The folks at the front desk were super friendly; got a quick tour and they seemed to know exactly what I needed and pointed those out. The place had about 10-15 people in it but it was a quiet and productive space for me to work in. I bounced between a few desks and grabbed a drink, too. Bathroom was super clean, in fact the entire space was clean! Even the other patrons were nice and offered me a charging cable when I requested one from the front desk. The space really enhances collaboration but also allows for a more private work space if needed. A true highlight is the roof deck on level 5 complete with sweeping views of Philadelphia. The staff are welcoming and will bend over backwards to ensure that all of your needs are met (within reason). For example, I needed to print something out in order to be fully prepared for a training I was in town to conduct. When I asked where the nearest kinkos was, Dan, the manager, said don't be silly, I'll print out what you need here! What a life saver. I took a membership for 6 months but gave my exit notice in 3 weeks. I had been hunting for a good…read moreprivate office for quite some time. There are co-working spaces like wework and industrious with a lot better amenities and atmosphere but smaller private rooms. I chose the yard in spite of seeing obvious cleanliness issues only because I liked the sun-facing room. I was ready to compromise with the amenities for a better room. I was told that the room was not ready not when I signed the agreement but when I arrived with my stuff. I was given an ETA of 2 weeks but the room was not ready in 3 weeks. Moreover, the 5th floor where my room was situated was very untidy. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes for the whole 2 weeks and I had to go to a different floor to get cups and cutlery. The bathroom bins are always full of tissues. The office is about a quarter full and I have not seen anyone except 2 other people on my floor, it is not difficult to keep things clean. There is constant machinery noise on the 5th floor and it is a migraine hell if you don't have good noise cancellation headphones. I asked if a standing desk was available and I was given a faulty one with a slanting keyboard counter with missing screws, I raised this and the community manager just checked, fiddled with the counter and never got back to fixing it. I consider myself a low-maintenance person but my experience in the first 2 weeks was of shockingly very low quality while I was paying upwards of 1000 dollars per month. The "head of experience" was looped in my exit email in which he was supposed to gather feedback and see if I could change my decision, he never reached out of course! This office is less than a quarter full and I know at least 10 people who are looking for a good co-working space, the yard can do a lot better business if they get their shit together!

But it took the Pabst Blue Ribbon Crafting Challenge that featured PBR inspired crafts, and chili cook off that featured the likes of PYT and Abbaye; and live music from kick ass bands like Levee Drivers and TJ Kong & the Atomic Bomb to finally check it out. And while I savored bites of incredible chili and PBR inspired refreshments I was able to get a grasp on more of what 24224 Studios had to offer as a whole. Upon checking out the list of tenants I was able to spot recognizable names like Backseat Conceptions (The crew behind this long lost gem - http://www.yelp.com/biz/941-theater-philadelphia#hrid:nC5nrwoAsIo2BBUNRzy55w/src:self), Village Green Productions (http://www.yelp.com/biz/village-green-productions-philadelphia#hrid:h4l1ubby-5oN9-Nr-JREgQ/src:self), and others who held it down within the arts and music genre taking up residency within it many office spaces. There was also plenty of real estate groups, wellness centers, photographers, IT/Designer services, non-profits, and (say it isn't so!) Five Hour Energy Drink inside. The Skybox where the Crafting Challenge took place is by far the main attraction. It is a wide open and huge open warehouse space that is designed soley to showcase some eclectic events. Aside from the aforementioned craft market and FM Festival, Philebrity has hosted a few special events inside, Bands in the Backyard held its SXSW send off party (and might be moving into an office), and Making Time has hosted at least one of its Halloween freak outs here. And its calendar fills up with plenty of other eclectic occasions.

Really clean and set up nicely with a large desk facing the window. They tout a PC in each room, but mine was on the fritz and I never called about it. Food (at least the breakfasts, the only meal I ate there) was excellent. I asked around and the hotel is run by Aramark. Who knew they could operate a hotel/conference center so well? Maybe it will change my opinion of this food service behemoth forever?........nah. Fitness center was smallish but never really crowded. Hidden treasure: the "Executive Lounge" on the fifth floor where you could get a cocktail or beer while watching a game up until midnight. My understanding is that's a non-complete violation. Shame on Bok management for what appears to be biased [in]actions against Second Daughter.
