A while back the nut cracked on my 1986 Guild D212 12-string acoustic guitar. Unfortunately, I'd no idea where to find somewhere to repair it, and the one lead I had turned out to be someone who'd just retired. So I stopped by The Music Shop when my travels brought me to the neighborhood to see if they had any leads. "Sure," said the young man at the counter. "Our manager does that." A couple of phone calls later, to make sure the guitar and I would arrive during his working hours, he was looking confidently and affectionately at my beloved Guild. A replacement nut leapt into his hand, he asked me about strings, gave me a price, and made a guess at how long it would take (which was wrong, but that's par for the course). Today I picked it up. My baby is back, looks better than I've ever made it look, and sounds wonderful. This wasn't anything resembling a challenging repair to a luthier - I know that - but my beloved Guild got real Tender Loving Care, and that's as good as it gets. read more

These guys have earned a new customer. I dropped off my two Taylor's to be cleaned and restrung, I picked them up today and the look, feel, and even smell brand new! Great little local music store, not too many of them around anymore. Support local business and go to The Music Shop for repairs or general instrument needs. I won't step foot into the Walmart of music stores (Guitar Center) ever again. read more

I was looking for a place to repair Violin strings, when I yelped to see the closest store the Music Shop came up. I'm so glad it did. Called them to make sure they did repairs and they were super friendly on the phone. Once I got in, even better super clean store and pretty big! They had everything related to music. I left the violin for repair and it was finished in a couple of hours.. Super quick... It was a little pricy but maybe strings are pricy?! Not sure first time ever in a music store and I would deff recommend it! read more

The staff here is great. Very knowledgeable and always wiiling to take the time to listen and help with any question you might have. My kids both play instruments and anytime they have a question or problem with their instrument the staff is there to answer questions and even do some minor repairs. read more

Well, being a cat you can imagine the difficulty I face as a bass guitar player. Well, my furry paws can play that bass like its no one's business. Well, imagine my horror when I was restringing it and snapped a tuning mechanism...oh no! I have practice in 2 days and a gig in 3 and can't exactly play with only 3 strings....it was late at night so I hit the Peavey website (my axe is a Peavey Grind - 4 string) and noted the local distributors. Next day I was off and running. I hit the larger music stores (Daddy's in Hartford and Guitar Center in Machester)...no luck. They could order the part but time is not on my side. Hit Lasalles Music in West Hartford (they no longer sell Peavey gear...nice....). I was needless to say, feeling like i was never going to have this part. Next stop....The Music Shop (listed as Mulrooney Co on the web). I showed the clerk the broken part and in 60 secs he pulled out a BRAND NEW TUNING MECHANISM (it was chrome and I needed black, but I didnt care). Paid 9.99 for the part and was happily out the door....YOU SAVED ME MUSIC STORE! Place is real nice and wasnt intimidating as Daddys and GC can be. Clerk was great and friendly...I will definitely be shopping here again and I recommend all you other musically inclined felines do the same... read more

Scott was super friendly and professional when it came to fixing my fender telecaster deluxe when I was in a pinch. Also I love their vinyl selection. Not bad for a music instrument store. Seriously, go here if you live close by. read more

I don't often stop to do reviews but I felt I should write one for Scott and the gang at the Music Shop. My 10 year old daughter has now had lessons for guitar with Joe and voice with Mary and I can't say enough about how knowledgeable, nice, patient and fun they are! They can really work with people at all levels and keep you motivated. Scott the owner is always there and has also been so friendly and helpful any time we've had questions, needed advise or help diagnosing a problem with an instrument. I have casually seen him talk to people about at least a dozen different instruments and he always has the answer! I highly recommend them and I hope you decide to give them a try! read more

I started going to The Music Shop when I was a raw beginner guitarist and now have been going for several years. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable and are helpful and non intimidating to beginners and the owner/manager Scott is excellent. The rates for guitar setups, string changes, etc are very reasonable and the turnaround is quick. I would highly recommend The Music Shop for all your musical needs. read more
