Perhaps it's an alternate universe, but the Lion Rampant was such a great experience tonight. We had read reviews and expected to have to wait for service and food for a while. We expected it could be lackluster fare. We were greeted right away, our order was taken right away, the food was fast and the coffee was fresh. We had the calamari, which was tender with a light batter and delectable seasonings. They were out of tuna, but were able to substitute blackened salmon in the cob salad. The portion was substantial, and the vegetables fresh. The salmon was good, even though it was more than just seared. All in all it was tasty food, served with a friendly attitude, in a beautiful setting.

The Lion Rampant Scottish Pub is situated right next to the waters with a wonderful view and a huge covered patio. One of the main reasons we've go back when we visit Duncan. The food is very standard pub fare, they do some good burgers, mac & cheese and etc. The burgers were seasoned well, and juicy. The food seems to be fairly consistent each time we visited. Prices are also very family friendly, with big portions. They also have interesting beers on tap. Service can sometimes be a hit and miss. As it's very casual, you go in and sit yourselves, sometimes you could wait awhile before you get your server. It also depends how busy the restaurant is, which is understandable. While the view is excellent, the inside of the restaurant can use an update. The tables and chairs can feel greasy at times, the washrooms can use an update as well, but over all the restaurant is clean and organized. If you do go to Duncan, check this place out and give it a try. We only go during the day as you can take advantage of the view the best, but it is quieter during the day. So if you like a crowded pub atmosphere, then I recommend going at night.

It was a nice little pub that also made their own craft beer. They are located in Duncan. I was told before coming here their crispy chick sandwich is the best. We ordered a 2 appetizers to share: calamari and crispy buffalo chicken. I got a virgin lemonade and the crispy chicken sandwich. The food was good given the fact that it is located in a small town. I found the lemonade a bit watered down. It was quite tasteless or maybe it had too much ice. The calamari was very tasty. It wasn't like super crispy but you can tell that the calamari was very fresh. It was not chewy. The crispy buffalo chicken was super spicy. Good thing it had ranch on the side to dilute the spiciness. The chicken wasn't very crispy. The chicken was a bit dry. The chicken sandwich was ok. It wasn't wow wow. They did flattened the chicken before breading it in panko and then deep frying it. The chicken was more on the dry end. I liked how it was served very hot. So you know it was made upon order. I wished they added more sauce to the burger. They were generous on the cheese. The chicken was crispy and not oily. I had my burger with onion rings for an extra $2. They were very generous on the onion rings. They didn't have any special sauce for the onion rings. They served with ketchup. Most places served it with chipotle mayo. I would say food was more on the lower end of 3 and service was 4 stars. I believe Craig Street is one of the two bigger restaurants in the small downtown of Duncan. Good thing is that there are plenty of free parking everywhere. It is definitely a good meeting/hangout spot with friends.

Love this pub. Bartender is amazing. Love the back var and the wood work. Will be back.read more

On top of it, they had Christmas special Biryani, it was amazing and it was authentically cooked by an Indian cook. The flavours come beautifully come together and melt in your mouth. The regular orders as house burger, butter chicken or sea food chowder are always to go for me. For Christmas the inside of the restaurant looked amazing very cozy and mesmerizing vibes. The decorations also blended with the atmosphere very well. You sit surrounded by many Christmas colours Servers are always welcoming too, if I have any issues they fix it right away and make it a pleasing stay for me everytime. Always happy to come back!

I didn't bring this up to our server because the restaurant was a full house. The kitchen was probably overwhelmed with lots of orders. Anyways the portion size was huge. The quality of the prime rib was spectacular. It was super tender but best part of all the prime rib was super flavourful. The au jus made up for the over cooked prime rib. If the prime rib was cooked to medium rare, I would have given it 5 stars. The prime rib also came with lots of veggies and a baked potato. The baked potato definitely needs more sour cream. It had a good amount of bacon in it which was nice. The Yorkshire pudding was huge. Not many restaurants serve a high quality cut of prime rib. I highly recommend coming over and trying it. It was super tasty. B ordered the southwest burger. It came with fries. I tried a few of his fries and was amazed at the crunchiness. B loved his food as well. Also in the basement there was a large party. Food took a long time to come because as mentioned before it was a full house. Our server did come over and apologized and to let us know that the large party downstairs placed their order before us. We didn't mind the wait. It was nice of her to let us know. Great atmosphere. There are lots of free parking. It is connected to Best Western hotel.

The deep fried pickles are always good and crispy (we already ate 4 of them before taking a pic), this was the first time having the Black and Blue salad with chicken (absolutely delicious and filling, there was enough for two), and the plain Jane Burger is always good and fills the craving for a good burger. Wonderful olde English atmosphere. Very good selection of beers on tap. Staff is very helpful in setting up patrons with dishes that allow for dietary restrictions (like gluten intolerance). What I particularly liked is that they were able to make fish and chips for me that was panko breaded rather than battered. I know battered fish and chips is the 'English' way, but few restaurants this side of the Atlantic get battered fish right. All too often it's too much batter, or the fish is really greasy. I didn't feel like taking a chance, so the kitchen breaded my fish and it was really nicely done. The bread pudding is also a standout. THE THORNS: None worth mentioning. THE VERDICT: Fox and Hounds is one of those rare pubs that puts as much (or more?) thought into their food as they do their beer. It's a wonderful 'little bit 'o Britain' in the quiet backwater town of Ladysmith BC Highly recommend!
