Natalia greeted us at check in. She was the awesome lady that also took our reservations by phone. Hotel, Pub and store all-in-one. Located just south of the airport and plenty to do in the area. The hotel is an English style half-timber design. The have a sign that announces the #1 Pub in Victoria, with a restaurant where I had the best pulled pork butt poutine ever. The rooms are nice and clean with amenities. The staff was cheerful. The grounds were clean and uncluttered. There were over 40 of us visiting and the staff didn't miss a beat, continuing that famous Canadian hospitality. At the Pub Mikayla and Rebecca were amazing keeping track of all of us. Great location near the airport, great food and pub, awesome accommodations. They are on my "Come-Back" radar. read more

My friends & I enjoyed this pub so much we went three days in a row! The first two nights the staff, food, & drinks were awesome! The third night (Thursday) the aforementioned trifecta had much to be desired with the exception of the wine (but how can you go wrong pouring a bottle)? The Dog BLT was awesome night 1: great crispy whole grain bread, a pile of fresh sprouts, thick smoked bacon, fresh avocado, cheese, lettuce, & tomato served with (sub) delicious yam fries. The Poutine (sub yam fries) was also amazing! The Steak Sandwich w/Au Jus sub Onion Rings was also extremely tasty! Night three the Dog BLT was mostly sprouts with only one piece of bacon & a single slice of avocado on each sandwich half:/ The Wednesday night wings were delicious as well! read more

What a great spot. We found the Inn attached and just naturally gravitated to the pub. Great local brews, nice folks, what could you ask for! OKAY, I could ask for a great fireplace that we could hangout near, but you can't have everything. We're already planning our next trip to stay at the Inn and enjoy this pub. read more

Eh bit of a disappointment really. Heard good things from the hotel staff but this place has definitely gone downhill. The service is horrible, 15 minutes to get a drink. The food itself came way too fast. I had the chicken Caesar salad, which came 4 minutes after ordering but wasn't warm. So the chicken is just precooked ahead of time. Asked for extra dressing on the salad and it came under dressed. Their bar whiskey, Seagrams, tasted watered down. Good portion size though, but would rather a bigger portion and better food. read more

Nothing our group had was any better than what you'd get from a bag in the frozen prepared food in the grocery store. Place was loud despite not being busy on a Saturday night. Food took a long time and the table's orders didn't come out together. Got only about 30% of what we ordered, had to remind 2-3 times for the rest (including drinks so short kitchen staff wasn't the only problem). We had heard good things about this 'award winning' pub so we decided to drive out on a beautiful Friday afternoon. we ordered the pulled pork nachos and they were THE worst nachos we have ever had. a pile of pork soaked in regular BBQ sauce dumped on store bought chips with a few olives and peppers sprinkled in. just awful. the service blah. it took 45 minutes to get this order and no communication from the server. terrible read more

Great Service, Great Wings, Great Atmosphere We stopped in for Wing Night and we were not disappointed. The Blue Moon wings were really really good. There was a lot of sauce and it was delicious. The honey garlic wings were excellent, also had lots of sauce, they were fresh and pipping hot. Sugar was our server and she took great care of us. Ya gotta love the Waddling Dog . . . There actually is a Basset Hound Mascot here. If you don't see him in or around the hotel lobby, ask the front desk. He may be in his outdoor run, where you can see him there. The napkin, knife/fork paper wrapper slogan says, Come Sit Stay. That's the catchiest slogan for a hotel/pub around here. Back to the food . . . OK, this is decent base pub food. If you like 1980's era pubs, this has the look as to interior and menu selections. Comfortable, friendly, and comfort pub food. Play some darts or pool before or after your meal. Even a jukebox to plug. We've eaten here plenty of times in the past couple of years and had consistently good food. Not great, but you have to remember this is not a gourmet pub so don't expect too much. I had the halibut burger and salad; Ron had the chicken souvlaki entree. Both two thumbs up. Service is always attentive. Halibut beer battered lightly, and perfectly light and fresh tasting. Bun very fresh and yeasty. Dill pickle, red onion thin slices, tomato on top, with tartar on bun. Fresh green leaf salad with beet strings, english cucumber and other veg on top. Kraft dressing on side I think though; Points deducted. Chicken Souvlaki done right, not overcooked - two skewers, tzatziki on side, garlicky though, fresh chopped Greek salad, and grilled pita and done-right rice. I wanted to write a great review because... - the Canucks finally beat the Predators as we watched the game here so it now officially holds a very found memory - the staff were really understanding when our large group opted for the pub as opposed to dining room because (egads!) there were no TVs in the latter - it's called the Waddling Dog and there are little Daschunds on the window ledges...how can you not love that?? But the food...ugh. I know pub food is pub food but this stuff was not good. I had the blackened chicken which wasn't blackened...it was just coated with cayenne pepper. The roasted potatoes were barely recognizable and were definitely not roasted but deep fried. The veg....reminded me of those super water-logged boiled veggies grandma use to feed us. Beer was good though! The Race Rocks really hit the spot. read more

Best food you can expect around the Saanichton area. Since if you wouldn't want to travel all the way to Victoria for food, waddling dog offers you great options for food. If you're hoping for a nice looking restaurant, this isn't it. It's a very low key, average looking place for a quick bite, drink or to play pool. Their pasta, nachos and quesadillas are excellent . They refuse to serve me food because my shellfish allergy is deemed "too severe" for them to ensure my safety - they honestly told me they don't have the time to clean their hands, cookware, or grills to prevent cross contamination. I have had restaurants tell me that certain items on the menu aren't an option due to my allergy, but to refuse all service?! However, my grandfather & uncle ate there not too long ago (and were actually served - fancy that), and both came down with horrible food poisoning. Not sure what my uncle ate, but my grandfather had the Beef Dip & being in his mid-80's nearly ended up hospitalized from the incident. I did, though, go for drinks on my birthday since it is rather close to where I live, but the waitress who served me alcoholic beverages for several hours was rude at best, and took an eternity to bring me the drinks then chastised me for going directly to the bar to order something she failed to deliver. More upsetting than that, however, is the fact that she began ignoring me when I asked for a glass of water while I finished up a few games of pool. I asked her 3 times as she walked past, all to no avail, but she did stop passing my table completely after the third time. I'm assuming this is because water is free, but I can't say for certain. As if this "restaurant" and "pub" could be any worse, on the night of my birthday the people at the bar erupted into screams of terror as a giant sewer rat ran out of the kitchen, through the bar, and past the pool tables. Finally, the hotel that the bar & grill is attached to has been on the news for having a bed bug infestation. The bed bugs have been spotted in the lobby of the hotel, however, the manager of the building went on record (on the 5 o'clock news, no less) explaining that he will only be treating individual hotel rooms. He has no intention of quarantining, and exterminating the bed bugs in the lobby. Since the lobby is central to every employee & guest in the hotel & the amazing ability for bed bugs to attach themselves to people and move to other areas. I can almost guarantee that bed bugs are either already in the pub & restaurant, or soon will be. read more

It took at least 15 minutes before my server came to our table. We ordered our food which took about 40 minutes to get to us. Food was ok. Had carrots with my meals and they were cut in these huge chunks, that was the only vegetable. Disappointed in that. I wouldn't recommend eating there. read more

Horrible experience here. The waitress was rude, wiped half the table, who wipes half a table in a restaurant?? She acted like we were a bother. Two of us got the wrong order. My plate had a hair on it, under the food so I had eaten half of it when I saw it. I ordered balsamic vinegar salad dressing and the waitress literally brought a bottle of balsamic vinegar and a bottle of some kind of cloudy oil!! I asked for the manager and the waitress tried to take the plate with the hair on it away. I refused and asked again. The waitress kept saying, so you want the manager? I kept saying yes, tell her to come to our table. The manager was defensive and made excuses. Will never go back and wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more
