I didn't have a clue where to start and it scared me. Then someone (in the same boat) recommended Bevans. I phoned them up and they booked me in straight away, I headed up to their office and met a lovely lady called Lucinda who instantly put me at ease. She was honest and friendly and not at all condescending and sorted out my legal biz within an hour and the agreed fee. Easy peasy. If you're not used to solicitors and need a recommendation then seriously, Bevans is it.

We had already mentioned to the solicitor that our property was slightly different in terms of how it was mortgaged as it was a cornish unit. He failed to remember this and it was clear he hadn't read the documentation sent to him. When our mortgage was delayed due to the solicitors error, I had to ring him up and point out the points on documentation he had missed! While I didn't find the fee's ridiculous, what I did find outrageous is that the solicitor had not done his job properly. He tried to make out that our mortgage broker was at fault when clearly it was his mistake. That annoyed me more than anything else, trying to blame his error on someone else who had done a sterling job. Feeney & Co was recommended to me by my mother in law who found them charming. After that incident, the house sale went smoothly but I lost trust and respect as a result of trying to blame the incident on someone who had been really helpful.

Hugh Feeny has had over 500 clients a year for aprox 15 years and this is the only bad review he has ever received. I have myself used him for 10 years and have never once been let down by his services, in fact I've always been highly impressed by his costumer care and his ability to always know the right thing to do! His fees are extremely reasonable for such a fantastic service, and are alot cheaper than alot of other firms who frankly do not give half as good a service as Mr Feeny. I would recommend Feeny & Co solicitors to anyone that asked me above any other firm, (and trust me I've used alot in my time) and Mr Feeny always does his job properly.

What I consider to be a little different about Corfield's is their fixed fee scheme - so rather than be charged by the hour you are charged by the job for things like wills, and house/flat sale or purchase. Unfortunately, probate is charged by the hour, understandable to anyone who has dealt with probate and know it's unpredictability. Corfield's cover most legal aspects and sometimes it's nice to use an independent, Bristol based company such as this other a big cooperate money maker.

What they actually specialise in is commercial and personal legal matters. A friend of mine consulted one of the solicitors at this practice a while back about what he could do about being laid off. He felt that he had a case for unfair dismissal because the company he worked for let him go as part of their efforts to make cut backs, but continued to employ colleagues who had worked for the company for less time. He was given a free half hour session to discuss the matter and found that he was given all of the advice that he needed without needing to book a further appointment. It was ultimately decided that he had no grounds for a case as he did not possess the same skills and experience as his colleagues, and this was the most likely cause of them being retained. I think that the fact that solicitors offer free advice to people like my friend is wonderful. He would not have been able to afford to pay for it otherwise.
