MGA staff has been taking such wonderful care of our son for the last 4 years. MGA has been his second home since he was 7 months old, and all the staff really nurtured him to be the happy more independent little child he is now. All the teachers, admin and staff are truly dedicated, responsive, and loving, knowing each child in every class. He and we will truly miss all them now that our son is going to T-K this coming August. The daycare center is securely located at the the FAA facility in Miramar requiring badges to get through the entrance security gate, which always gave us peace of mind. MGA has good sized classrooms, newly upgraded outdoor playgrounds and spaces, and plan extra fun activities for the kids daily, in the summer and thoughout the year. They provide meals and snacks (which a lot of daycares do not do) which makes drop offs so simple. They use the Procare app and are so communicative keeping parents updated with pictures and videos of what the kids are doing each day. We recommend MGA 100% and will definitely return and trust them with caring for our next child. read more

My daughter was enrolled here and it was amazing. Staff kept us updated along with photos showing activities they were doing throughout the day. My daughter had initially a tough transition moving and starting daycare but the staff attention made the transition smooth. We moved states and has to recently changed care. If Yelp had 10 stars I'd give them 20! I am so in love with this cdc. You can never go wrong with them, the center has evolved so much, for the best. They cared and loved my kids as if they were theirs, they do things the way they did for a reason! May it be for health, manners, cleanliness, potty training omg the space aint enough. Specially if it's a first-time mom, they helped me alot in the upbringing of my kids. I left MGA 2-3x and I kept coming back, each time I left were for personal or work reasons and I'd cry.. I'd always come back. This is why even my kids hve their own schools now, when friends, colleagues, military ask for a referral... No questions asked, 100% I always recommend them! Their great communication with parents, cleanliness of center, awesome GREAT teachers, quality of care and education, plus an in-house nutritionist!?! come on! that's one of the biggest part I miss with MGA, all meals included and i know they feed them healthy too! My son went to MGA for 2 1/2 years. He started in the 1 yr old class and moved all the way through to the 3 yr old class. I was extremely nervous about daycare at first and I expressed this to his teachers and director. They reassured me and were so supportive in the beginning and throughout his time there. He learned baby sign language, how to walk, eat at the table, clean-up his lunch, socialization with other children, play, he made so many wonderful gifts through the years, crafts, how to dance, I could go on and on. Most importantly, I believed the teachers loved him and cared for him, which meant the world to me. The only reason we left was because of a military move. Otherwise, we would have stayed until he started kindergarten! Thank you to Zulphia, Kim, Karina, Martha, Alicia, and Raquel. All of you were such wonderful teachers! We couldn't be luckier, or happier, to be able to have our children attend this facility. The staff's professionalism and care is hard matched amongst all the previous pre-schools and childcare centers our family has worked with in the past. The facility is second-to-none. Their programs, syllabus, and daily schedule has helped our children thrive during their visits. We have a 3, 2, and 1-year old and they all can't wait to go to school everyday. The security of the facility is fantastic as well, being on federal land and has a 24-hour security access point with multiple security guards on staff. My child started shortly after the new director took over a few years back. The location was convenient for my spouse and I, the security is top notch, and they provide meals! As an added bonus, it's been the most affordable accredited center I've seen in the area (outside of home based) This site is primarily catering to FAA Employees, but allows outsiders (like us). Due to being on FAA property, there's guards at the entrance, which brings some additional peace of mind. The teachers have been wonderful, we have been in all but 1 classroom over the years. I feel that my child really took off with reading readiness here, but it didn't feel like they were hardcore pressing the kids into it. I think it's just all the exposure to appeal to multiple learning styles. I also feel like the teachers and staff care about the children, which is what you want at the end of the day. They work hard to make things fun and special for the kiddos. I love not having to pack lunches. I've looked at a lot of places, and this is hard to find! I've noticed the kids have great table manners starting at a young age. The staff has been receptive to concerns we bring up. They are patient when I ask 20 questions and I usually get 20 answers Yes, the kids occasionally get a bump or scratch. By far the best daycare we've had our children a part of! The progress in their development is clearly visible, daily. The director, Yvette, is such a great person and got our oldest son in very quickly after we had to pull him from another daycare in RB for their lack of supervision and abuse of him. We absolutely love this daycare! They take such good care of our child and feed her several nutritious meals a day. They have fun theme days and post pictures to their app so you can see what they are up to. They also provide updates on when diapers are changed and when they have naps so it's easy to pick up where they left off when you bring your child home. There is great security since it is on-base and you have to show ID in order to get through the gates. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

This would be 5 stars if it wasn't for Joan Shutt, the Director. (Remember that name in case she ends up any place else) Quite a few parents over the past 1.5 years have mentioned her in their Yelp reviews and they are all correct. Buyer Beware! The teachers and staff are great! Including all the ones who have left as a result of Joan's mismanagement. In fact, we miss them. They are the reason many families have stayed far longer than they wanted to. The other families are great, including all the ones who have left as a direct result of Joan's disrespectful encounters. As a parent, if you don't mind being left in the dark about what is happening with your child's class, arguing with someone in management who you pay monthly, and seeing your child stressed out because of the staffing issues (the state licensing board was called in twice in fall 2015) then disregard my post. All of these reasons were why we chose to pull our son after 2 years and place him elsewhere. We miss the teachers and some of the other families, but we are happy to be rid of Joan's ineptitude and her drama. We both work full time and to have additional drama be a result of our son's childcare was not worth the money. Both the president of the board and Joan's manager were made aware of our concerns when we left. Whether or not change can be made will ultimately show the rest of the parents and staff the commitment level they have to the children's well being. read more

First of all, I want everyone to know that my recent change in ratings is due to the high turnover this center has with their amazing teachers. Since the beginning of Spring, they had lost 4 teachers and I recently heard 3 more teachers have left making it 7! The teachers there are very caring but anyone knows that if there is high turnover it means that employees are unhappy. If the board sees this, think about what you are seeing and I suggest completing a climate survey with your teachers and employees before you lose them all. You probably have not heard the "real" reason why your teachers have left for fear of retaliation. That's the environment your teachers are working in. Please look at what other parents are stating. The turnover was an issue for my son. He started acting out and was not a model student. Things were fine when he was with his primary teacher (Miss Ashley) but as soon as she took a lunch break or the afternoon teacher took over (ALL new teachers) his behavior would change. It got so bad that I was picking him up early, every day, the last week I was there. I thought maybe my son had problems and took him to a child behaviorist who stated he was normal and going through things that most 3 year olds go through. The biggest thing was a routine and consistency and with the turnover at that school, there was definitely no consistency. I took my son out and enrolled him in another pre-school. It's telling when your child's behavior changes for the better immediately. When you have a a great director and happy talented teachers you have happy students. For the teachers there, my son love you all! If you ever need a parent reference, please contact me. I have to update my review. My boys were there for over about a year and a half. We've recently pulled them and started with a new center. For those of you who have ever had to change day care arrangements, you know that it is NOT a decision to take lightly! I echo other's opinions here that the teachers are absolutely WONDERFUL! However, the director, Joan, leaves much to be desired. She is the reason we pulled our kids out. I no longer felt that she had the children's best interest in mind as she made decisions for the center. On a number of occasions, I would see a young child standing in the hallway, unattended, while his/her parent was picking up/dropping off a sibling in the infant center. Let me point out that there is not always an adult sitting at the front desk -- in fact, the times I witnessed this, there wasn't a person at the front desk. The infant room is at the front of the building which means this young child was left unattended at the building entrance. I was informed that there was a new rule in place that other children are not allowed in the infant room. There have been a very high turnover ratio -- which has left the center short staffed. In 2013, when Joan was building the staff in the infant room, I voiced concern about her lack of a back up plan in the event that the teacher she had coming in (who ended up being Ms. Mindy) changed her mind and left during the on-boarding process. Joan very confidently stated that the on boarding process was so intense due to high security measures that people don't typically quit. Fast forward to 2015. There have been TWO teachers who have decided to leave the center (Ms. Mary and Ms. Christina) during her probation periods. These are just the teachers I know of because their departures directly impacted my childrens' classrooms. Additionally, Joan did not feel the need to communicate to the parents that the teachers had left. One of our children has had a bit of issue with going #2. At that point, he had been on OTC medicines to help him go. Of course, the dosage is a process of trial and error. Unfortunately, this concept seemed to escape the director. He was being sent home for being "inconsolable" if we were a tad conservative with his dosage. On the other hand, if he had a generous dose, he was being sent home. Joan told my husband that she didn't have the staff to deal with "explosive diapers." Again, I want to reiterate that the teachers are truly phenomenal. While we were there, I had excellent parent/teacher communication. Even when I would need to travel for work, the teachers would let me know that my husband did well! :) Our last day there was very emotional for me as these teachers and other parents have been part of my "village" of taking care of my children. The environment among the children, parents, and teachers was very family oriented. Each child knew each other's parents. Each parent took care to interact with the other children when they were picking up their own child. It was an extremely difficult decision to finally pull our children from this center. read more

I had to update my review... I had given the school 2 stars because of the director who led the school, and the teachers kept leaving. It led to instability for the children. Now that director is no longer there. The teachers are exceptional. They keep it well organized, and teach the children many social skills that other schools do not. My daughter had a lot of fun while learning, and loved attending the school. If we had not moved so far away, I would send her back in a heartbeat! read more

I absolutely loved this place. My daughter was so well taken care of and the system they use, from the check in to the Procare app is so flawless and easy. I was able to see updates for my daughter all day if I wanted to. I'm a first time mom and I never felt nervous leaving my daughter here. The staff are all sooo sweet and they remember who I am and which baby belonged to me. The facility is on a secure compound so that was an added bonus to the care given by this daycare. They also have some caregivers who are bilingual so that was also amazing to have my daughter have Spanish at home and at daycare. I would recommend 10/10 read more

We love MGA... my baby girl started at 2 y/o, it was harder for me to leave her than for her to stay... this was the first place she'd been cared for other than home w mommy. I left the first day w tears in my eyes while she had the biggest smile, the teachers reassured me and said I could call anytime throughout the day. Ms. Tina , Ms. Ashley , Ms. Ana , Ms. Sophia are AMAZING!!! They are my baby's teachers so I see and speak to them on a daily basis... We absolutely love Merry Go Around. Our preschooler has been attending since he was an infant and now our newest baby will be starting in September. The teachers and staff are trusting, caring, attentive, and so fun! Ms. Raquel is amazing with my son! She's pleasant to speak with and always has a great attitude, even through the stress of the pandemic. Ms. Brandy has been incredibly patient with potty training my son, but with her help he is now potty trained. Ms. Martha is wonderful, as well. My son frequently talks about what she has taught him and knows some Spanish phrases because of her. He always comes home with adorable stories about what they did at school or what art activity he enjoyed. He's always singing songs that they sing and it puts the biggest smiles on our faces. Over the years we've been amazed at how much he learns from his MGA teachers. We had him enrolled at another child care center prior to starting MGA and had some awful experiences regarding lack of care and cleanliness. It took a lot for MGA to gain our trust due to being traumatized, but they exceeded our expectations and continue to do so on a daily basis! Highly recommend them. read more

My daughter and I love this school! She started here at 2y/o and is now in the preschool portion. The curriculum is similar to Reggio Emelia, play based with structure. The perfect mix for us! If my daughter isn't interested in doing whatever activity is going on, she may choose something else (such as reading instead of painting). The teachers are warm and caring and my daughter learns so much and has a ton of fun. Meals are served family style (love this!), the classrooms are open and flowing, and the playground is nice. No shoes necessary and pictures from home to display at her cubby, as well as favorite blankets and stuffies for nap time are encouraged. The center brings a lot of extracurricular activities also, such as visits from the Humane Society. I cannot say enough great things about this center. read more

Great center! My daughter started here as a 2y/o and is now getting ready to transition to Kindegarten. She has had a great experience and learned so much at MGA. My son started as a 3m/o and is now in the toddler class. The teachers are great, my daughters first teacher was Ms Martha and I cannot thank her enough for making my daughter feel welcome and helping her adapt to the new environment. She was also my son's teacher for a while and I know he really enjoyed being in her class. My daughter has been in the infant room for three months. This is my 3rd child, and I am very picky about the places that I take my children to for care. We have been very fortunate to have wonderful daycares, and I would consider this one of those places. When I first called MGA looking for childcare, they were so friendly and answered every question that I had. Everyone that I have met there has been just as friendly. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the staff. My littlest is in the infant room and has been there since 8 weeks old.We had tried a daycare prior to this, and my little one had been very upset there. I was worried that she would be fussy at this place as well. However, it was the opposite. She slept and ate very well, and didn't appear fussy or uncomfortable. The providers in that room have been absolutely amazing. They are very friendly, greet us at the door, and take genuine interest in the kids. I believe that the environment in both the room and the facility is what has made both baby's and my transition with the daycare easy. I would most definitely recommend this childcare facility based on my experiences. I have skimmed through the past reviews, and my conclusion is that those issues/people do not appear to be a part of the daycare since we have been there. read more

My 15 month old daughter loves this place! Every time we pull up, my daughter gets excited and runs to the door! This place is very secure. Everyone has to go through the guards and a gate to get in. It was very difficult for me to go back to work but this place assured me my daughter would be safe. The staff is amazing. I love seeing the children's artwork throughout the center. This is more of a cautionary warning than anything else...I called here a few weeks ago inquiring about daycare for my son who has significant egg and nut allergies. The daycare is peanut free (as almost all are these days) but not egg free. When asked what precautions are taken for kids who have significant egg allergies (like my son) I was told "well, we'll just try not to give him eggs." First of all, some food allergies are a matter of LIFE or DEATH. I was shocked and terrified that a reputable daycare would be SO laxed about such a potentially serious issue (and liability for that matter). If you child has a significant allergy, I would find a place that cares about it, unlike this one. read more

All three of our children have attended Merry Go Around, and we have been very, very happy with the experience. Our daughter started going there 8 years ago, and our son is there now. The teachers are wonderful. They are caring, committed, thoughtful and professional. They are constantly finding fun, creative, educational things for the kids to do. Many have been trained in SDSU's undergraduate program in early childhood development. Furthermore, there is very little turnover - the teachers we met when we started going there 8 years ago are pretty much all still there. The facility is spotless and the teachers are wonderful. My daughter Faith is an infant in the center and she is treated with care and love. I also see the activities that the teachers perform with the other students and it is uplifting to see so many smiles on the children's faces. The playground equipment is also top notch and scaled to meet the needs of each class. I also know that there is a new board team that has taken over and there have been outstanding changes so far in terms of hiring a new Director and increasing the staff. The last thing is security. I could not be more pleased with a childcare center. The staff is fantastic!!! Both of my children attended here and LOVE it! It has prepared them for Kindergarten and more. The social skills learned are impressive and it is evident in how my children interact with everyone they meet. They are learning social skills that many adults still do not have! The directors and teachers go above and beyond my expectations offering parent's nights out, coordinating fundraisers that help the community, hosting many activities (like teaching the kids to make vegetable soup), they have a garden, rabbits, creepy crawlies from time to time, and even put on a parent workshop to teach us parents how they are interacting with our children for consistency. I wish my kids could stay here forever! Not only that, but my daughter has some of the same teachers that my son had as an infant, 7 years later. This school has the lowest staff turnover I have ever seen. While my daughter's care has been only at two places (a home daycare and here), my son's bounced around. He was at FAA MGA as an infant, then at a home daycare, then at ChildTime, then back here. This school is leaps and bounds above the others! I realized that, but couldn't get him back in MGA due to a long waiting list for a while. In addition, the prices are extremely reasonable and the lowest I found! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the low price, but I would go here regardless! I truly can't say enough good things about this center or the staff and I tell everyone I know how wonderful it is. My child went here for over a year some of the teachers were great but some of the teachers were irresponsible. The upper management lacked organizational skills, communication skills and professionalism. In the end, my child (and other children) suffered abuse from another child at this school that the teachers were not acting responsible enough to handle. When the teachers were made aware of the inappropriate behavior the upper management was insistent on NOT telling the parents, me! Upper management tried to blame the irresponsibility of the teachers on the children. Blaming the children while there was a lack of supervision portrays the order of priority within the center. Different arguments were even started between my spouse and I due to upper management telling us opposite responses or statements concerning our child or even billing. At one point, we paid our tuition and it was lost and later found in a book. There has been a continual lack of organizational and communication skills that has been addressed and just should no longer be happening. As we all know, the majority of a good working environment starts at the top and works its way down. It would be in your child's best interest to find another facility. read more

My baby girl has been at The Merry Go Around for almost 4 months now, since she was 3.5 months old and I couldn't be happier. It's always a difficult thing leaving your baby with unknown sitters in the beginning but from day 1, I could feel that the nannies in the infant center, "little bunny" room, were genuine, loving, caring and dedicated to each baby. Initially I would call once a day to check in and they were so good about providing me with updates over the phone and reassure me that my baby was in good hands. All of the nannies are so nice and greet us with a smile and with open arms each and every day. There are 8 infants in the little bunny room, a lot to handle for sure but I never get the feeling that they're overwhelmed or stressed. All three nannies are so professional, patient and hardworking. Baby girl loves it there. I feel like she's learning so much and has reached all of her milestones without a problem. I love that aside from playing with all kinds of toys, they do art projects, they have sing a longs and ensure she's getting plenty of tummy time, Bumbo time, etc...and will soon experience stroller rides around the super secure FAA facility. I honestly couldn't be happier. As a new mom, I'm always asking questions/looking for suggestions and they're so knowledgable and provide me with good advice. If I could give this establishment negative stars I would. Note, some of the teachers are wonderful. For instance, Martha in particular is just as fabulous as can be, she's amazing. With that said, the leadership of this place is just horrid - from the Lead Teachers, through the Director, the FAA HR, and the Board (which is a governing body of volunteer parents who seemingly don't have the power to change anything). Although Joan Shutt (the old director) is no longer with the center, the acting director, Tina is the worst offender of childcare negligence to which I have ever bore witness. She's been with the facility for 20 years or something asinine like that and is just horrible. I cannot believe, even after a citation from State Licensing, that the Center Leadership has not taken action to let her go. Tina does not tend to the children at all, she doesn't listen to parents during conversations, she's ditzy so she frequently doesn't have good bearings on where the children are or what they're doing, and she's had multiple serious accidents in her classroom (all unreported). The only reason she's acting director is because no other teacher at the facility holds the credential required for the position. On multiple occasions I would either pick up or drop of my child in Tina's class, entering the room without Tina's knowledge and it would take OVER 10 MINUTES for her to even realize I was in the room (or on the playground). Even though this is a secure facility as pointed out by others, for an adult to be present that the teacher is not even aware of is complete negligence. She really is horrible and should not be working with children. She's a liability and for whatever reason no one is taking action to let her go. Lastly - Note the dates of the most recent "stellar" reviews. After Joan's employment terminated, the Board put out a request to all parents to advertise positively on social media so as to bury the bad posts and hopefully generate new interest in enrollment. They offered a $20 credit to anyone writing a positive post (they'd waive what they call "parent participation" which is an additional monthly cost not advertised). Don't be fooled by the posts, they're likely from Board members themselves or folks motivated by the cost savings. I wanted to love this school, I really did. I tried hard to, but disappointment after disappointment drove my family away. read more

With the current change in administration MGA has changed. The importance of the individual child is no longer important with the discontinuation of continuity of care. Children are being moved around without regard to their developmental needs. This used to be a center where individuality was embraced and communication with parents was of the upmost importance. We love this center! As an educator myself it is hard to walk in without your teacher 's hat on. However, the teachers are so good at what they do I can walk in and just be mom! The front office staff ( Joan and Sandy)now are so warm and friendly and make it a point to come out and say hello! The communication has improved 100% in the last few months. As an MGA family for the last 2 years, I'm a bit taken aback by the comment from Nicole H. Our son has been at the Center since he was 3 months old and we have never had a problem. He is now 2.5 and in the toddler room. All of his teachers have been wonderful and so loving. I am especially pleased with the recent change in administration. Our new director and front office staff have made it a point to be more engaging with families and keeping the lines of communication open. Our Board of Directors is VERY transparent and keeps all the parents abreast of what is happening in the Center. (Note: I am NOT on the Board). As a parent, I feel much more in touch with not only my child's care, but the Center as a whole. In response to the discontinuation of continuity of care (i.e. the children stay with the same teacher from infant to toddler years before they enter the "preschool" room) I, for one, consider it a welcome change. I feel children must learn to adapt to new surroundings, new people...they will not always have the same teacher once they reach school-age years. Sending them along to new teachers each year encourages new adventures, new ways of learning, new experiences. In response also of the comment regarding "children being moved without regard to their development needs," at least for my child, that statement is false. And I don't think there are any other parents who have complained about their children moving too early either. My son recently moved over to the "other side" of the toddler room as they welcomed some of the bigger kids from the infant room. Those children are having a BLAST and all of their parents seemed pleased. Regarding staff turnover - I am only aware of the preschool teachers leaving and moving on to "bigger things." All of my son's old and current teachers are still there. Funny though, that those teachers left before (or shortly after) our new director arrived. Seeing how most of the parents have been very pleased with Ms. Joan and the front office staff, it begs the question of the real cause of "staff turnover" - perhaps they just didn't like the fact that things were no longer going to be the status quo? All of this aside, the Merry Go Around is a superb child care center. It is NAEYC-accredited, the majority of the teachers have been there for years, the facility itself is incredibly clean and safe (parents must have a badge to enter through the security gate and must be buzzed into the actual Center), and I appreciate the play-based curriculum. My son literally RUNS into school each morning - I am lucky to get a goodbye kiss and hug. That alone puts me over the moon for MGA - if my son is happy, then I am happy. The tuition rates are the best in the area, considering that the kids also get breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks each day (I also love that they eat family-style, so cute!). With the recent creation of the Fundraising Committee, parental involvement has been greater than ever - they even hosted a family movie night under the stars last month and raised over $700! We receive a monthly newsletter full of information (which was very sporadic before with the "old" administration) and they even have a Facebook page to keep parents even more up-to-date about what's happening. All of these reviews have nothing but good things to say about the MGA. I hope one bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch. My daughter has attended this center for 2 years and during that two years I've noticed so many development areas she has improved in, including her speech patterns. She loves her teachers and her friends there. I enjoy hearing her telling me about their science experiments, what they plant in their garden each spring, and what they are turning their classroom into (jungle, ocean, space). I love all the little classroom animals too. I see in her in an environment that is fun, and makes learning fun. read more
