Upon arrival we were greeted with a lovely smile and the equally lovely customary "bonjour", this welcome continued throughout our stay. The foyer had beautiful cut flowers and the smell from these along with the candles was a pleasant assault on the senses! Our room, 1305, was a sea view room with the superbly comfortable Sofitel super king bed which made getting up in the morning difficult. The room was very large, about 38 square metres, and was very airy, fresh, crisp and contemporary. Our bathroom was a decent size and well finished in marble. The service from the staff was genuine and warm throughout, from the restaurant to front desk. Our young daughter loves swimming so we used the pool frequently and it was kept nice and clean and at night they lit torches and that created a lovely beach atmosphere. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to treat themselves weather single or family, young or old, with its great location, superb staff and attention to detail, it's the right choice.

We entered after checking in and drove around for 20 mins or more waiting for a spot, you have to follow people leaving the shops to their cars to get their spot. Dented and scratched my car on a tight turn - my fault of course but don't bring a large SUV / car. Smoking is not allowed on balconies, however our balcony had used cigarette butts littering it from previous occupants. Supposed to be able to cast from devices to TV but it didn't work (code on TV rejected). Room okay otherwise, beds comfortable. Pool is okay for adults don't recommend for kids. We went for a swim at about 4pm after arrival and the spa was full of adults drinking alcohol (it's a licensed premises). Sign states no glass drink containers yet they had glass bottles. Sign says no jumping from spa to pool,but kids (and one parent!) were doing it anyway. Needs maybe a fence along edge of spa, one where adults in spa can still supervise through. Exterior looks a bit run down. Lifts are odd, to go from room to car park you take lift to lobby level then change lifts to go down one more level. Buffet breakfast was good. We'd originally booked this as a family of four under my husbands name. He became ill so we postponed our stay and were given credit. Later he passed away. I called to rebook for us three and it had to stay booked in his name, but was assured a note was made in the system that I would be checking in and why. When checking in the staff said the names were different so I explained. He checked and then said there was a note saying yes, I was checking in, and not to ask why. Then he wanted to charge for the room, and I had to get him to check again so he could see the credit. He apologised and I get it, I just really didn't want to be in the lobby explaining my husband was dead...again.

She immediately became aggressive and told me to "fix my face or fuck off" . I decided it wasn't worth the hassle and ignored them and began to enjoy the show when suddenly her husband comes over to me, leans right in my face and tells me "Do you have a problem? Because I'll give a problem, cunt." He then threatens me and my family and says he can't wait follow me after the dinner and he's going to slit my throat. Obviously I was extremely distressed. I left the restaurant and asked to speak to a manager. I spoke to a manager but absolutely NOTHING was done! I was told I could leave ( no refund on meal that was $500 for three people) or return to my table where I felt afraid and intimidated. I returned to my table because we had paid for the evening. But I was so upset and did not enjoy my evening at all. I felt sick. Why is it ok for a man to threaten a woman at the Hilton? He should have been removed for threatening me. I asked to call the police because I wanted to pursue the situation but the Hilton asked me not to call. I agreed because I thought they would deal with this man and his family but they did nothing! In retrospect I should have called the police because what this man did was not ok! Do not stay or dine at Hilton Surfers Paradise because they will do NOTHING to protect you against aggressive people. We decided to visit Peppers Salt Resort and Spa at Kingscliff after hearing rave reviews and they weren't wrong! It was a great place to visit with the kids - they had a ball. I have a 2 year old and an 8 month old. It is probably aimed at families visiting with older kids (e.g. 7+) but we still loved it. They have two fantastic pool areas - a Tropical pool, which gets sun most of the day and has a spa area and the vast Lagoon pool, which includes sand, plunge pools and also a spa. It features deck chairs in the sand area, where cocktails can be ordered from the bar and brought over to you. We purchased a package with two rooms and a bath spa. It overlooked the Tropical pool. I believe all rooms feature at least a pool view. When we opened our front door, it had a foyer area with another two main doors behind it, so it could be split...if you were visiting with friends. One side of the resort is a Quiet area, so if you were looking at visiting for a bit of peace and quiet, you can do that too. Our package also included a buffet breakfast daily. What I really enjoyed about this, was the fact that everything was freshly made...including the eggs - no powered egg here. They also offer in-house movies for free, which means you can watch most of the recent rentals for free! This was great for when the kids were in bed. We had to visit the GP for a sudden rash that developed with my daughter while there (turned out to be a sunscreen allergy) and the reception staff were great. They rang around and found someone who could fit us in and then told us where to go. Everything is in walking distance for your convenience. This includes, the beach (not flagged though), a pub which has a great playground for kids, restaurants, a gelato shop, hair salon, bottle shop and IGA for your shopping needs. In comparison to the previous reviewer, we actually found the restaurants relatively priced but the prices of ordering room service or visiting in-house spa, quite pricey. We were also disappointed by the dessert menu available, so we didn't order in. Negatives to our stay: - Bad internal communication. I had run up weeks in advance to be assured they had a cot for our room. I was reassured there was one but when I arrived, they had the notes but they hadn't been passed onto room keeping, so they had to bring up a cot. Similarly, they one of us listed for breakfast, instead of 4. - Really poor signage. The signage in the place was really disappointing. I'd expect more. You had to navigate for yourself out of the lift, just to find the reception. Similarly, you had to guess where the Tropical pool was located and if the Season restaurant was where you were meant to have breakfast. I didn't even try to find the gym! - Noise can carry and we unfortunately had a group who wanted to party above our place one night while our young kids were trying to sleep. I know this can't really be helped by the resort. - We had swimmers fall over the balcony, which of course was once again our fault but normally you could go get them yourself from where they fell. In this case, we had to ring reception and trouble the guests that were staying below just to retrieve them because they fell into their 'private' but not so private plunge pool area. Positives: - Facilities, including individual room facilities - Capsule coffee machine in room (but only first two capsules were free) - Didn't have to bring own cot, had highchairs - Walking distance to everything - In-room movies - The staff really do go out of their way for you
