Being a Saturday lunch time in the summer, Tenby was buzzing and we were happy and surprised to be seated fairly quickly, especially being that we had a large party. Our 2 hour hike from neighboring Saundersfoot left us salivating for food (and a beer!). Now being an ex pat there are certain things in life that are constantly craved and desired, one such example being a good old fashioned pie made with the perfect puff pastry housing; well, The Qube gave that to me and for that I am forever thankful!!! My steak and kidney pie was nothing short of amazing, the perfect flavor, the perfect puff pastry and served precisely the right way, with fat chips and peas. All sorts of deliciousness graced our table and everyone walked away raving, but my memory simply goes to my pie every time. The Qube also had a great selection of drinks and even some beers from local brewers. Absolutely love Tenby, love The Qube and love a good pie!

Is there a better-located caff in the whole of the UK?…read more Nope. The Dennis juts out over Tenby's picturesque Castle Beach (one of four sandy beaches in the town) and does its job very well. Order at the counter, then plonk yourself in one of the seating booths - if you're lucky you'll get a window seat overlooking the beach, sea and St. Catherine's Island - and way to go! The menu is fairly standard caff fayre, including breakfasts, omelettes, jacket potatoes, things on toast, but with a few daily specials chalked on the boards on the wall. A tip - if plumping for the toast, choose brown: it's granary and thick, and knocks spots off its thin white counterpart. The cafe only opens from April until the end of October, and during the rest of the year you'll have to look on as a select group of wizened locals are allowed entrance daily throughout the winter for an early morning cuppa before it shuts for the rest of the day. What goes on behind the green door during those months? Perhaps I'll be fortunate enough to join the inner circle one day...

How many ways can I say YUM?…read more I first experienced the wonder that is the Plantaganet one Christmas, when the the pivotal three couples in our group of 'kids' munched a glorious meal here. It was amazing. Salmon that melted in the mouth, steaks as soft as butter... Incredible. As a result we've been back countless times since and booked the entire place out for last New Year's Day, something which shall doubtless be happening this year too. If you can catch it in winter, do have some of the delicious mulled wine they serve at the bar. The bar itself is gorgeously decked out in wooden furnishings with lush little wicker cushioned seats and quirky features. The staff are super attentive and the proprietor is something of a character. But the real stars are the dishes themselves. This place does fantastic mussels (fish and shellfish are a bit of a speciality here), the meat is cooked to perfection and the sides they provide you with are insanely tasty. Oh and you must have the bread to pick at for the start of your meal, baked fresh and full of olives and sundried tomatoes. It's a rabbit warren of a place with winding stairs, and it's family friendly and harbours tons of charm and character. I can never wait to come back here whenever I leave Wales. Do try it!
