Our camping neighbor told us about this place, so we made a purposeful stop on our way up the coast. The young woman behind the counter was very helpful, and within 15-20 minutes handed us 2 large steamed lobsters. We reheated them that night in the woods and they were FANTASTIC! What a great place! Super friendly service and everything is neatly organized for selection!! Not a large space, so if there's a crowd you might get friendly :) which is actually fun! I have some great foodie conversations in those situations!! The minute you walk in, you smell the salt water of tanks in the back. No fish smell just FRESH OCEAN!!! This place is great. I made the pilgrimage from Wells today because they were open. I love that they are open 7 days a week. Both of the fish markets in Wells were closed today. I bought scallops and they were excellent. I saw that they have a great selection, and the young man working there was very helpful and friendly!! read more

Being a Maine native I love lobster and was craving a lobster roll so I stopped by The Lobster Company in Arundel and was really excited to see lobster already cooked and shelled and packaged in 1/2 lb or 1lb containers. Now I only went in for lobster when this gorgeous piece of haddock caught my eye and I left with lobster for lunch and haddock for dinner. The lobster was packed into the container and made some pretty tasty lobster rolls. The haddock was definitely the star of the day though. I baked the haddock two ways. I put seafood stuffing on Eric's piece and on mine was just crushed Ritz crackers and fresh cracked pepper and it melted like butter in your mouth. It was some of the best haddock I've had anywhere and the prices were extremely affordable (especially during tourist season) If you're in the area stop by. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and will definitely hook you up. Just be prepared because you might walk in expecting to get something and walk out with more because everything in there is beautiful and you'll have a hard time choosing just one thing After this visit I will never get fish anywhere else read more

The Lobster Co. in Arundel is a really cool place to buy fish. It's the kind of place where you can imagine a dock at the back of the building and a lot of boats coming and going. There isn't really a dock at the back of the building, but it feels like there is when you're inside. If I were a tourist bringing some friends to Maine for the first time, this is the fish store I'd go to. But as a local, it's a bit more expensive than some of the others and it's not close enough to my house to be a regular stop. But I don't review based on location so I'd give The Lobster Co. four stars. They've got everything going for them except competitive prices but actually, they're not that much more expensive that their competitors. read more

I spend the month of September in the area each year and have come to rely on the Lobster Company for all my fresh fish and especially wonderful lobster -- cooked or live. I have tried other lobster pounds and fish suppliers and always come back to Arundel. Don't understand David M. review as they don't serve dinner (or lunch). . . wrong place. I am heading back to Calif soon and I will miss my weekly lobster fix and bantering with the counter personnel -- they are cool. read more

Beware. I asked to see size of the steamers. The guy says they are nice size. The ones on top were very nice size but when I got home ( 15 miles) I found half dozen in the bottom of the bag that were the size of quahogs. Next time I want to see ALL OF THEM. I would give this place 4 stars. I've been buying fish here for over a year. Here is what I bought: arctic char, salmon, lobsters, clams, haddock, hake, some codfish, and once some halibut. All of it was fresh and very good, but more expensive than Portland Maine prices. But I don't wanna drive to Portland Maine every time I eat fish, so I can live with that. But the one time I bought swordfish here it had huge worms dancing around in it, the kind you can pull out with your fingers once the fish warms up. Man that was so freakin gross I swore never to buy fish there again. My wife the philosopher said: You're an idiot, you always take your chances when you buy swordfish. Everybody knows that, stupid! So don't buy swordfish there, but everything else is A-OK. read more

Oct 2020 - One of the best vacation memory for me and my daughter. We stopped to get Lobster, Scallops and Shrimp for dinner in our condo. The lady was very pleasant and helpful. She even gave us a tour in the back showing us all the sea creatures and how they were kept alive and fresh. We had a great dinner and all we needed was butter, garlic and a veggie. Yummy. read more

This place certainly deserves the top rating. It is a large wholesale operation that movies a LOT of lobsters and fish. So the fish is extremely fresh. They nearly always have what we're looking for. We come to Kennebunk every summer and make a trip to The Lobster Co. probably 4 times per week while we're here. The lobsters and other shellfish are competitively priced. You can get better fish prices at the grocery store but the quality is not as sure fire. I'm sure true locals know places to get better prices, but I haven't learned of any yet. We are locals who live and work nearby. We have been getting our seafood here for a long time and it's shocking the number of people who say the sellers are friendly. We find it to be a bit of a Seinfeld "fish nazi" experience. Today for example, my husband went in for some fish and asked for a small amount of ice to keep it cold while he made a few more stops on his way home. The man behind the counter said giving out ice is illegal. No apologies, no hesitation, and no smile. My husband actually giggled to himself. Funniest part is that we just got halibut from Harbor Fish in Portland and they packed it in ice without asking. Hmmm!!! Not nice counter service at all in our experience! read more

I'd give them 5 stars for great fish if the service wasn't sometimes a bit curt. I'm there almost every day for fish in the summer, but they still make me pay for ice packs if I forget to bring my own ice. So, don't take the occasional crankiness personally, and bring a cooler bag with ice because there's really no place else in the area that has the quality that these guys have. read more
