This is one of my annual stops. This year I bought some stuff to make a wreath, a few specialty beads, a boa to glue on an umbrella I also bought here, and some headbands. This place is so much fun! Last year I bought a door sign that reads, "where you beignet?" as well as NFL and NBA beads, 4th of July beads, and all kinds of stuff I ended up having to ship back to Indiana! Okay, this past carnival season I went to a lot of these warehouse stores to see what was available, and Mardi Gras Spot probably is my favorite, hands down, for setting you up for all of your Mardi Gras needs. (And yes, I know, I'm really using the word "needs" loosely there, but let's be real: it's a way of life.) If you're in a Krewe, you can get many of your plush/bulk throws here if you're looking to add on to whatever your Krewe may already have set up (if anything) and they have a discount for you. You can also find purses, cups, coconuts, etc. here (and glitter) to help you with personalized throws. If you are not in a Krewe, well my goodness you can get just about everything you ever wanted to help celebrate the season. Apparel -- shirts, socks, hats, jewelry, body glitter, etc. Decorations for your home, stylized individual beads, go-cups, whatever. I have been coming here for years, sometimes weekly. This local family owned business started out for Mardi Gras throws, supplying parade riders with beads and plush throws- but has evolved into one of my favorite shopping experiences. Not only can you find a variety of throws, there are also children's toys and games, kids books, and adorable pajamas and smocked clothing for babies and children in New Orleans themes. There are costuming elements, like Mardi Gras shirts, dresses, coats, wigs, earrings, face glitter, rhinestone decals, and boas. I love their "wig wall" where you can find a variety of affordable wigs in all colors and lengths. if you're a crafter, this place is heaven. There are rhinestone decals, the aforementioned boas, second line umbrellas, and the cheapest fine glitter anywhere in the city available in any color imaginable. Ok this place is SO COOL. It's literally the Mardi Gras issue of Oriental Trading, IN PERSON, and somehow better because they have more than just small stuff. All the clothes (adult down to infant), toys, accessories, beads, books, etc that you could ever think you might want for Mardi Gras! And apparently they also do seasonal stuff for each season (so right now they also have a Valentine's Day section and St Patty's day section!) Prices are also pretty cheap compared to online stores and other local businesses! With parades cancelled, many of us have decided that the only response is to turn our houses into floats. MG Spot (aka Plush Appeal) has beaucoup materials for making your house look MGtastic. I've ordered some petal paper and I'm waiting for that to come in. But I've also purchased a variety of very important items, like purple, green and gold fringe, PGG lights, and glass beads and MG decor. Y'know the essentials. Staff was super sweet and helpful. And there several parking spots out front so that's easy. At the moment, the streets are all torn up so it's a little like off-roading to get to the them. But totally worth it. Pandemic notes: they had hand sanitizer and wipes AND disposable masks by the front door. All staff was masked and of course, customers are required to wear masks too. read more

Finally made my way over here for Mardi Gras Decor. Was looking for pieces I could add to my arsenal of decorations and while I ended up spending more than I budgeted, my investment was not exactly what I was hoping for. Sure there were dozens of options for string lights, garland and wall hangings, the majority of those items were plastic, cheap and made in China. Was hoping for more items like Mardi Gras linens, hand towels, tablecloths or wall hangings made of wood, glass etc. I ended up with some lights, garland and a flag, but will need to continue my search. This place has so much fun inside of it. I feel like a moron for not going here sooner. I thought that they only had plushy things, but BOY was I wrong. From Mardi Gras and party supplies of ALL kinds, beads, silly hats and masks, throws, decorations, the most glitter I have ever seen in one place anywhere, gifts, little purses and, of course, plush toys of many varieties can be found here and at very reasonable prices. Good for more than just Mardi Gras, there were things for St. Patrick's Day, wedding supplies, gay pride themed accessories, bachelorette parties, any sort of costumed or over the top party needs. It's no secret, I like to have weird kooky stuff at our Yelp parties, and Plush Appeal fits the bill. I can't say I ever truly know what I'm going to find there, and sometimes I leave empty-handed, but it's so close to my house that I don't feel like it was a waste of time. When you walk in, to the right is party decorations and beads. Some of the decorations are broken down by theme, i.e. cinco de mayo, st. patrick's day, bachelor/bachelorette parties and color, i.e. blue, red, rainbow. They also have a bunch of different fun beads without having to go all the way out to Kenna' though the selection isn't as extensive. To the left, you've got kooky sunglasses, hats, masks, boas, a variety of purses for Muse decorating, glowing/flashing hoos-its and whats-its galore, a handful of costumes and more. There is also a higher end little gift section and, I believe, a spot where you can custom order some goods, that I've yet to take advantage of. I've used overgrown mustaches to tie onto sashes for male pageantry; I've accumulated a plethora of silly sunglasses, boas, masks, and goofy hats for our photo backdrop; and I've eyed a few really odd items that I'm sure would be useful...some day. It's a fun store to check out, and the prices are just right IMO. I'd suggest snapping a photo of some of the things that you might not need now, but could potentially use at a later date and time. read more

This place gets four stars for saving me in a pinch on several occasions! They have tons of stuff -- from costume supplies to every kind of throw imaginable! Plus they offer generous discounts to krewe members and are down the street from me. They also carry the Czech glass beads that were thrown from floats right up until the 70's when Chinese made plastic beads entered the market, allowing krewes to save money while increasing the number of throws exponentially.
