On the surface, it's a dive bar with dive food, but look a little closer. Signature sandwiches the Mine Burger and the Miner's Melt offer unique toppings that actually make this place a intriguing destination in Nelsonville's public square. The salami that comes on the Mine Burger wasn't good for my arteries, but it was great for my tastebuds. The Miner's Melt blended a lot of goodness between its sourdough slices and was worth the get as well. Beyond that, the tavern posts its rotating daily specials on Facebook with items that would surprise you given the rest of the menu. Think: Chicken Alfredo, Jambalaya and Beef Stroganoff. The Mine Tavern probably isn't too bad for a cheap beer as well. read more

Great little local watering hole and dive bar. Good spot to rub elbows with locals and eat and drink for cheap. Seriously, with their normal prices and then Thursday specials on top of that, this place cost half of what I'd pay at many places in the Far North Dallas area. And it was good!! Burgers weren't perfect but that were very tasty on both visits. We got a fried appetizer sampler and everything was fried to perfection - mozz sticks, cauliflower, pickles, and... something else. Perfect fry. Service was quick and friendly, and locals we talked to were nice. Small pool table with 50-cent games. Dark and cozy and no smoking. Good to go! read more

my brother and i spent three days staying in Nelsonville and stopped here a couple nights. Love the historic aspect of this place dating back to the 1850's. The small quaint downtown of Nelsonville is beyond charming and filled with history. We decided to grab a local craft beer at this bar while we waited for our reservation at rhapsody. I'll start by saying, this was the spot for locals, and the bartender seemed to have a lot of his friends hanging out at and behind the bar. We sat at the bar and found this dive to be a cool spot to hang out if you have lower expectations and just want good music and cold beer. Which sometimes that's exactly what we want. It took forever ( in reality about 15 minutes which felt like 30) to get the bartenders attention to pay. He spent a lot of time on his phone. The building has some sweet architectural elements intact but largely was falling apart and seemed to not get the love it needed. Not a super clean environment. The beer was INSANELY CHEAP and great. Great place to stop if you're in Nelsonville. We stayed across from the Opera House so we just walked over. I will say though, every time I see a sign outside of a restaurant that says "best -insert food here- in town" I'm always skeptical. I mean in a town this size you do probably have the best burger in town since your competition is McD's. Turns out the burgers were pretty good. The rest of the food was good too for a dive bar. The hometown friendly atmosphere is what I liked. Everyone smiled and had conversation with us while we were there. We played a few games of pool while we were waiting for our food which was fun. Our waiter was very nice and he gave us a couple suggestions on food. He didn't pretend to know everything. If we asked him about a specific item and he hadn't tried it he just said so. I definitely prefer this over someone who says everything on the menu is good. Overall it was good stop and we would go again if we were in the area. read more

I've been going to the mine since I was a kid, eating lunch with my dad. From lunch with my dad to great nights out now, the Mine has everything you need. Amazing food (I recommend the Miner's Melt), signature drinks (I recommend the Dr. Steph), outside patio, pool table, TouchTunes and karaoke, and outstanding service. It's a small town bar with a casual friendly feel, great for a solo trip or for large parties. You can't go wrong! read more

The place has a friendly atmosphere and it seems like everyone knows everyone. I decided to eat outside because it was nice out. However, the weather had different plans and decided to rain. They had large umbrellas outside so I stayed out there and the waitress still ran the food out to me in the rain. The wait was fast and the food was tasty. Used to go to this bar 30 years ago in school. The still have the giant fishtail sandwiches and the mine burger is their specialty. A bar on the square in Nelsonville. They are known for their hamburgers, so it is said, but the one I had would really makes me question that. I normally dont order pizza burgers but for some reason I did here and I still am not quite sure what I actually got. At first I asked the server if they had made a mistake and brought out a veggie burger as it looked like one, nope this is the pizza burger. Well it was two layers of something with cheese in between yet oddly no sauce. I am not quite sure if there was any actual meat or something that they fried. Was going to a David Bromberg concert at Stewarts Opera House in the same block as the Mine. Ordered a Bud and was told it was last call,that was at 5:45pm. The place closed at 6pm. Any bar knows that the most profitable hours are the 2 hours before a concert starts and this place closed. The staff was only friendly to the locals that were there. I think being this close to Meigs County, these people may have a second source of income. read more
