I recently came here for a private birthday party. I love these old theaters. I am so glad this one is being used and not gutted. It can use a bit of work, but I am sure it is not an easy task to maintain these places. Bathrooms are on the second floor. In the lobby, they had set up the food and loved the old bar area. They had let the host put up a movie-style poster at the front and put his name on the marquee. It was a great event in a very cool space. read more

We came here for a Fever Candlelight Concert featuring a string quartet playing a selection of music by Hans Zimmer. The venue itself is very cool - you can see the charm and character from when this was a movie theater...the old timey feel gives it Phantom of the Opera (movie house?) vibes. Very easy to get to in downtown Houston near Market Square. Lots of street parking and paid parking options around plus walking distance to many downtown attractions, restaurants, and bars. read more

This place obviously has a mold problem that needs to get taken care of. I came in and it smelled musky and then watched a the string quartet. I'm a mouth breather so, my throat and eyes started to burn after a short time. Later my nose started to burn also. Whatever the problem is. It needs to be addressed. This is a really nice old venue that has been well maintained to be a premium set up for theaters, musical performances, and events. I'm not sure how much has been renovated, but the bar area up front was probably not in the original design, though they've made it work. The main room looks like a theater, complete with a big projection screen on the wall, but it seems better equipped for musical performances with it's flat floor, elevated stage, and no permanent seating. I figure it makes for a great venue for a music performance or dance event though. I came by with some friends for the Balvenie Raw Craft tasting, where they gave out samples of scotch and showed an episode of Raw Craft with Anthony Bourdain. It was a nice event and the venue just added to the appeal. read more

One of the benefits of being a wedding photographer is getting to photograph at some of the most beautiful venues in Houston. I remember doing a walking tour of Houston many years ago and one of the stops along the way was the Majestic Metro, dating back as one of the first movie theaters with A/C. I thought how COOL(pun intended). But then I forgot all about it, until one of my brides told me she was going to have her wedding here. Upon the initial visit to scout out the place I was in love with the venue. It's elegant, classic, and dare I say majestic. The guy who runs the place is an elderly gentleman, but has been here forever and knows every thing about the place. The lighting in here is very nice, it's a bit odd for the reception part because depending on our party size some people will be in theater chairs. It's definitely a different route when it comes to wedding venues. read more

Yes, this place was the answer to our dreams. Louis was very helpful and understanding before the wedding; everytime I called he said, "Call me anytime." The price is great because you can bring your own vendors. It included the venue, security, tables and chairs, DJ, and lights. If you want to use the projector, that is extra. The reception I assume was fabulous. We had guests tell us that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. They only issues we had were the following: He does not use e-mail. You have to either call him or drive/fax him any documents he needs. My name was misspelled on the marquee. I didn't notice until the day of the wedding, but I checked what I sent him and it was spelled correctly. :( He let us pick up our stuff the Monday after the reception. AWESOME, except he was pushing people out of the building the night of reception. When my parents came to pick up the items at 10:30 a.m., he was upset because he said that he told us 8:30 a.m., however I do not recall that and we were on our honeymoon by then. AND, there was stuff missing that my parents swore they had packed that night. A few words of advice...Yes, there are things that are going to get lost or missplaced, however if it is important to you, take those items home that night or have someone you trust take it with them. read more

I came to Majestic for a wedding reception and ended up having mixed feelings about the place. It looks like an old theater and has a customizable marquee at the entrance along with movie posters of the wedding couple inside. It offers the same services as most reception halls--slideshow projection screen, dj, dance floor and dining area. The candles were not lit upon the bride's request, although a minor detail, they did pay for the event. When we addressed the issue, they blamed it on the ac. Meh, whatever. The food was pretty bad--but that's not Majestic's fault, but the caterer's. The bathrooms were clean and had enough stalls for all the women. This would have been a better event if the caterer served edible food. Other than that, it was neat and definitely a different place to have your wedding reception. read more

We recently had our wedding reception at Majestic Metro. The entire staff is wonderful! You can bring your own vendors in, which cuts the costs down. The venue may be considered pricey but includes a exceptional DJ services, lighting, security etc. I thought the fee was well worth it! I also recommend using TJ's Catering, Afiner Event (various rentals), Touch of Elegance (linens), and Mandolas (wholesale liquor) for the event. All these vendors work seamlessly together and you do not need to worry about a thing. Louis at Majestic helps you plan an amazing event. He answers all your questions and makes you feel at home every time you stop by. They cover all the bases with you, and if you pick the right vendors, you should have a perfect event. This place has a lot of character~ Glad we picked it for our wedding. read more

Preparing for a 10-year reunion for a class of nearly 1,000 people can be overwhelming - especially when you're planning it remotely. But luckily, I found Lou and the Majestic Metro team who guided me through the entire planning process and made my life so much easier! I had not even seen the venue in person when I committed to it, but I couldn't be happier with the outcome of everything! Everyone thought it was incredibly unique and memorable. Lou coordinates the DJ which is included in the cost and also hooked me up with the DJ's photo booth rental as well - and at the last minute! Additionally, he proactively helped me secure a caterer who allowed me to bring in my own desserts and salty snacks, too. Lou also connected me to Isaac's mobile bar business, since we were having two cash bars at the event. (Another great thing - the bars are already built into the theater, so it looks great!) Attendees loved everything about that night and there's nothing that the venue could have done better for us in preparation. Thank you, thank you Lou and team! My hero! read more

The Majestic Metro - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Houston, Texas

My sister had her reception here and I helped her plan everything. The venue is very unique, but it requires a LOT of work on the planner's part. Our experience: Louis is the nicest guy ever. You can only communicate with him via telephone or fax (he doesn't use email) so it can be a little inconveniencing sometimes. But it wasn't too bad, he's very responsive and always called back. One thing I noticed a few times though is that it smells a little musty in the lobby sometimes (like someone had been smoking) - maybe the ventilation is not good? Anyhow, Louis made a number of recommendations for vendors to use, and we actually felt a little "forced" to have to use some of them. But these were some of the vendors we used that he recommended and what I thought of them: (1) Cake - Artisan Wedding Cakes -- The SWEETEST lady ever! Did a fantastic job. She was a little hard to get a hold of initially, but once we met, we had no issues. Cake was great and beautiful! She also only takes on one event per weekend so she can truly focus on that event's cake. We felt she really cared about us and making sure the cake was exactly what we wanted. We had a regular three-tiered cake and a groom's cake. The cake she makes with the berry compote is delicious! I would recommend her for any event. She's on time and very professional. (2) Alcohol - Mandola's -- Great! I recommend using them. Though we ran out of one of the non-alcoholic drinks mid-way through, but it was a seamless process to use them and they have been working with Louis for so long that it all goes smoothly. (3) Linens - Sara from Touch of Elegance -- Our worst experience. Louis raved about her so perhaps we had higher hopes about her than we should have. Don't get me wrong, she is a very sweet woman. But it seems as though she over-promises and under-delivers. Before we signed the contract with her, we met with her and told her what we wanted and she went on about everything she could do for us. She even told us one price for sashes and when we were doing the contract quoted us higher. I had to pull out my notes (luckily I had saved it after our first meeting) to show her the quotes. But again, Louis really likes using her so we moved forward with the contract. After we signed with her, everytime we'd go down to her office for our appointment, she would have 2 or 3 other appointments at the SAME time and we'd just sit around waiting for her to get through. Her pricing is also sketchy, and changes from meeting to meeting and person to person. In one of our appointments, we heard her quote one person a price for chair covers, and then after he left, quote the next person a lower price for the same chair covers. In another appointment, we saw a lady bring in a church-issued check to pay for the linens for a charity function--the amount was for what Sara had told the lady it would be, and supposedly it had taken the lady over a week to get the check issued from the church. When the lady was dropping it off, Sara apologized and said that she had mistakenly given her the wrong amount and it was actually about $40 more than what she said, and that the lady could either pay her cash or write another check (the lady had neither that much cash on her nor her checkbook). Eventually, Sara took the $30 that the lady had in her purse and called it a day. I thought it was extremely unprofessional to first make the mistake of telling the wrong amount, and then to force her to pay out of her own pocket with whatever she had. It was Sara's mistake to begin with and she had over a week to call the lady back and have them issue another check, but she did no such thing and instead waited till the lady was in the office with the check 2 days before the event and telling the lady that unless they paid, she wouldn't do the event. NOT COOL. Anyhow, when it came time for my sister's wedding, Sara all of the sudden said it was going to cost extra for her to do the few extra things she had told us she would do when we first met with her. It all just seemed really unprofessional to me. My sister was too nice to say anything to Louis though and didn't want Sara to mess up the linens so let it go. Anyhow, I would advise against not using this person. She seems to be nice the way she talks, but is very unprofessional and doesn't own up to her mistakes. She is the reason I am taking off a star. (4) DJ -- The DJ that comes with the venue is great. We gave him a CD of the music (call him in advance and find out what format he needs the songs in), but he did a good job with lighting and keeping the dance floor full. One of my favorite things about the venue is that they put the bride and groom's name on the marquis and you can put movie posters in the poster boxes inside and outside (there are 2 outside and 2 inside). All in all though, it was a great reception and we all had a great time! read more

When I 1st saw the venue I immediately fell in love with the historic value & beautiful interior of the site. I was impressed w/ the lighting & the music part during the venue tour. Linda let us know that if we chose to add on the cost of her DJ, we could then & only then use the venue's built in speakers and equipment. After she showed us a preview of the lights & music during the tour, we couldn't imagine bringing in our own DJ and having all his equipment taking up space where the ceremony and reception would take place. Two weeks before the wedding the DJ made his first contact with us. We filled out his 2 forms & included all the details for the songs we wanted played during the ceremony and reception. We also used the majestic metro's website to select songs we wanted played from their playlist per his request and provided him with a flashdrive with all songs that were important to us. The day of the wedding the ceremony guest seating begins, the DJ plays the song we had selected for dinner time while people are being seated for the ceremony. This was erroneous because the song was dinner specific, so it did not make sense. The mother, groom, deadno, walk down the aisle but the songs we selected were not played. It is my turn to walk down the aisle & he plays the dinner song again, I freeze in embarrassment when he abruptly cuts the music off when a guest tells him it is the wrong song. All guests stare at me as I wait for the right song to start playing-the DJ is scrambling through his papers complaining to a guest that he had too many papers. The DJ asked my guest to remind him what the song that should be playing that very moment. There is awkward silence as everyone waits. Remember that we had filled out the venue's forms beforehand with all the key songs &even provided a flash drive w/ labeled music. The ceremony begins & when it is time to light the unity candle, the song we chose for that is not played.silence. The ceremony ends & the song he was supposed to play as we exit the stage never plays...silence. The DJ was supposed to announce us as a couple, he never does. The DJ was to dedicate two different songs to two different guests of honor but only ever dedicated one song to one of the guests leaving the other guest feeling left out. Errors like this continued on for the rest of the night. The DJ is supposed to lead the events throughout the reception ensuring a smooth fun night, yet he remained silent never announcing the key moments. Because he didn't announce those key moments most guests missed the cake cutting. He made the event feel disorganized &awkward after we spent a lot of money ensuring we had the best of everything. I felt that the DJ ruined so many special moments throughout the night for us. I feel really disappointed in the venue since that was their DJ. When I let Linda know after the wedding, there was no real sense of regret on her part. Her response was that she had always received good comments on her DJs which felt like she was invalidating our experience. She even questioned why I had tipped her employees if the DJ had been so bad, my response was that we don't stiff people &the tips were meant for the other two individuals working the event. If I were to redo the wedding, I would choose a newer venue with employees and managers who could dedicate themselves to a successful event. With as much money that goes into paying for a wedding you really need to choose a venue & people that you can trust. read more

Okay, I am FINALLY getting the chance to write about how AMAZING our experience at The Majestic Metro was for our wedding. Linda Warwick was an absolute delight to work with from the very beginning of planning to rent the space. Her energy and infectious enthusiasm made us smile every time. And during the celebration, Jason made everything run so smoothly with such a calm and assuring demeanor. The place is STUNNING and very affordable. So please take this high praise as genuine. And I'd be remiss not to thank Michael and his team at Master Chef Catering for the food that people STILL rave about to this day. All this made our day absolutely perfect! read more

The venue is nice and when you visit , the owner portrays a very nice attitude BUT once you put your money down to reserve the venue things CHANGE. There are so many restrictions, you can't pick your own DJ....you can't play your own music....you can't have your own bartender and if you try to, your vender will quit do to all the red tape. The venue had dead roaches and it needed a thorough cleaning. Even after speaking with the owner she made excuses. Their redesign does not allow good flow for a wedding when walking down the aisle. In addition, the silver railings everywhere is an eye sore. Working with Jason was a pleasure but the owner, Linda, is a nightmare. Houston has too many other venues offering flexibility and less stress. I suggest you take your money elsewhere. read more

The majestic was great, but DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT take recommendations for vendors from lewis. I am still waiting to get my video 8 months after our wedding because I used the vendor- Complete Music and Video that Lewis recommended. And do not let Lewis make you think it will be cheaper than a hotel, it was MORE expensive in the end with all the vendors we had to get there and do ourselves. read more

I looked at Majestic Metro for an event and I am truly surprised anyone would book this venue. The elderly gentleman referred to in another review is horrendously rude. The staff is not at all friendly or accommodating. As soon as you set foot inside the venue, it smells like smoke because the employees actually smoke in the building. I don't recommend people or places very often, but this review is a solid 5 Star. Our company held a Casino Night in this beautiful, old theatre, built in 1926. Jason W. was a fountain of guidance and perfect counsel. Jared jumped on marquees, outdoor and indoor "Playing Now" posters, and we could not have made a better choice anywhere, for any price. Our guests are all oilfield industry personnel from all across the U.S. and internationally. Throughout the entire night, guests marveled at the transformation from hot, humid city streets to walking into the door of a high class casino deluxe! Many had never been to the venue nor knew its history. It was simply magic once stepping through the doors. I arrived alone, with hundreds of pounds of equipment and supplies and every box was unloaded by Jason and other Majestic Metro personnel. Houston boasts a lot of venues, but our company (and most of our guests' companies) will never go anywhere else after last night's event. It was like stepping back into time when elegance was expected. Thank you Linda, Jason, Jared and all for helping us make our inaugural Casino Night an event no one will forget. Everyone had a blast. I have been wanting a vintage venue for my wedding, but I would not do it here. Once I emailed them for more information, they asked me to call them. After I called them, I believe Louis picked up the phone and was not helpful at all. He was rude and short, and not at all flexible. He did not even bother to give me their schedule or even a range of time I could come in. And when I suggested a time, he was short and would say no. He could have at least been friendly. If I will have to go through this many hoops to simply get an appointment, I know this place is not meant to be. read more

My daughter had a wedding at the Majestic Metro this October. We were very happy with this venue. Jason was very accessible throughout the entire process. We communicated often and he was always there to talk. He handled every question with patience and was very willing to help in every way he could. He was accommodating to all of our requests and helped make sure every detail was attended to and that the day was smooth and stress free for everyone involved. The venue was absolutely beautiful and could stand alone without any additional decorations. The ornate designs of the theater made decorating easy and still appear 'majestic'. Everyone commented on the 'Old Hollywood' feel of the building. The atmosphere of the place was completely magical. The acoustics and lighting were beautiful and made for a stunning and unforgettable event. While the parking at the Majestic Metro was limited, there is a public parking lot across the street available for rental. Overall, we could not have been happier with our choice to use the Majestic Metro for this memorable occasion. read more
