It's hard to believe that a little over a year ago I had never been to The Liars Club! What a fab place. I've been many many times since and now I live so close by, it's one of my local bars on a night out. This underground tiki-themed dive bar is small, but always has the best atmosphere. The drinks are all yummy, mainly rum based and the cocktails are a delight to watch being made and to drink! The bartenders in Liars are very friendly and are always up for a laugh. I do find that Liars Club is better during the week than at a weekend - the weekend gives off a different vibe, and gets a little too busy for my liking - but rest assured you'll have a good night in here no matter when you visit. read more

Me and my homies needed some libations while we gossiped and caught up so I decided this was a great place to go after dinner. Plus, I read this place was known for its many types of cocktails so I wanted to check it out! The bar is well decorated and looks like it was taken from a set of the cheap version of Gillian's island or something. The decorations can be considered tacky, but come on... It's a tiki bar! I give props to them for their effort. They have a big cocktail menu so don't come here for just a glass of wine or beer... Nope, you're in the wrong bar for that! When we ordered our drinks, we found out that there was a 2 4 1 deal, so we ended up with one extra drink...score! We ended up ordering the zombie (it had fire so I thought it was cool) and three others I can't remember... Haha. All I remember is the drinks were strings, some were well mixed while others were eh it was ok... Just tasted like alcohol. Though the bar is cool, it does have a smelly funk to it so prepare to close your nose especially if the place is crowded...the drinks are cool, pretty creative but the art of making yummy cocktails is kinda lost because the proportion of the juices and alcohol isn't quite well done. Oh liars club, you are a double edged sword, One of my places to go in town but I also have a little part in the back of my head going 'this is going to be a long (hazy) night ahead' Having been introduced the Tiki bars via Keko up in the Northern Quarter to find basically a larger version of Keko so close to my office in spinningfields was awesome/lethal. Good layout if maybe a little on the dark side (don't want flood lights but maybe tap the dimmer switch up a millimetre or two), never seems to get heaving which is a plus. they do other drinks beyond rum cocktails, I have no idea on the other drinks though, i'm there for the Zombies, someone hands my a cocktail in a pineapple pint glass they've just set alight with a blowtorch why would I want anything else... oh wait there is one other thing I would want, a wooden chest with several half-pint pineapple glasses set a light with a blowtorch for anyone getting lost by the above statement, the Captains chest is pretty cool from a showmanship point of view, a wooden Chest that just about fits on your table, filled with cocktaily goodness set on fire like the zombies. It's a straight ton that you'll hand over at the bar but it works out ok if you're used to paying cocktail prices in general read more

Tiki bars are evidently popular. Some combination of naked fire, rum and grass skirts clearly appeals to Manchester drinkers, since this is now the city's third place. And it's OK. They appear to have maintained the relaxed no-cover-charge door policy of the Purple Pussycat, which is respectable, and the staff are friendly. There's a reasonable feel to the place, though for me Hula still edges it slightly (never been a Keko Moku person, that side of the NQ is not so pleasant). Going a little off-piste, I ordered the Tommy's margharita, only to be told that they had no agave syrup, so they'd do it with honey instead. Didn't sound right to me but I gave it a go. It was ... OK. Not the worst marg I've had but some way away from the best. Perhaps the trick is to stick to what they (presumably) do best: rum. read more

The best place in town for a zombie; the drink with a big big kick! Mixed up in this alcohol filled cocktail is a variety of rums and fruit juice served with a passionfruit half and set on fire for your enjoyment! Warning: you will only need one of these bad boys as its enough to pickle you! As for the tiki bar itself - nice and chilled out place with comfy seats around the edge and plenty of decor to match with your bamboo huts! Downside: the later it is in the night means the toilets are never in tip top condition! Liars is always on my hit list at the beginning of a good night! read more

Great bar serving fab cocktails and playing sunshine music - a great place to hang out as the nights start drawing in - makes you feel like you are on holiday rather than in the grey rain! The guys behind the bar really take pride in their creations and it is a sight to behold when they prepare your drink Love the fab that it has a heady Cinnamon fragrance when you walks in and the guys seem to always be setting something on fire - not themselves luckily . This 'dive' bar as they call it is a nice change to your usual bar in the area. It would be more at home in the Northern Quarter than where it is. You enter through a staircase down an alley. You could easily miss it if you don't know it's there...Look out for Crazy Pedros next door which the Liars Club also own. As you walk down you are hit with a nice sound of smooth regae music which is good if you're after a chill out with a few mates. The dimly lit seating areas are probably not to everyones taste but they work for me. The beer here isn't up to much but why go to arum bar for beer? Cocktails are where it's at here. There is an extensive cocktail list which I'm about half way through & yet to have a bad one. My favourite up to now is the Zombie - just watch your hair as they set it alight! I doesn't usually get busy till gone midnight but they do open at 5 and offer 2-4-1 between 5 and 9 Sunday - Thursday which is good. I usually head here on a Sunday when it is more chilled out. We stopped in on a stopover in Manchester on the recommendation of some staff of another local bar I won't name. It was the most unexpected and random night out in Manchester on a Sunday night. Who knew Manchester would be amazing for a night out on a Sunday at Christmas time! The drinks were awesome (I had a zombie, rumoured to be the strongest zombie EVER... I didn't feel the strength but the Englishman assures me they are powerful (I don't doubt that, but I'll let you decide that one for yourself). It was delicious and came in a mug (total bonus, I think all drinks should be served in mugs). The venue itself is a basement, hence tiki dive bar. Nothing about the decor seeks to make you forget it is a basement. That's what makes it awesome and tacky at the same time. Nonetheless, it was pretty lively at midnight on a Sunday night with a very mixed crowd. We had a great time at the Liar's Club and I would definitely go again! read more

Came here for the first time on a Saturday night with a huge group of friends and had a great time. Had been turned away by the door people from Neighbourhood again (will be posting another review on that one!) so was nice to enter a place that wasn't so snooty. There was initially a bit of a line but it went down pretty quickly. Small bar so gets a bit crowded but laid back and fun atmosphere with a bit of a holiday vibe. The flaming Zombies are dangerous!! This Tiki style bar opened a few weeks ago but I first went in a couple of days ago after leaving The Oast House in disgust because their draught lager is Budweiser. The Liars Club is in the former Purple Pussycat and hasn't changed a massive amount in terms of decor. This place has poached the award winning bar manager from Keko Moku and he's well worth it. Most of the cocktails have a rum theme, but there's plenty on the menu for the non rum drinkers. Give it a go, it's a great night out. read more

Having been on a stag do in Chester a few weeks, a few of us not staying there got the last train back to Manchester and decided to meet up with a few people, and it happened to be here that they were dancing the night away. Having lived in Leeds for about a decade now I'm a bit behind when it comes to places to go in Manchester, so this was all new to me. On arrival at sometime probably around midnight we were greeted with a small queue, which somehow managed to last a good 20-30 minutes. We were also advised that as we were a group of guys (only 4 of us by this point mind) we wouldn't get in for a while. I don't like this rule in general, especially seeing as you can generally tell who the guys are who're gonna cause trouble, and we certainly weren't / aren't those guys! But the bouncer just let us in anyway after a short while - he must've heard us talking in the queue and realised we were normal types. Anyway, first impressions were good - I haven't been to a beach themed bar since a trip to the now deceased Baja Beach Club in Leeds a number of years ago. But after a fairly long gap since the last drinks in Chester we were flagging by this point. Fortunately for us there was rum and cocktails gallore!! Not soon after our suit jackets were off and the shirt sleeves were rolled up. I remember thinking the cocktails were pretty tasty, the selection of drinks was decent, if a bit limited (probably due to the fairly small bar). One small criticism here - the small bar and only 2/3 bar staff meant it took quite a while to get served during the busiest period of the night. However, towards the later hours we got served straight away (although this was probably a bad idea...). The music was decent and we managed to strut our funky stuff (as it felt at the time - I'm sure we were all flailing limbs by this point!) for a few hours. It must've stayed open til pretty late as well - we had a short walk to find a taxi, but it was daylight by the time we were on our way home. All in all I was fairly impressed. I wouldn't go there all that regularly if I lived in Manchester, but it's certainly worth a visit now and again if you're in a beachy kind of mood! read more

Great cocktails, tiki themed bar. Must try the sharer cocktails! We had the daquiri and pina colada - both amazing. The decor is quirky and gives a real feel that you are in a shack in the caribbean. If there are a few of you, try a chest, they start at about £50 but it works out really reasonable if there are a few of you, you get a chest of rum cocktail with a full sized bottle of prosecco inside it! Join their rum club; once a month they host an evening based on one brand of rum/ one country and have drinks, chat about the drinks and sometimes food. Often they will have guests representing the brand of rum being tasted that evening. Always a good place to head to on a night out, its open late too for the night owls! read more

The geuninely bonhomie of The Liars Club staff really made my first visit here something a little special. The slick bartender helped us pick from the mouth watering selection of cocktails, pretty much all of which are Rum based. Then he displayed great skill and flair of performance in their production and then the first sip of the Man-Go-Coco-Loco, very quickly chased by the second and third sip. It was so tasty I had to stop myself guzzling it down. It was very tasty. We had luckily arrived on the same day that The Liars Club were hosting a Rum Society. When we asked the bartender what it was he told us there was free rum and it was good rum! During a talk about the production of St Barths rum we sipped a delectable selection, including one 12-year old rum: very good stuff! Best bits: Great staff and nice decor, not too loud (at least before 21:00) Great for a semi-casual drink with a chat. Less good bits: Average toilets, the toilet paper dispenser was not working when we visited but you half expect that from a bar. --- We went at around 18:00 on a Tuesday and stayed till 21:00, taking advantages of the 2-for-1 cocktail offer that you get Sunday to Thursday before 21:00. read more

Oh great, another drab basement turned into a Tiki bar... just what Manchester needs. I have to admit, I'm not a fan of tiki bars (does it show?). It's the lazy way to set up a cocktail bar. Put up a few faux-Hawaiian decorations, some reeds/bamboo to cover the bar and sick the drinks in silly containers and you're done. Liars Club doesn't disappoint on that front - tat everywhere and treasure chests abound. The basement setting feels cramped and humid, especially at weekends - I don't smoke and I'm not claustrophobic, but I found myself biding my time before popping outside for some fresh air! I no one ever looks out of the window in a bar, but when you're in the throngs of a crowded bar, it's nice to at least fell like you're not in a dungeon. All this could maybe be forgiven when drunk, but the mammoth crowds around the bar (making cocktails takes time after all), makes getting each drink an absolute nightmare at peak times. So I'm not too sure if I dislike Liars Club, or I just dislike tiki bars in general. Or maybe Manchester's habit of turning every subterranean space into a tiki bar has given me the wrong impression of what tiki bars actually are? Either way, not a fan. Sorry LC! read more

This is one of the best cocktail bars around everything about this bar is fab from the decor the bar staff to the drinks. The bar staff are amazing at making cocktails are really friendly. It gets so busy at weekends I love going on a Sunday afternoon it's a lot more chilled and relaxed my favourite cocktail there is the zombie you should definitely try it. read more

We stumbled upon the Liars' Club late one Sunday night (don't ask) in Manchester. We had been given the recommendation from bar staff partying at Lucha Libre. I'm so glad we took them up on it because it was one of the best random Sunday nights out I've had in years. You go down stairs and you are immediately surrounded by tiki bar themed decor, complete with palm leaves on the walls, Hawaiian shirts and Zombies in mugs. The dance floor had a good atmosphere for a Sunday night, though I can imagine it'd be cramped on a busier night of the week. If you're looking for a good night out in Manchester that's a bit different, perhaps with the opportunity to do a little skank to some reggae, this is your place. Four stars. read more

Can never go wrong with a tiki bar! This one is just as fun as any other. Delicious sweet drinks that taste more like fruit juice than alcohol. Fun crowd with some people dancing in the middle, though not a true dance floor (at least not at the hour that I was there). Most drinks range between £7-9, so a little pricey. They have some large group drinks as well ranging from £15-50. I didn't try them, but looked truly amazing as they passed me by. read more

Avoid at all costs!! Shocking staff who dispose of your drink if youvtake your eye of them for a second..bear in mind this is a drink that was pricey to begin with. When we voiced our displeasure at a £7 cocktail with a sip from it had been poored away by staff, just got a look of distain. Loads of bars/clubs in town..no way I would go there again. read more

I can't really comment on the inside, as when a friend and I turned up, well-dressed and sober, we were told bluntly that we 'had to have females with us' in order to enter. When I do have a female out with me, I don't feel comfortable using her as a commodity to enter a bar. Anyway, rather than argue with the surly bouncers, we went and spent our money elsewhere. I keep reading this nonsense about a 'warm welcome' . Dont expect one !! You will be severly shocked. The doormen are absolutely arrogant and rude. I tried to go in a few nights ago and as I walked towards the doormen with my two friends (one a girl who is a regular there). One doorman said to me I've had enough to drink and pointed at me and waved me away, at the same time the other doorman said 'you cant come in with that t shirt on' . To which I replied 'So which one is it ? My T shirt or I've had too much to drink??' They both looked at me confused as if I'd just asked them what 2 + 2 is. At this point I was a bit baffled so I asked one doorman what the problem was with my T shirt to which he answered ' Its fight gear' and the other doorman ignored me as I told him I've hardly had anything to drink so how have I had too much? Suprisingly he couldn't answer so he chose to ignore me. What an absolute dissappointment gotta be one of the worst places in manchester I have been to and I didn't even get through the door. Honestly I think 1 star is way too much for this place !!! read more
