Took my nieces and nephews to Melting Point and it was a beautiful experience for everyone. I took glass blowing classes in college so I know how hard it is, so I wasn't sure how young kids (5-11 years old) would be able to do it. But Austin took control of the process and made it fun and safe for everyone. Lived in Sedona nearly 5 years, and just this past weekend we discovered an incredible, unique activity; glassblowing. For anominal fee, we were given the basic safety instructions, and a step by step explaination of the procedures. Four of us in all, was our group, and one picked a 3-D looking paperweight, his wife chose a candy dish, and my wife and I picked drinking glasses. The two young owner/instructors were hands on, and we all felt very good at helping us wide eyed rookies into confident 'artists'. The proximity to the two large furnaces, and working our glass projects in and out of the furnace was exhilarting. One of the best activities I've experienced since living here. Took the beginners class for glass blowing (in which the instructor only did the blowing thank goodness!) and it was a great time. I did the work of keeping the melted glass moving, coloring, and shaping (except for the final touches to actually make it look good). Chris was a great guide and artist. I made a Sucky Bowl (based on how it's made, i.e., sucking the air back out of the bubble to make the bowl) as opposed to how it turned out. :) I loved it. This class was terrific, and my childhood dream came true. Jordan explained the whole process plus guided and assisted us through our Glass Flower production. He gave us the tools needed to make our one-of-a-kind glass flower. When we finished, the glass flower was still too hot to be taken home, so please bear in mind that you can pick up your creation the next day. Overall, Jordan was fun, and everything was easy to understand. The store was full of glass art, and it was hard not to buy anything. There were glass hummingbirds, pumpkins, bowls, pendants, necklaces, and countless more unique pieces. We revisited The Melting Point yesterday. New this time is a huge and entrancing kinetic sculpture affixed to the building over the entrance. We parked in front and I just stood there and watched it for a while before I could tear myself away and go into the store. The woman working there told me it had taken two or three years to construct. It is a joy to watch. Inside and for sale were other, much smaller kinetic sculptures made entirely of glass. One had a hand crank that made the sculpture move and the marbles roll. Very cool. read more

I luv the Melting Pot because it allows visitors to dive right into the art side of Sedona and get in it. Not as an observer and admirer of art but as an artist. Choose a piece from bowls, glasses and such and jump right in. To the right is the glass blowing area where you will be taught by very talented Sedona artist guiding every step. I found this on Groupon when searching for a weekend outing with my daughter. We both love to watch glass blowing so this was right up our alley. I made the appointment on a Friday night for a Saturday morning. They were very accommodating and helpful. My daughter is 10 and I wasn't sure if she'd be able to get the full effect of handling the equipment. She did though. And I wasn't sure if she'd need help so I didn't schedule time for myself. After the experience I can safely say that the grownups can fully participate as well as the kids. Everyone has their own time. It was a great experience for us. I can't remember the guys who did the demo and instructions but they were FANTASTIC!!! I was not expecting to laugh but they put on a show! They are so kid friendly - I was pleasantly surprised!!!
