A fun place for families. Food was delicious. My husband had the Steak & Fries I had the caramelized onion Burger, which I believe the cook brought right out to us. The fries were nice and hot. The steak was cooked perfectly my burger could have been cooked a bit longer to prevent so much of the meat juices from dripping. The waitstaff could be more inviting when you come into the restaurant. The first attempt to eat here the waitress apologized and said it would be a 40 minute wait as a trove of people arrived between 5 - 5:30 pm when we arrived. We told her we'd come back another time. Two days later we arrived around 4:30 ish, and the young lady from way behind the counter, without saying hello or welcome, pointed us to a table. Our assigned waitress was pleasant but we had to flag her down twice for more beverages, it wasn't really busy yet and three wait staff were talking amongst each other. In any case if you don't mind this type behavior this place will suit you, but if you're a large group it may be somewhat challenging to be waited on with a professional attitude. We stayed a week in lovely Brighton and the restaurant was across the street but we didn't bother trying this place for a third time.

It's also impeccably clean and the lighting is perfect for sitting down and reading my Kindle. That's what I was thinking... as I was about to have lunch with Sophie. This place is actually MASSIVE. I like plenty of space to breathe. I had plenty. Don't make the mistake of walking past with the assumption that you will be cramped up against another table. Before I visited, I had assumed that No 32 was nothing more than a middle-class cocktail bar that served a few nibbles. I was almost entirely wrong. I was having lunch with Sophie, a few tables away there were some 40 somethings having some kind of Christmas catch up across the room there was a woman sitting alone doing some work on her laptop. It's peaceful, I like it. The food is also A LOT better than I had expected it to be. I don't think No 32 is particularly well known for its food, but I'd highly recommend eating here if you're looking for a reasonable mid-priced lunch in the middle of town. Sophie and I shared a Classic Burger and Chicken and Chorizo Burger, both with fries. These were priced at £12 ish each. As far as Classic Beef burgers go, this was a 7/10. It's not Burger Bros tasty but it probably makes it into my top 5 favourite burgers in Brighton. The Chicken and Chorizo burger is a new favourite of mine. I'm going for 9/10. Could have done with a little bit more chorizo-ey sauce and a tad more moisture but it was really great. I'd go as far as saying this is in my top 3 for chicken burgers in Brighton. The fries were crispy AND soft. I have no idea how they have achieved this. It was a lovely lunch. I will go back, I will breathe easy, I will eat the chicken burger and I will enjoy reading.

There is a gorgeous little terrace balcony, with limited seating, but a real treat if there is room for you. I opted for the classic burger which had THE best bacon in it and was served on a really good bun - very important for a good burger! This was served with some skin on skinny fries which I really liked, although everyone in my group added salt, I found them to be just right. I also had the cherry milkshake which was really thick and had a super cherry taste - I just wish it was bigger as it was delicious!

If only we'd crossed paths sooner... oh the fun we could have had! It wasn't until I was sitting inside Rock Ola, looking out the window at the passers by, that I realised I had walked right by the place on my way to and from work every day and barely noticed it for a year and a half. This shocked me because, once inside, Rock Ola is quite unforgettable. Styled as your typical cool American diner, Rock Ola is jam packed with old cheesy trinkets, bright wallhangings and a brilliant old jukebox that sits in the corner just waiting to be played with. The decor is fantastic! It's just cheesy enough to be fun but not make you feel as if you're sitting in a Disneyland restaurant. The staff are dressed in little aprons and are very pleasant indeed. But most importantly, the food. The burgers in here are to die for. They're massive, juicy and stacked with lots of little goodies, like onion rings, bacon, cheese and much more. The menu is wonderful - with additions such as the 'Hypocrite burger' which has both a meat and veggie pattie inside, and a host of vegan options which no doubt go down very well with many. They also serve the tastiest milkshakes, which are thick and creamy and taste and good as they are bad for you! They also have a selection of cakes and puddings but, to be honest, after a burger and a milkshake it's a wonder I even got out the door! Maybe next time though. You may have walked past this place a few times. You may never have heard of it before, but for goodness sake - no matter how busy you are - get down there this weekend and feast on a burger!! It'll be the best decision you ever made...

However, despite the location and lack of advertising, the cafe was really busy with couples, families and discernable regulars. It's a 50s themed American diner - the floats and milkshakes on the menu match the retro pop culture on the walls and free playable jukebox. My friend ordered a piece of carrot cake - too large to finish - for £1.95 and found it delightful. I had the soup of the day - a creamy winter vegetable served with buttery toast - for £3.95. Oh, wintery goodness. Several meals are available for under £5: wraps, sandwiches, omelettes, jacket potatoes and full breakfasts. A separate vegan menu lists meat-free temptations for apologetically (in print) higher prices. The friendly service, upbeat tunes and delicious menu options make this cafe one of my new faves.
