STAY AWAY! After setting up my first appointment a month in advance, they called me two days before my appointment and left a voice message informing me they had not scheduled enough time for me. I didn't see their voice message, and showed up at my appointment. Not only was there no apology, I was instantly greeted with extreme attitude, as if it was my fault they screwed up their scheduling (maybe time to re-take that math class to calculate time needed for an appointment?). Nobody deserves to be treated so rudely, let alone a customer. Reading other reviews, you'll see I'm far from alone in experiencing their "attitude." Horrible experience. My son showed the stylist(V) a picture of the haircut he would like and asked for just a bit taken off. The stylist then proceeded to take off a large amount of hair and when he asked her to even it out since she went so short on top she let out a huge sigh. When I complained, I was told that the look in the picture wasn't achievable. It was a picture of my son less than a year ago, so the haircut was 100% doable. While they did not make me pay, I was informed that the haircut was only $35 since he was a student, so maybe I should consider that. This was the second time this has happened. Absolutely love this place. I'm very picky who does my hair but the staff here really knows what they are doing. Always pleased with Ryan's work. It's not your typical cookie cutter salon, it's very upscale Art Deco and the staff is always friendly. I have been several times now with Covid and they take it very serious. They spray their stations down after each client, your asked to wash your hands upon entering and your temp is also taken while entering. You're best to call ahead an make an appointment because they are always busy. Don't try to get in the day you call. For $35 you get cut, style, wash, and product in hair. Very friendly and professional hairdresser who seemed to know exactly what I needed as far as styling goes. This is a story from the olden days, back when I used to get haircuts. This is the sort of salon where the guys go to have a pretty young lady massage their head and cut their hair. I think they'll wax your back as well. I had the same barber for the first 20 years of my life and then I went away for a year, got a new haircut and came back. My old barber refused to cut my hair the way I wanted it, so I went looking elsewhere. I stumbled into the Men's Room, and Glen, the owner, said that everyone else was booked, but he could take me as a walk-in if that was OK. It was probably the best haircut of my life, and because of that (and my trust issues involving scissors), I always went back to Glen while I lived in Burlington. Yes, I was probably the only straight man who got his hair cut there regularly and actually booked appointments specifically with Glen, and there were usually as many female customers in the place as male on the days when he was working, even though it is called the Men's Room, but I don't care. He is a damn fine...um, hair guy. The shop is always clean, smells nice and everyone is very friendly. They keep the front half of the salon as gallery space for local artists and change up the art frequently. Side Note: I have the funniest memory of this place from before it opened. The woman who owns the two other stores in the building was all flustered because all she knew was that it was called the Men's Room and there were pictures of male models (focused on the haircuts of course) in the window. She was afraid it would attract the wrong (gay) sort of crowd to the building. It was one of those "there goes the neighborhood" moments. read more

I always get my hair cut here. They're really friendly and I've always been really happy with my cut. They also do student discounts. What more do you want? Interestingly there's also an art exhibit on the walls that changes on a regular basis, so it's worth stopping by even if you don't need your hair cut. read more

Great cuts but too much to put up with to get it. Appointments needed but the phone's not answered (expect voicemail and phone tag). Also, attitude's an issue; during a busy work time I had to reschedule a couple of times (but always left especially large tips on those occasions). Still, the cutter acted coldly on- going. I've had three haircuts here by three different people and each of them nailed it. Excellent haircut. This tells me someone is paying attention and they're only hiring people with skills. I think they each said they'd worked there forever so that makes sense - and, well, one was the owner. I haven't really looked around Burlington for a better place, because why bother. My son was 15 minutes late for an appointment because our vehicle broke down. They could not take him, which is what it is, but the receptionist was downright rude! Seriously said of my college-age son, "I'm sure he'll manage!" When I asked if she could suggest another salon, she said (with huge attitude) "Google can help you with that." Too bad that we didn't get the same experience from this salon as the two previous reviewers. I made an appointment for my husband and on the phone, a woman cheerfully assured me that the stylist "is very good and that she will go through all the options for you". We haven't tried a lot of salons in the area so we were excited about the prospect of finding something that we will regularly visit. Upon arriving, the place looked cool. The poster-sized photographs that decorated the salon were beautiful, albeit too liberal for close-minded individuals. Sadly, first impressions didn't last. We found the stylists aloof. Plus, after my husband's haircut, I noticed a razor mark on his nape--not a good sign. And I thought he had an awful haircut! We will certainly take The Men's Room off our list. I had been searching for a new barber since my barber of 4.5 years had left Burlington. I didn't think I would ever find someone who I trusted to cut my hair...that was until I met Liz at the Men's Shop who did a phenomenal job. The shop was beautiful and clean inside. The stylists were all pretty cold, not welcoming, and spent a great deal of time on their own personal cell phone call instead of checking in with me during a 20 minute wait. The Men's Room came highly recommended on yelp and upon walking in was a super cool space, but that's about where my praise runs out. I felt that my hair cut was, for lack of better words, a real hack job and didn't reflect the overall reputation and appearance of the business. Maybe it was a one-off experience, but here are my impressions: It was all done with scissors, as asked, but there was absolutely no technique. I was made a little weary when there weren't many qualifying questions about my preferences. That sort of justified what followed...Everything was straight cuts with little forethought and no styling, giving me the appearance that I cut my own hair. It's messy, thick and uneven. To boot, the neckline is uneven and there are even hairs left uncut from the neck trim. I wasn't given much opportunity for feedback, but I could have spoken up, so maybe some of the fault was my own. I suppose after 15 minutes I was honestly surprised the job was considered "done". No finishing touches or anything. For a $12 haircut, this may be passable. It truly feels like a crime to pay $32 (before tip) for what took so little time and delivered poor results. Service was friendly and it seems like they respond well on yelp, which is nice, but with so many other spots in town it seems foolish to go back for a cleanup. I'll be looking elsewhere right away to hopefully get this touched up a bit. All things considered, it's a convent location with a cool interior and friendly staff but the end product was a little too "simple" and messy for me. If you're looking for a quick cut with nothing fancy, this might work but I'd consider the price before committing. read more

My family and I all get our haircut at the Men's Room. They offer both male and female haircuts. I have a beard and am very particular about trimming it. If you are looking for a fantastic barbermake an appointment with Meagan. She's an old school barber who is a credit to the trade. Compete with a straight edge shave. The first time I went to see her I asked her to trim my beard with straight edges, tapered in the front, and a specific length. She nailed it first time. Moreover, she has given me a constantly good cut every time there after. Both my wife and I have been exceptionally happy with the service at the Men's Room. People were friendly but my hair looks ridiculous after going there. For some reason they left a large clump of my hair sticking out in the back, making me look like alf alfa. I went in a few days later to get it fixed by them (for free at least, that was nice of them), but honestly my hair still looks pretty ridiculous. I've never had any other place do that, not sure why both of their haircutters did this to me? I'm gonna keep going to Associates in Haircutting on College St, which is half the price and has been far more reliable. read more

I came here during a weekend away, after my stylist in my hometown had been booked for a month straight, and I was .sick. of my hair being long and floppy. I probed a friend from the area about places that might be queer-friendly, and this place came up. I can confirm that girls-who-look-like-boys will be welcome. I got an appointment with Kristy, and she did a wonderful job with my short hair. Not a pointed sideburn or pixie-sweep in sight! Just a decent cut at a good price. Everyone was nice, but my haircut sucked. I know that I'm probably not their typical client. I just wish they would have told me up front that they had no one with experience cutting my kind of hair. Instead, the decided to take a risk and I was left unhappy. I had the male stylist; don't remember his name. He had no idea how to line up the front of my hair and raised my hairline higher on one side than the other. I should have know better. Fought for a space downtown, paid the rate, got to the salon only to see a hand-written sign they were closing at 1:00 (no doubt due to Jazz-Fest). Super disappointed no update was on the website. Hi, my name is Mary and I went to the men's room to get a simple simple haircut and Ryan Bradley gave me a chopped up 2 inch trim. I had just gotten out of work and was a bit on the tired side. As i left I said to myself why did he (Ryan) hand me the mirror; to see the back of my hair so the very next day i asked my Son to take a picture and an the middle of my back my hair was chopped up badly I was stunned to see my hair all chopped up --no straight across cut it was all jagged an the middle: mind boggling. I was upset that a hairstylist at The Men's Room where Glen is the owner would do a customer the way he did my hair. I only asked for a 2 inch straight across cut and i get chopped up an the middle of my hair how wrong this stylist did is beyond my understanding. Gong back Tuesday to see another stylist to find out if she can fix his dirty mistake. Will be getting a hold of Glen to ask for a Refund due to Ryan's negligence. This place is bad. I paid $30 for a really basic, not well done cut. The older guy with the glasses cut my hair, I get it short on the sides and longer on the top. The sides were inconsistent and there were patches left that were longer. I usually go to cheep barber shops in the ghetto ( I'm originally from PA) and pay $15 for a flawless fade and a straight razor shape all around . This guy didn't even do a shape and cut the neck round with even asking. The other people might know what they are doing but this place has the appeal of a nice men's salon but seriously lacks talent. Haven't had a great experience here. Aloof staff, OK cuts, overpriced. You're paying for the scenery, not the haircut.
