Their prices are slightly more expensive, and the range of stationary supplies is severely limited, but you're paying for the convenience of not having to travel far (if you live in Concord, anyway). The shop is cluttered and feels a little stuffy, but that's what I love about it. The woman who owns the place is also a highlight of shopping at Go Variety. She is always friendly, helpful and quick with a joke. She always has a funny story to tell, or weird piece of information to impart. With all the stock-standard variety store merchandise, Go Variety is a great place to pick up a few bits and pieces for the home or office.

Whatever may be the reason, I found myself in Efrem Kids the other day and decided to indulge in having a browse. This Austrailan-based kids clothing store claims to "sell and promote exclusive designer products to the fortunate and promote charitable work to the less fortunate." I'm not entirely sure what they mean by this, but I DO know that they have cute ass baby clothes. Who doesn't want their arm candy, ehem, 1 year-old to look like a little rockstar? With honey-I-shrunk-the-hipster wardrobe, you will have people oogling over your kid all day long. And although you'll pay for it, isn't that what you had kids for in the first place? Ok, maybe not, but I do see how it makes it more fun.

Every second Sunday of the month, Kirribilli Market shows up at Milsons Point. It's next to the…read moretrain station and under the bridge. It's free to walk around and shop. I went one time and saw mostly handmade crafts and trinkets. There was even a vendor selling visors for dogs. The memorable one for me was Lunar Crafts because her crochet work was so good. There are a handful coffee and food vendors but not much to get full. On the green there were what looked like to me people selling their closets. A lot of signs read "need everything gone" and "buy 5 for $5". They had mostly clothes but also shoes. It's fun to walk around and get views of the Anzac bridge, the Sydney harbor bridge, and the Opera House. Luna Park is not too far away. Parking - free and paid parking on the street.

I actually planned my vacations so that I could be here on the fourth Saturday of the month -- while both living in Sydney and visiting. I believe they have an extra market in December (or maybe they move the date?). It also happens to be located in one of the more picturesque spots in Sydney, great view of the Harbour Bridge! Anyway, it is conveniently located next to the Kirribilli train station and once you're done, there are tons of cafes to check out, grab a flat white and admire your wares.

There's only one problem, what to pick becuase there's so much to choose from. The dresses are all frilly and lace, the sort of thing you would expect a doll to wear, the boys clothes are straight forward. Lots of colour but don't expect to see Fred Bare or Osh Kosh here. I had initially stopped by because I was looking for an oil burner, but what I found was so much more and left with an armful. There were pillows and African fabrics, Japanese china and Moroccan lamps, candles and jewellery, handwoven baskets and hand painted frames. The textures and smells hypnotized. I could see a spot for each found gem in my place at home. I need this right? I kept telling myself. The staff is friendly and the prices are affordable. Don't forget to head upstairs for larger pieces such as dressers and stools. They take cards and cash so don't worry and prepare to spend some time.

For tourists only, just visit the Guests Services and you will receive the Visitor Passport for extra discounts in most stores. Guests services also provides charging stations, complimentary herbal tea or water and lounge areas.
