Christopher's Fine Food and Wine has become a favourite of locals in the southern Brisbane suburbs…read moresince its opening in 1989. With a huge range of wines, tapas and gourmet homemade cuisine it's no wonder they pull a good local crowd. I ventured to Christopher's for lunch and was immediately impressed. They've worked hard on creating an atmosphere of cool and calm, and it works. Dim lighting, relying mainly on natural outdoor light through the entrance, and chic furniture make Christopher's look a class above other businesses in the area. The staff were friendly and greeted us within seconds of our arrival. They were more than helpful, and eager to make our dining experience a memorable one. The consensus on coffee's was an all-round thumbs up. Using Merlo coffee as their supplier, Christopher's presented us with great looking coffee's that were smooth with a rich, bitter aftertaste. Delightful. The meals arrived quickly with no mistakes. They were presented well, and everyone seemed impressed. But here's the only problem. Half of my friends didn't enjoy their meals. A bit bland was one response. Too doughy, was my friend's thoughts on her pizza. Another's chips were soggy and old. We were almost surprised that these meals weren't as impressive as every other part of our experience had been. What was going to be a 5 star rating suddenly turned into about a 3.5 star rating. Overall it was an enjoyable few hours, Christopher's just about ticked every box. Maybe the chef was just having a bad day.

The breakfast menu is available until 11am, after which there is a nice selection of burgers on offer. We arrived just in time for brunch, so I chose the breakfast bruschetta, which consists of 2 poached eggs, bacon, tomato, and basil pesto on sourdough and I was very happy with my choice! The eggs were cooked exactly to my liking with runny yolk and no runny bits of egg white (I'm very picky with poached eggs), as was the bacon which was well cooked. The bruschetta was really tasty with the basil pesto giving a really subtle kick! I really like the atmosphere of this place, we took advantage of the beautiful weather and sat outside, but even on cooler days the outside area is under cover and from memory there is an outdoor heater. There are bench tables and smaller tables to choose from as well as some indoor seating, it's nice and cosy. I will definitely come back here to try the burger menu! TIP: The takeaway bircher muesli and paleo berry and banana bread are also pretty tasty!
