When I moved to Chicago last summer, I applied with The Larko Group to work as a temp in order to get to know the city. TLG served my needs perfectly and then some. I wanted short-term (day- or week-long) assignments so that I could have flexibility in my schedule while I looked for permanent positions. Eva and Amy brought me plenty of temp work, but they also presented me with longer-term positions that they thought I'd be interested in or a good fit for. This really helped me in figuring out what I want to do for 40 hours a week and where. They were upbeat and absolute professionals, never wasting my time or pressuring me to pursue roles I wasn't excited about. I can't even begin to describe how horrific an experience this was. For starters, I was made to wait over half an hour while the woman I was supposed to meet was "finishing up phone calls" ... calls that went way into my scheduled interview. Time Management 101? As another reviewer stated, I was treated like an idiot and expected to come in and have my wardrobe approved on the way to my interview (which never happened). Not to sound like a snob, but I hold a BA and MS, and I have managed to brush my teeth and tie my shoes every morning for a number of years now. On top of that, she brought up two jobs which I was "absolutely perfect" for; when I followed up, I suddenly didn't meet the criteria but she "told me that" during the interview. Really? Extremely unprofessional! Seems the recruiter uses her recruits to find leads for HER next job. I submitted my resume while in NYC as I was preparing for my move to Chicago. I met with a recruiter Kate once I arrived to Chicago. A several weeks down the line, Kate happened to have found me on Yelp. She saw a review of mine and emailed me to say hello. We decided to meet since I was new to Chicago and she offered to show me around. While at the restaurant, I expressed how happy I was to have found a job ON MY OWN that I really enjoy. She mentioned she's also looking for a new role as well and asked if there were any openings at my company. I told her there was and that I could pass on her resume to my boss. Mind you, I've only started working for them for a week. After hanging out with her, she mentioned she'd like to contact my boss directly. I ultimately said no as I only just started working there. I told her she put me in an awkward position. I thought more along the lines of getting Kate's resume and passing it on to my boss casually. She had other ideas. We cut ties shortly after. The job I had closed shop which was sad. But, lo and behold, I see that Kate has reviewed my LinkedIn profile recently. I've found out she's looked through my connections and connected with my two former bosses. I'm not sure how long ago. First, I found her tactics pretty low in how she targeted someone new to the city to take advantage of for her own gains. Secondly, when I mentioned she put me in an awkward position, she said she'd back off. So much for that as she took it upon herself to look through my connections to find my managers behind my back. Prompt and Professional I worked with Laura and found the Larko Group experience to be much better than I had anticipated. I initially had reservations about going through a temp firm because I'm used to direct hire, but I wanted to expand my horizons in terms of seeing what types of positions were available. Frankly, I became very jaded with the whole "applying online to xyz company and crossing my fingers that my resume stood out". After inquiring about assistance through their website, I received a response the next day. I met with Laura who went through my resume and asked what kinds of positions I was interested in. I told her I would only prefer temp work if the right opportunities came along and low and behold, Laura was able to find some opportunities that I was highly interested in. Still apprehensive about the whole idea of temping, Russ and his team pointed out the benefits to what I was only putting time and dollar signs to: 1) Being new to a city meant to potential employers that I lacked knowledge in regards to local resources. I've worked with Larko on two separate occasions within the last year. After getting laid off unexpectedly in May 2011, I contacted Larko after reading promising reviews on Yelp. After interviewing with their staff, I was quickly set up with a temp receptionist assignment at a great company that lasted a month and a half. Then in Feb 2012, I voluntarily left my full-time job and immediately contacted TLG. Leaving a full-time job can be scary, but knowing I had connections at Larko was reassuring. I basically just picked up where I left off with them months prior and was quickly set up with more temp assignments. Overall, TLG is the best staffing firm/temp firm I've worked with in Chicago. I am deciding to post this review in hopes that nobody else has to experience what I went through with this company. I would NEVER recommend this group, and especially Abbey M, to anyone after the DESPICABLE way I was treated here. I was contacted by Abbey M after I applied for a position posted through the group. We had a phone call and exchanged several emails over the course of ~3 weeks. Abbey knew where I currently work (~30 mins from her office) and where I currently live (~1.5 hrs from her office), and she wanted me to come in to her office for an in-person interview. I offered a couple times to do a Skype interview instead since it was highly inconvenient and extremely out of the way for me to make the trip in to their office, but she insisted it had to be in person. So okay, I decided to make the trip against my better judgment. BIG mistake. I fought my way through rush-hour traffic into the middle of the loop. I miraculously arrived to their office on time, and I was greeted and escorted to an office, where I proceeded to wait for about 15 mins. During that time, I overheard the staff conversing, and I heard someone say, "Oh, you should just have her do a Skype interview", to which the other person (I'm assuming Abbey) frantically responded, "She's already here!" I should have walked out then. Abbey came into the room a few minutes later, no apologies for the delay in seeing me or anything. She then proceeded to basically tell me that my resume doesn't show the qualities they look for in candidates they hire for these specific positions. (I should add here that she'd had my resume for over 3 weeks at this point...) To top it off, she hadn't even brought me in to interview for any specific jobs currently available--she just wanted to go over my resume, which she'd already shredded to pieces in front of me. I sat numbly through the rest of the interview after that. I left their office depressed and in tears, $25 lighter (due to parking costs and a necessary dinner on the way back), and arrived home after my baby had already gone to bed. When I replied to her follow-up email later by politely letting her know that I was no longer interested in working together with her due to the lack of professionalism and common courtesy I was shown, she replied asking what she could do better in the future. She literally had no clue what had gone wrong, which I find completely unbelievable. DON'T come here looking for a job. It won't end well! read more

First off, not trying to gloat, but I have years of experience from some of the top companies in the world. I met with Jennifer, who was extremely phony, and started off the interview by saying she was so happy to meet with me and was impressed with my background. Then when I explained the situation of where I worked in the entertainment industry, she was prying for information on the companies I was interviewing with through this "other recruitment agency" I feel as though she calls candidates in to purposely belittle them and fish for companies that may be looking to fill roles. The conversation ended by her asking me to send her my references, and said she would follow up with a prove it test. I sent her my references, and asked for the Prove It Tests and she ignored my emails. Very bad representation of this agency, and on top of that, she knew I was there on my lunch break and took over an hour talking to me. I left feeling disrespected and disappointed to say the least.
