I enjoyed this bar during my visit, especially later in the evening when the upstairs club opened. There was a cover charge to head upstairs, where there was a central bar, a dance floor, and a DJ that really sets the mood. If you're looking for a fun spot to dance with friends and keep the night going, I would definitely recommend checking this place out. *We did wait in a line for 10-15 minutes and it seemed daunting however once we were in line it moved rather quickly. read more

The bouncers were nice and down to earth. I immediately had to leave due to the smell. We walked in and it smelled like someone drank a gallon of beer and puked it all over the walls. Most humiliating moment I have ever experienced, the staff were rude and ruined my birthday, denied serving us when we had already bought drinks with no explained reason, asked for three types of ids throughout the time me and my friends were there celebrating a should of been fun night . The woman with the short black hair laughed in our faces and said what am I supposed to do with three types of id including a drivers , passport and university id and said she didn't believe we were all 18 when we are 18+ tried to take our drinks away and gaslighted my friend into thinking she was insane. We were all celebrating amongst ourselves and not disturbing anyone , I hope no one ever goes to this pub it's an awful experienced and I am still humiliated from it , I am sure the woman who did this had another motive than the ids awful person I hope she gets fired. read more

This was the Plan B for the evening, the first having too big of a queue when I reached the point of hangry. The menu is an interesting mix of barbecue meets pub food. The decor is also a cross between Southern American steer heads and elegant wallpaper and a chandelier. I'm not sure if it's trying to be casual or classy. There is a decent selection of American beers and a few cocktails and wine. For food we went with two burgers- Kickflip and Birdman. Kickflip was substantial but had a bit too much barbecue sauce for my liking. Beef burger with cheese, lettuce, onion and pickles. Birdman had a mix of fried chicken with slightly spicy peanut butter. It was original but wouldn't order again. The fries were well seasoned and cooked. Not too thick or thin, I enjoyed them. The bbq chicken wings were good but slightly dry. The sauce helped to dress them up. Overall it was a good meal but nothing I will be rushing back for soon. However it's the kind of place you can count on to hit the spot should you be out drinking. read more

I was pipping on to Miguel last night that this place was a 4 star venue and then once I had had a little sleep on it, I cam back with actually thinking this is a solid 3 star joint. If you like Bourbon this place will be right up your street. They have a "wall of Bourbon" like The Charlotte Street Blues Bar and some cocktails that will really put hairs on your chest! We came here for a relaxed after work CMYE and actually it was ideal, we started with a drink and then ended up staying for dinner. Their Mac and Cheese was good enough for me anyhoo, I think me adding ketchup to it grossed out some of the Americans but Linzi M knew it was needed. I went to this place when it was Clockwork too, it has been The Lexington since November last year and actually it looked pretty similar. They still have a gig space downstairs and the poster up showed they had some cool bands coming in. As a Texas girl visiting London for 2 weeks, I felt right at home here at the Lexington. Upon entering the downstairs lounge area I was immediately excited to see longhorns mounted on the walls. Lush velvet wallpaper covers the walls and up above a huge fabulous chandelier (see pics). The beer selection was diverse and I am not a bourbon drinker but their are many choices if you fancy bourbon. I came here to see a Texas band called The Band of Heathens, so after my first beverage I walked up the stairs and was impressed by the small raised stage and the intimate feel of this small venue. Being only 5'4 I could actually see the show! The concert was fabulous and I enjoyed every second of my time at the Lexington. read more

The Lexington is an institution, I've been going there for pre-drinks ever since they put that Wynona Ryder poster up at the bar... Yes that long! Good as a local meeting point with a couple of nice beers on tap and high ceiling. A nice bright invigorating pre party stop off! Although it's only recently I ventured here for Sunday lunch. The food is great, it's everything that you want a Sunday lunch to be... but there's a problem... The portion size is quite small and it's quite expensive! We opted for the lamb and the beef, £16.50 to £17.50 respectively... which came with a fluffy Yorkshire, potatoes and veg. There was a decent amount of meat too. Apparently it also included a bloody Mary, but the woman at the bar completely forgot to mention this (and it wasn't mentioned on the menu), as we had to go up to ask after another staff member commented. Frustrating as we'd already ordered beer and honestly it would have been nice to have a choice as to have a BM or not. I took quite a while for our food to come out as it only seemed they had a few staff, we were quite hungry so it felt like we waited for an eternity. However we finished still hungry that even the £5 sticky toffee pudding couldn't fix. The also offer live music on a Sunday so that's a plus, however as we didn't go for the music, it was more of a plus than a prerequisite. Thinking about it logically £17/18 isn't that much, but it felt like a lot and our stony faced waitress didn't help. So I'm torn - it was good... however I personally wasn't comfortable with the price. read more

Best thing about this place is the staff. So friendly and laid back, it was like being at a house party and the hosts just kept bringing food and booze over, stopping for a chat and sharing some Haribo. The pub, on the other hand, is a bit schizophrenic. Big velvet armchairs and sofas sit stranded in the middle, with wooden booths at the side. Again, like hanging out in someone's front room. Don't be a dumbass and order a big whiskey filled cocktail, if you're not really sure you like whiskey. Order some nachos and crispy calamari instead. Went there for a concert, arrived a bit earlier and wait in the pub, it's nice and cosy. They have a old-vintage decoration with big armchair and wooden table, the idea you might have for an Old English Pub. We order beer of course and waited until the first floor opened for the live concert. The stage has good dimension for a pub and it's spacious also for the crowd. The accoustic was good and the 3 bands that performed that night where all good. I will definitely come back either for another concert or just for a drink in the neighborhood. read more

The Lexington (formerly Clockwork) has recently been taken over by the people that run The Buffalo Bar (in Islington). This venue, however, is completely different to The Buffalo Bar in both look and atmosphere. Clockwork had a somewhat clinical feel to the bar but The Lexington is decked-out in plush leather sofas and vintage lamps, with a real retro Americana feel to the place. Upstairs is the music venue / club, which hosts White Light on Fridays (the same people who do White Heat at Madame Jojo's) and various rock / indie promoted nights. There is also a bar upstairs, with a great new sound system, making it the perfect music venue. The fact that the music venue / club is upstairs makes it nice to dip and and out, having a good old chat downstairs and catching all the music action on the floor above. If you are around on a Monday, Rough Trade (the shops) hold a pub quiz every week. Entry is only £1 and features questions on everything indie and otherwise. Good fun! This is a great upcoming venue and one to watch whether you be a live music fan or are just wanting to stop by to have a drink in comfortable and luscious surroundings. read more

I like a lot of things about this place -- the mass of music mags/papers/flyers (it's a gig spot apparently), the victorian velvet chairs, the very friendly staff (who accepted my offerings of haribo), and quite decent nachos and buffalo wings. But the space just feels a bit awkward to me, with the old school decor amist a giant beige pipe running all along the ceiling. But maybe that's just me. Wide bourbon selection, and their cocktails will kick you in the face, on the real. I'm almost convinced they free pour. And by free pour, I mean drown the ice in alcohol. read more

Just read a few reviews before leaving mine and I had no idea The Lexington was supposed to be an American style bar?! I thought it was quite an English style pub. Although I did notice a hell of a lots of whisky bottles behind the bar - I don't really like whisky though..... I came here to see the band TOY and thought the upper floor stage area was really good. Quite spacious and you could see the stage really well even though I was at the back and am 5ft4. The downstairs bar area was nice too. lots of big comfy booths - great for after work drinks with friends. Nice staff behind the bar. Loos were a bit rank and weren't flushing. The doormen were really nice too - I arrived alone and always feel a bit intimidated approaching bouncers when alone but they were very nice checked my bag very politely and with a smile. read more

Came here on a Thursday night for some beers with friends. The venue is interesting, there is a very large bar area but instead of the tables and benches I was expecting there were some couches and armchairs thrown in. The staff was friendly, very knowledgeable about their menu, and the drinks were fine. However, nothing except the decor made this venue really stick out and leave a lasting impression in my mind. If I walked past here again I would most likely stop, but I would not make the Lexington my plan for the night. read more

I am consistently here on a late night... as there seem to be a lack of late licensed hang outs in Islington on weekday evenings it seems everyone slips down the party funnel and lands in the Lexington. But life could be worse. Plenty of indie bands upstairs, if you arrive early enough you might not be charged entry to see them. Downstairs has a quite genuine non-pretentious vibe. Yes those 'exposed services' cutting across a crumbling ornate ceiling are anything but intentionally distressed or stylised, perhaps a little breathe of fresh air from the likes of Upper Street or New Kings Cross. DJs downstairs spin a mixture of swing or rock'n'roll at the beginning of the week more as a background entertainment and the sofas on the fireplace platform are a great place to dwell with a large group of people or (in)conspicuously make out for a few hours (based on the usual company). By Friday the music turns into hip hop or 90s jam with increased volume and the floor turns into a grinding arena- less the quiet catch up with one of the many proffered bourbons the Lex have scrawled on the bar wall. Open until 2 on weekdays, maybe 4 for weekend nights. Still unable to comment on the food, therefore still more reasons to come back. Lex I like you and you're growing on me... read more

Honey Bee shot is WHERE IT'S AT!! Honey whiskey mixed with Baily's. I could drink it all day, all night. Delish. This bar is usually packed on the weekends but for good reason. The music selection is good and it's a chill bar with a rowdy crowd without the club feel. The ground floor has tables and seating while the upstairs is more of a club/dance floor. The bartenders are nice and the drink selection is wide, especially the beers! Lots of American brands, which is comforting for an American living abroad. Also, ask about the membership card. You get 10 percent off drinks with it. read more

Lexington, Lexington you confuse me. How do you only serve wine at the upper level bar where the gigs are? I saw a show here (Small Black) and felt utterly exhausted by the end - during one performance smoke filled the room to a point where I couldn't see the stage. However I do enjoy the fact that the stage is raised so that when I can see, I see the musicians from wherever I stand. Other than that, it's really just an A-OK place. read more

The following is a review of a concert at The Lexington: Never before have I had so much trouble describing what sort of music a certain musician plays. King Charles, an artist I recently saw perform live, mixes so many different genres that there really is no way of defining him. I'll do my best though. He manages to combine spoken, folk, and rock vocals, forming a "freak folk" sound. He's a demon on the guitar (good thing), and is amazing at interacting with the crowd. King Charles (and his band) are the perfect example of performers loving what they do. As they play, each person's unique personality shines through. Though I don't believe this band is for everyone, I see them coming on strong in the indie scene in the upcoming year, especially once they release a full-length album showcasing their talents. They grow on you quite a bit after you listen to a few of their tracks (to the point where you can't get the songs out of your head). I really believe that they have the potential to have a hit sometime in the near future. Oh, Lexington. It was love at first sight, but my affections have cooled since then. This pub is more or less my local, being about five minutes' walk down the road from where I live. On my first visit, I'd already had a few and settled onto one of the comfy back couches for a spirited chat and a Goose Island. They played Dum Dum Girls, which was pleasant. I was very excited to have found a place with an interesting decor and decent music so close to home. Since then, less exciting. On the occasions I've been in, the DJs run either very hot or very cold. Came in for the Friday club night and was disappointed to find it was full of creeps and lackluster pop. I'll come in for a convenient American craft beer when I have a little money to spend after work (they run around £4), but I can't see it being a weekend destination. read more

We went for lunch today (18/12), the place was empty at 12.15, and we got shouted at because we, as a party of 8 wanted to push a table together. The person behind the bar actually made my friend cry she was THAT rude. I asked again and was told it was "policy" that tables could not be pushed together because it might get busy. We left at about 13.15, it was still empty. Policy or no policy that just not justify you shouting at anyone, customers or not. It's totally unacceptable. Managers you really need to review the behaviour of your staff. read more

For me the Lexington didn't live up to expectations, but was okay nevertheless. It's a pretty big place, with loads of space and high ceilings, but still managed to be rammed when I swung by on a Friday night. Maybe I hang around two many specialist beer places, but for what is supposedly an American-themed pub, I found its range of beer disappointing. Standard Sierra Nevada, Anchor Steam Porter (tasty, I'll accept) and Brooklyn Brewery Lager. Hmmmm. It's possible that Byron has a more impressive range of US beer than that, before the likes of the Draft Houses found across London even start to be mentioned. Still, there were some unexpected surprises. First was a delightfully tasty local porter on tap - Revolutions Red Beat, dee-lish. Another was the people promoting a Jim Bean cherry bourbon by doling out free shots. I won't say no to that. There's also the much-vaunted range of bourbons that I didn't have the opportunity to try. We stayed a couple doors down in Islington, so we visited a couple times since this was our local bar. We didn't even go to a show. Just saw the bar. It's open until 2, thank god. The downstairs main bar has got red velvet walls scattered with antlers and other random decorations. Feels.... unique for sure. Has a pretty young crowd. They have a good beer selection and also some special drinks. Food was good too - we ate a proper English dinner here for our last night and were pleased. The Lexington is fine. I haven't had the food, or been to any shows, but the bar is quite cool. If you like bourbon, this place is wonderful. (I don't really like bourbon.) They have a big selection of American beers, and I can't lie...I've popped in for a Sam Adams when I was feeling a little homesick. The decor is a bit strange but interesting, and while it can get crowded in there it's not totally impossible to move around. I've met some really friendly people here, as well! In partnership with JaJaJa music, the Lexington is the home of Scandinavian club nights. This is my favourite thing to do in London as I have found so many amazing Scandi bands to feed my Scandimania from these gigs! The venue itself, not amazing. The prices are reasonable. The stage area is a good space, with a basement gig type feel that I think adds to the atmosphere. I have witnessed many magical moments there. The main problem I have with the Lex is the ladies toilets. Every time I've been it's either the door to the stall has no working lock, no toilet paper or the toilet seat is completely broken. The cleanliness of the toilets is far from great. However, if you want to see some great indie bands to give you some street cred with your friends, the Lex is a small intimate venue that often hosts amazing bands, where you're sure to meet the artists afterward. read more

If you're a homesick American boozehound, this is THE place to get your drink on, with a fantastic selection of bourbons and rye whiskies, as well as good American craft beer on tap and in the bottle. The food was really great as well. My husband's burger was tasty and on a brioche bun, with a big pickle, and I had a pastrami sandwich that really fit the bill. Not sure what it's like as a music venue, but if I'm ever in the neighborhood again, I'd totally drop by for lunch. read more

This is a great venue to see a band. The upstairs room is small and intimate with good views of the stage from most of the room (just avoid the pole). The decor is a cut above most dingy live venues, with a glowing orange bar, and plush red curtains and walls. The downstairs bar feels like a rambling lounge room and specialises in whiskey, bourbon and American beers, but you can still get the staples on tap (various lagers and guinness). Definitely a music venue, with regular live music, a weekly rough trade music quiz, rock and roll bingo, a decent juke box, and open til 2 most nights. My only complaint is the slow service, both at the bar and the 'ticket desk' - it's more than a little frustrating watching them take 3 minutes per person to collect their £6 and stamp your hand if you can hear the band upstairs starting to play. read more

One of my current favourite venues in North London. I'm a fan of the space upstairs and it suits both gigs and nightclub events. For gigs it's the type of place where you can stand in lots of different locations and still see. At club nights there's a stage to get involved with which I'm always a fan of. Prom Night is a really fun 80s night once a month. The bar is often shortstaffed and can take quite a long time to be served. That's probably my only downpoint. read more

This place used to be called clockwork but has re-opened as 'The Lexington'. The theme being an American whisky and live music venue. I went to last nights opening and unfortunately I was too late for the freebies, but I was presented with my 10% discount card (valid until June). I'm not an expert on American Whisky, but the menu did look impressive, with loads of bourbon ranging from £3 to £20 a shot. I did try a couple of the American bottled beers though and was impressed. I enjoyed the vibe of the place; it was a good mixture of Students and locals. The music (duke box) was a mixture of Zeppelin, Clash, Kings of Leon, basically Indie/Rock; So fine with me. The staff were friendly as well which is always a good thing. It's open until 2 Mon- Thur and the 4 on Fridays and Saturdays. Great Stuff! read more

Let's get it out there, if I could give this place zero stars I would. Thanks to the incredibly rude staff members, our evening was ruined. On two occasions we witnessed the bartender pour mixed drinks from the end of empty bottles - therefore actually not pouring the drinks we paid for. We politely asked him to rectify his mistake. He was none too pleased. After the second incident he handed us a card machine that read £1190.00 for three drinks (a very lage tip for this bartender) and tried to get us to punch in our pin. Luckily we caught the mistake before our bank account was violated. At first he shrugged and said that's what it costs while winking at us several times. Does he really think we are that stupid? He never apologised for the mistake - which could have been financially detrimental depending on how much was in the bank account. He behaved in a way that suggested he had entered that insanely high amount on purpose just to see if if we'd go for it and I'm pretty sure he thought it was a shame we caught him - not terrible, not incredibly embarrassing, but a shame, because it would have been fun for him to get one over on us. When we complained to the bar manager about the bar staff's behaviour, the manager misrepresented himself as the owner. Clearly trying to get us to "go away". Unfortunately for him we were aware of what the owner really looked like - and SHE was not around that evening. I won't be taken for a fool - I won't be treated like a moron - and most importantly I will not stand for poor customer service. This place will never see another penny from me. read more
