The best restaurant in Brighton. Our waiter Henrick was outstanding. Excellent service and the best food. You have to try the Bouillabaisse soup. It's the best ever. The steaks are wonderful too. I had the rump steak. Excellent. 5 star establishment.

The House is traditional high-quality British dining, with a Mediterranean twist thrown in. While not necessarily the most interesting meal, nor the most value-for-money dining experience, the location is absolutely exceptional, and well worth the price in the summer months. I should start by saying that I have never been inside The House itself. It simply hasn't appealed to me: some friends complain it is drafty, others that it is a little cramped... Indeed, from the outside I cannot imagine sitting inside is truly worth it. While the food is cooked to a high standard, and is clearly made with love and attention, I doubt it is worth an an awkward seating arrangement that looks like it would be thus from the outside! No, the true beauty of this restaurant is in its summer outdoor seating. Despite The House itself being tucked into East Street's furthest corner, they have snagged the centre of the square as their outdoor space, and it is a truly magnificent space to relax. Their wine selection is varied enough to merit it as a drinking spot alone! When the spring rains cease, and the musicians come out to sing and play, and the leaves on the big tree in the centre of the square dapple the light... There are always crowds of people streaming through, and yet you don't feel hassled or jostled at all. This is my true, beating heart of Brighton in the summer, and I cannot recommend it enough. Apart from the exquisite outdoor arrangement, there really isn't much to say. The food certainly isn't five-star, but is good enough not to ruin the outdoor experience, same goes for the drinks and service. Nonetheless, completely and utterly unmissable!

The House is such a great restaurant tucked away in a corner of the South Laines. The menu is diverse and reasonably priced. My husband ordered this Chicken Madeira dish with potatoes and I had the House Bouillabaisse and we were not disappointed! Our dishes were full of flavour and warmth. Service also was amazing and courteous. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed which we appreciated on a Friday night in Brighton. We've had a Sunday roast here before and were absolutely impressed with the quality and quantity of food! Will definitely come back to The House again soon.

The House is situated in the original Lanes of Brighton, its can be found tucked away behind East Street square with all the outside seating through out summer, (they also have a large portion of the seating). Through out the winter diners sit in an old converted house which still feels very much like your in a living room, but has a very modern minimal decor. Its a very dimly lite and romantic venue so would be great for dates...but maybe not a first date as each room only seats 10ish people so the awkward silences could be made unbearably obvious. They do deals through out the winter so its always worth checking the boards, they had a 'eat free if its your birthday' deal which me and my sister enjoyed a last year.

Estia is everything a great Greek (Cypriot) restaurant should be - located in a light and airy building, run by a cheerful family, authentic Greek dishes with a modern twist, the best ingredients and organic, free-range meats. It can be a family affair during the day but transforms itself to a romantic location in the evening. There's a wide selection of meze, salads and vegetarian dishes. The mezes start at just £12.95 per person. We ordered the Meat meze which includes olives, dips, warm pitta bread, grilled halloumi cheese, kefdedakia, dolmades, Cyprus village salad, fried potatoes & choice of moussaka, stiado, pork souviake or sheftalia. It was so good that I'm salivating just thinking about it. I have it on good authority that the swordfish skewers and Karpasia Moussaka are key mains here so I'm already planning my second visit.

The food was delicious- we ordered the seafood mezze sharer, which involved dips and pitta with olives, followed by mussels, calamari, giant king prawns and sword fish (especially good!) and Mediterranean veg. We substituted fried haloumi for dolmades and they were literally the best I've ever eaten! The menu is extensive, but the mezze sharers (meat, veggie or seafood) are definitely the easiest and most economical way (£12.95-£14.95 pp) to sample the menu, if there are a few of you. The service is friendly- but be warned, the wait for food can be a bit long if the restaurant is busy- the place is family run, which is lovely, but they could do with a few extra members of staff! The only disappointment was the decor. The space is not overly inviting or cosy. Neither is it traditional in any way. There is a distinctly clinical feeling about the place, probably because it is quite colourless- we were hoping for a more traditional, vibrant atmosphere. However, there is no denying that the food is fantastic- I will definitely go again...

The starter is the highlight here - a huge plate of mezze, with plenty of houmous, tabbouleh, tzatsiki, olives, pitta and unusual pastries. I believe this can also be ordered separately as a mixed starter if you're not getting the set menu. The mains are fairly basic but very tasty - with a choice of grills and casserole type dishes. A dessert (I had ice cream, but there were other choices I can't remember now), and authentic coffee are also included. The staff are very friendly and happy to have a chat with you about anything and everything.

For just £1.80 I picked up a freshly made that day ball of fluffy rice cooked in breadcrumbs with a mozzarella and spinach centre that was about the size of both my fists together (without thumbs). Bringing it over to me, he offered a knife and fork, but said he personally like to "snatch it up in a napkin", With my cutlery poised, I suddenly deviated and went down the napkin route, which proved an incredibly satisfying, clean and spillage free way of munching through my meal... Random details aside, there was a host of food on offer here, which I fully intend to explore further down the line, with iconic Mediterranean dishes like lasagne sitting alongside equally intriguing unknown delights. Its a little small inside, so I was pleased to get a seat out of the cold. But for something to bring home with you, or for a sit down and nibble outside, this place is unparalleled.

Having tasted the food though, this is perhaps the best of the local lunchtime eateries. The menu is based on traditional Sicilian dishes, and delivers superbly on the famous Italian brand. You'll also find that it's a lot cheaper than other deli's, certainly those further in to town. My baguette came in at £2.90, very reasonable. Space is a bit limited, but there is seating inside and out (weather permitting). Perhaps the strongest reason for going here would be the delightfully friendly owner, I can't explain just how sweet he was.

So we ended up here on a whim (kind of) but I'm so glad we did. For lunch I got the hake fillet with clams, new potatoes, and green beans - the most popular dish of the day, according to our waitress - and I loved it! It was my first time trying hake and let me just say that Santiago left a great first impression. The fish was cooked perfectly - I especially appreciated how they didn't put too much sauce which I find is unfortunately pretty common. The clams were wonderful too - normally I'm not a fan of clams, but for some these ones were so good I think I might give them another try in the future. I liked the potatoes too, but the green beans were a bit too hard (undercooked?) for my liking. The minus one star is partially because I was a bit disappointed in the green beans, but also because the service in the beginning wasn't the best. We were left standing by the entrance for a really long time before being acknowledged. I think their system might be to only acknowledge you when there's a table ready? Not a fan of that, but not so much so as to stop me from coming here if I ever visit Brighton again.
