However, I was asked to come along for moral support and to step in if anything happened (no clue how I would've done that, but hey ho, I wasn't going to argue). Rafael (the client) called in the morning to see if there was any chance of him getting his hair cut. You must understand, he's been wanting to do something to his hair for a while, but he's never dared to and kept going for a normal, 7/9 pound hair cut. "Splurging" (bah!) 20 quid for a hair cut was not an easy decision to make. However, he did. So, he called, and got an appointment. We walked in, and a really nice guy (sorry, I have no idea what his name is) took our bags and coats (yes, even mine!), explained that Tommy was still busy cutting a clients hair, and whether we wanted something to drink. We declined, but later I realised they have a properly stocked bar in the far corner - I'm talking a good selection of whiskies (even I approve of some of them) and beers etc. It has a friendly atmosphere. As a girl, slightly intimidating (especially when dressed for a long day in the lab rather than to impress) but everybody was very nice and didn't really pay that much attention anyways. Everybody looks comfortable and chatty and like they really know that they're doing. I was able to listen in to one particular conversation that was going on at the chair in front of me, and I loved how much time the barber (?) took with his client to explain exactly what he was doing so that the guy would be able to replicate the look at home with his own hair brush, gel stuff and blow dryer (this experience opened my eyes to the world of mens hairstyling that I have never experienced in any sort of closeness, but that's besides the point). I love the music that the play also. Rafael was asked over and explained to Tommy what he wanted done with his hair, Tommy smiled and got to work. Personally, I think he did a fantastic job. Rafael was very happy. Lots of extras were offered (including neck shaving?). Rafael says he will definitely be coming, maybe not next month, and with slightly longer hair so that he barber has a little more hair to work with. From both of me, this places gets a thumbs up and we can both recommend this to anybody!

I like the shop's atmosphere; it's modern and cool but not pretentious or intimidating. Mike is a pro at his craft and also a real gentleman. He consults with you beforehand and explains what he'll do, making sure you get the haircut you want. He's also a good conversationalist and plays good tunes. It all adds up to a high quality, relaxing experience. Which is what getting your haircut should be like, right? Couldn't be more pleased to have found Mike at Brother. Highly recommended.

Another barber came in place. After talking to him for 10 minutes, he got started on my husband. All in all, it took 40 minutes to get a beard trim - I don't know how efficient that was. BUT, in this barber in Finnieston, the staff don't have sailor tats and twirly moustaches. There is no two week booking in advice required. There is no artisan coffee being ground in the back shop, nor any copies of Vice magazine waiting to be read. It's just a classic Gentleman's barber, with zero pretension. For those that do not trust the humble barber, I would say to you, have faith and yee shall be rewarded! For a mere £9, these guys do a great quality cut. They can even tackle the most complex of hair. I know this because I am that man with the wiry, frizzy, out of control hairdo that seems to grow overnight into some sort of might bush. They guys take great pleasure and care when cutting hair, I for one am a fan. So much so, that Silver Scissors have become my barber of choice for over 5 years now! Not only are the hair cuts good, its super friendly and the staff have just enough chat, but not too much chat that its overbearing. It's also the type of place where you can arrive any time been 10am and 7pm and you will get your hair cut. No booking, no messing, what's not to like? The boy is super fussy with who cuts his hair so it took a bit of convincing that another local barber could do as good of a job or better... Thankfully I choose the right spot & got lucky! (As the hair dressers right before this place had a lady walk out with bright blue & pink multi colored permed hair & I think he might have panicked if we walked in as she walked out...) So on to the next place, a spot for men only "Parade Barbers: Bespoke Gents Grooming" and I thought this sounds like a safer choice! The place is small but just right, located on the parade. There were two women who were busy cutting men's hair but were friendly and told us they accepted walk ins. The shop is surrounded by mirrors, a front desk area, two chairs for clients and waiting area containing a couch with a flat screen tv (of course with FIFA ready to be played on a Xbox while the men wait!) Christine (the Proprietor/Creative Director of the establishment) cut Craig's hair and did an excellent job as she did exactly what he asked for. Super nice girl and fun to talk to also! The staff are peaceful, not intent on blathering, sharing ideas for a comedy show or testing your football knowledge. As a barbers, the cuts are straight-forward and simple, for the most part (at least, mine was), but done efficiently and accurately. I am another reasonably satisfied customer for City Barbers, although I find all the football stuff…read morea bit dull: being in the centre of town, it is constantly busy during the weekends, and I have aimed to get my hair done during the week when the waiting time is usually short. It isn't very personal: the many barbers are work mean that I have never had the same stylist twice, and it is very much a cut and go- speed and accuracy, not banter are critical, but the price is fair for the location and the service efficient.

I'm strictly a short back and sides man, apart from that dalliance I had with long hair that I try not to talk about any more. City Barbers covers that easily, quickly and with minimum fuss. I'm always in and out of here in way less than 20 minutes. There's no appointments, just walk in and wait, although that's never long. While you wait, big screens show classic sporting moments from Scottish history, usually football, but I have seen rugby from time to time. The walls and ceilings are adorned with classic newspaper front pages, football magazines, boxing programmes, rugby articles... it's a treasure trove of history and almost worth visiting for alone. I admit it might not be for everyone, but if you just want a quick trim and to be on your way, I can't fault it.

This is a fantastic barbers. I don't know what it is like for grown men, but for wee boys, it is…read morethe bee's knees. They have a little yellow car as a seat, at just the right height to see in the mirror, so if your boys are anything like mine they will actually be clamouring to go so they can 'drive the car' , rather than having to be forced! The guy who cuts their hair is really good he always seems to get it right, not too long, and not tooshort, and he must have a magic touch cos they just sit so still for him! As well as all this, they also have copious books on boy-type subjects like Thomas the Tank, Bob the Builder and Postman Pat, and, if you're good, a lolly at the end too. Plus its really cheap. Overall, this little shop deserves a standing ovation!

I note the only other review is certainly not positive and the author obviously did not know too…read moremuch about the business. The review was written in 2015, Ray was never the owner of the business, he has not worked in the business for 2 years. The Manager is called Ian, he is a local guy that's extremely well known in Shawlands, he's been cutting hair for many years. They have a fixed price structure and always have had, Ian has been cutting my hair for years and I'm happy with the results.
