, the library is hosting presentations that focus on increasing the understanding and acceptance of persons with autism (register at cmlibrary.org). The program which peaked my interest the most was the Black Owned Business Showcase which is held during Black History Month. It is a chance to meet successful African America entrepreneurs from the Charlotte community from various industries for information and networking. There is also the 'Reading Check up' which is supported by Learning Ovations, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and Read Charlotte. It is a program that prioritizes your child's reading need and it is free of charge in Mecklenburg County. This library was exactly what I needed! It's easy to access, with handicap-accessible pathways and a convenient one-level layout. Inside, it was clean, quiet, and welcoming; except during the occasional (and adorable) toddler reading sessions. Reserving a private study room was super easy--just scan the QR code to reserve, and a librarian unlocks the door when it's your turn. The WiFi was free and reliable, the bathrooms were spotless, and I appreciated that they allowed me to bring in water and my morning coffee. All in all, a clean, convenient, and accessible space for focused work. Highly recommend if you're in the area and need a quiet place to concentrate!
