We returned for a Sunday carvery lunch with a wider family circle. It's our first post C19 visit here.
We were met at the door by a friendly chap who wanted a contact number just in case someone reported wu flu symptoms.
He asked if we had face masks - we had - and asked we wore them queuing for carvery and we did. No big deal.
The usual turkey, ham, beef etc was on offer as was pre cooked salmon. The latter takes no time to cook and should always be cooked to order.
The turkey was too dry for my liking.
The vegetarian option looked unappetising and like it had been eaten once already. It shows they really don't want to much bother with vegetarians but need an 'option'.
I anticipate much of this food is wasted as it's not attractive even to look at and vegans would be viewed as from another planet but I hope I'm wrong. Always happy to be wrong.
The rating here reflects the price - 25 euro for two and the pretty alright service. I suspect had I opted for turkey & ham, like my wife, it would have been 24 euro for two. Portions were fine.
My roast beef was fine as was the mashed potatoes and cabbage. The roast potato seemed deep fried. I could have had carrots too.
It's like you had no cooking experience and were at home in your kitchen following a recipe book on how to roast meat and boil potatoes I'd say you'd likely get close to this so more amateur home style cooking.
The pepper sauce is water based and if not out of a packet base well it still smells and tastes like it. This is the only real bummer and honestly should be re vamped.
Staff carry your food to the table for you once you pay.
They still advertise a two course deal with coffee/tea but I was told it's not available and I could get each and pay for each separately. I suspect it's to make a few euro extra in very different, difficult times and use wu flu as the reason but I see no practical benefit it's just them trying to make a bit extra - if we were in their shoes we'd likely do likewise.
All in all it's fine - if you want haute food there's other places and if you want very similar Sunday lunch food at a far better deal drive to Ma Brady's five minutes away. read more
