This place is solidly and inarguably AMAZING. It is AMAZING. I can't even believe there are so few reviews. I would've thought the cat would be completely out of the bag on this place. Their selection is great and super high quality. They've been in business over 70 years, they are incredibly knowledgeable and absolutely fun. I went in with a friend who's visiting from out of town (a man). He got a really nice cowboy hat and they shaped it to the style he chose. This is where I learned of the different style of creases and bends in a cowboy hat and what the different styles are called. They took it in the back and did that while we waited. My friend (the man) also bought another hat and they really took their time, explained everything about all the hats and made sure he got the very best one for him. If I remember correctly they also resized and cleaned his white Stetson. I was wearing a felt hat that had some creases in it from when I was moving and it got squashed a little. They took it in the back and tried to steam out the creases which I greatly appreciated. They didn't even charge me. I just wanted to mention, they have all kinds of hats, not just western gear. I'm particularly referring to their gorgeous and very very reasonably priced top hats (in various hights). This is definitely the place you want to go for a hat, especially if you're a man. I wish they sold ladies' hats too (but there are the top hats.) read more

With a birthday coming up and having been told I need to be more careful in the sun now that I'm all grey, we stopped in during a Thanksgiving visit to Albuquerque. First this is a really interesting store. I've never seen so many hats! If you can't find a hat here then you can't find a hat! I've never been a hat guy and these gentlemen didn't try to sell me. They let the hat sell itself. My wife bought me a Stetson Stratoliner with a silver and turquoise band for my birthday. A few adjustments and the fit is perfect. I can't recommend The Man's Hat Shop and these guys more highly. read more

Fantastic!! They actually make some hats here, as well have many varieties, and hard to find sizes such as XXL and 7 3/4 -8. This place is a blast from the past, with customer service that brings you back to a time when things were made locally and products were stood behind. This will be where I will take visiting friends looking for an object to shelter them from the intense NM sun, and or a souvenir. A staff on hand makes rattlesnake cowboy hats -for your rancher or rocker that has everything. They have the rattle attached to the brim and may be used to instill fear into the hearts of men. Or wig people out walking around the city. Though to activate the rattle you may have to shake as if you suffered from Parkinsons. The tooling and construction is of expert quality. We had it shipped to NY and even resized and shaped. This is a complete custom hat shop. The staff is extremely knowledgeable on all their merchandise and will definitely give you blunt, honest opinions on what works and what doesn't. For example, I was trying on this cowboy hat with a huge crown when Stuart, one of the owners, comes up to me: Stuart: So what you do think? Me: I'm not so sure, it's kinda big. What do you think? Stuart: Listen son, you wanna be attracting the ladies, not scaring them off. Me: Noted. Thanks to the fantastic help of Stuart, I was able to get past all my preconceived stereotypes and intimidation and find a few hats I really felt comfortable in and managed not to break the bank. The Men at Man's Hat Shop are a trip. Two dudes just hanging out, surrounded by thousands of hats. I forget their names, of course, but they make the "shopping experience" a ton of fun. It probably helped that I went in with my cute sister. I was looking for a cowboy hat to protect my lily-white skin from the harsh New Mexican sun, and this place, just downtown on Central, looked too quaint and old-town USA to be true. Well, it's as it seems. A total throwback. These guys have the entire floor filled with different kinds of cowboy hats, and the wall festooned with bowlers, fedoras, porkpies, and funny old man golf hats, to name a few. A haven for hipsters and cowboys alike. While we were in there shopping, what looked like a ska band came in and they all bought groovy little porkpie hats. The hat guys advised me on style, size, and then shaped my modest cowboy hat for me (they also have a huge range in prices, from budget to what-the- hell level), and added a rodeo strap as well. The strap cost almost as much as the hat but hey, it's practical. Other services they offer are cleaning and re-shaping. I love these guys. I'll be back when I can afford another hat. One of the Hat Men even gave me the name of a manicurist when he heard me telling my sis I needed a manicure. How's that for service? read more

I was curious one day to check out their stock and when I walked in, I immediately took myself for a very fun adventure looking at every type of hat you could imagine. I purchased my first ball cap from them and I've loved it. I also went back a second time for another ball cap of the same brand and they had it in stock.
