It was a long, tiring day and a bowl of Ramen is the only thing I have in mind. Good thing there's a branch of Mitsuyado Sei Men in blue bay walk. Tsukemen means "dipping noodles", the art of eating ramen with a separate broth and soup to dip the noodles. The regular bowl of cheese tsukemen is a contention of a savory soup and thick sauce cheese. The taste is confusing on the the onset but I easily acquired the taste. I also ordered ebi tempura don. I have the urge that I deserve to eat noodleas and rice at the same time. The pacing of the service is slow. There's a refillable service tea but they don't serve glass of water. Although that's the case, I still enjoy exploring cheaper ramen places, and I am so annoyed right now because apparently, Hikojyu has been around for a year and a half already, yet I learned about it only 2 weeks ago! Bummer! Anyway, my boyfriend and I are so glad of this discovery! Unlike other ramen restaurants, Hikojyu's ramen choices are limited to just 2 kinds: shoyu and tonkotsu. Naturally, we ordered both! When they were served, I was a bit apprehensive because they didn't look hefty. However, on my first sip of both broths, I knew we have found the best affordable ramen shop in Marikina! They are rich in flavor, minus the umay factor that others have! Of course, given the price, the toppings were understandably limited to a few pieces of pechay, egg halves, and a chashu slice, which could still be made more tender, IMO. If you want your ramen to be spicy, use any of their authentic Japanese condiments. For our sides we tried their gyoza and potato salad. I was never a fan of gyoza save for Ippudo's deep-fried gyoza, and now, I have a second favorite! This one doesn't have the yucky mashed old veggie taste that most gyozas have! But if I had to pick just one side, I'd order their potato salad more often! It's perfectly seasoned! Wish it came in a bigger serving, though! On one corner of the restaurant is a table with magazines, both English and Japanese, plus an album filled with the owners' pictures in Japan. We met one of them, the wife, Tita Tess, and she's really nice and accommodating! Never a dull moment! Her husband is Japanese, so we know that Hikojyu's dishes are authentic! The servers were very attentive and they were even kind enough to accommodate my request for extra kikurage (wood ear mushroom) even though that option wasn't available on the menu. I didn't know that we were gonna end up in Ramen Iroha, but I went in with them anyway. I had a little bit of a problem with the menu because I don't eat pork, and all of their broth bases are pork-based. I was starting to get sad, but the waitress called the chef over, and he immediately informed me that he could make me a vegetarian ramen. I think that was rather very sweet of Chef Paul, who personally went out of the kitchen to offer me a non-pork option. It made my night, especially because their hospitality has allowed me to enjoy a really terrific and guilt-less bowl of ramen with my friends. Chef Paul also handed me the manager's card, and asked me to call ahead if I am planning to go back for more of the vegetarian ramen. Oyasumi Ramen can definitely hold its on. Located on the cozy and quiet food street of P. Guevarra in San Juan, it seems unassuming on the outside but the interiors greet you with something super cool. There's a lot of texturized concrete and dark woods with a lot of spot lighting so you get this vibe that is both cool and industrial yet warm and welcoming at the same time. It actually reminded me of what Abercrombie stores are like overseas. Now for the food! The ramen here is probably the best I've ever had, not because it's super authentic or totally different, but because it seems to make right all the things my palate seems to love about ramen. I came here with my groupmates from school on a rainy day and all of us left completely satisfied. I had the La Paz and it is probably the best soup I've ever had in my life. Extremely decadent with delicious broth and an extremely well made tamago topped with chicharron crumbles and yummy slabs of tonkatsu and shoyu and a contrast of garlic and pork blood from the traditional La Paz Batchoy made for an amazing lunch. Then I follow it with a bowl of their hiyashichuka - a cold, refreshing bowl of ramen served with slices of tamago, kani and cucumber. Best to push all of that down with either cold Japanese green tea or a tall glass of their Milo dinosaur. On days when I want a light snack, I head over to Ramen Cool and have their gyoza. Given the serving sizes, the good taste, and the restaurant's nice ambience and modern, funky interiors, it's always money well spent.

I was kinda surprised when I looked at the menu of Ramen Cool because they charge waaaaaay cheaper than your regular ramen joints in the Philippines. Not only that, I'm surprised that the quality of ramen they provide is in line with the big Japanese chains that proliferate around the metro. Apart from their pork ramen, I also fell in love with Ramen Cool's matcha drink. When I got there, I only spent around less than 300 and with other Japanese restos, that's already a great deal. They also provide great service on top of their high quality food.
