Though my children are quite different from each other, JHELC has been able to cater to their individual needs with ease. My daughter had a fantastic summer. The staff at ELC kept her inquisitive mind at work - she was tasked and happy, soaking up their weekly themed programming. They wore her out with playing too, which is not an easy feat. On the other hand, they have treated my son with a more gentle touch, working with him on communication - his greatest obstacle. His language skills have greatly improved since starting at JHELC & I know that's it's not because he's not being heard there - it's because he is. This review may seem a bit biased, but it's only because I have been so happy with my experiences at JHELC. My kids love the staff and I know that the staff genuinely and passionately care for them too. We are welcomed with open arms every day and my children are treated as individuals with unique needs and keys to learning. The staff is open to input and feedback, which is very important. The administration is hands on and always enthusiastically working to elevate the program.

The teachers were warm and attentive and the activities were fun and creative. The owners have always been kind and have supported me as a parent. I strongly recommend JHELC, in fact, I now work there too and feel very fortunate to be part of the staff.

Not gonna lie, this review was wholly inspired by Britton…read more I went to school here, not just to some event (sorry Jeff, no hard feelings). The good: small classes, and you get out of school like 3 weeks before public schools do! I had some fantastic teachers here, although I think the science department is definitely the weaker spot in their curricular offerings. Extracurriculars are pretty hefty for such a small school (my graduating class was 32 people) and the college counseling is top notch. The bad: well, it's pricey for sure (hey it is a private school) and has high turnover for young teachers, my guess is they go there to get something on their resume and bounce t better paying jobs pretty quickly. The ugly: it doesn't get clique-y, but some of the kids definitely aren't there for an education (think upper middle and upper class brats who just don't care). If you're a scholarship kid, you definitely get moments of insecurity and feeling like you just don't belong sometimes (I was a scholarship kid, trust). It's definitely a good option for schooling your wee ones (and not so wee ones, the school runs nursery through 12th grade), especially if you don't want to deal with the Manhattan private schools, which are way snottier and way more filled with drugs and nonsense.

The atmosphere in the school is warm, caring, supportive and at the same time academically challenging. They make every child feel like they are seen and heard. BEST DECISION EVER!

I signed up both my kids for GT testing years ago, and for an afterschool program relatively more…read morerecently. My experience is mostly disappointing. Hope things have improved over the years. I am giving one star because back years ago, one tutor worked hard with my kid with special needs. After that their GT tutoring of my otherwise highly advanced student failed. I ended up preparing him myself. And he is in a gifted program but only because of me. The teacher misinformed me that my child had covered all Material - turned out at home, he didn't. Not sure why the teacher decided to spin reality - I think he didn't care. Next, when we tried their afterschool program- another disappointment. Their staff didn't know how to work with kids. They insisted that I take him out because he wasn't able to do homework on his own. Irene called me every day, harassing me at work and creating urgency where it didn't exist. Again- failure to work with kids in this business is failure at everything. I thought people should know that this space cherry-picks the kids they want that are "iklass compliant" and that they push other kids out through harassing calls. Good things have changed over the years and they have learnt to be inclusive of all learners. No kid learns the same way. And they should absolutely know that in this business.

The place is very clean and my daughter was always happy to attend during summer camp and I can't wait to try remote learning days here. Thanks to all the teachers I believe you are all very hard workers and really care about the children being happy and safe!!
