Quaint and charming, you definitely know you're staying at a farm.
They don't accept credit cards, but since this was the second place I had encountered, which didn't accept credit cards, it didn't bother me. They, too, said they would hold the room for me, and I could pay when I arrived.
Great long barn which has several dorm rooms with bunk beds and a large great room for eating and socializing. Didn't get to spend time in here. Just walked through it.
Stayed in The Farmhouse Bed-sit, which is a small private "apartment" over the main house's kitchen. According to their website, it's "... an annex of the main farmhouse with its own access, the bedsit has a single and double bed with a fully equipped kitchenette and small on suite bathroom."
It was lovely and just perfect, EXCEPT for the fact that there was no noise barrier. I could hear everything that was going on in the kitchen below. It felt like the people talking in the main house's kitchen were in the same room with me upstairs in my wide open, tiny "flat."
Originally I was booked to stay in the newly renovated cow shed, but there was a mix-up when I arrived. They believed I had booked the private room over the kitchen. And I didn't complain, because in appearance it was more intimate and not a huge space.
Anyway, this little apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen and cooking utensils, small dining room table in the same room as the double bed. The bathtub has a hose for "showering."
Really friendly family who own Penrhiw Farm, where the Long Barn Bunk House is. They make a lot of their own food, and they supply lamb to one of the best restaurants in the area, La Calabria, the Italian restaurant I reviewed earlier.
The Farm has lots of land to explore, and if you ask, they will give you a tour of the farm animals, and possibly pet them. Great vistas from various parts of the farm's property.
Directions:
Trying to find The Long Barn can be difficult. Once you're in Llandysul, follow the one-way road which takes a "V" path through the village. Turn right, going down a hill. The take a left at the bottom of the hill. Take B Road for two miles, then over a small bridge. Turn right towards Capel Dewi. Go about three miles up a big hill. You'll see two entrances to The Long Barn, Penrhiw Farm, on the right. read more
