This used to be a regular haunt for us until we had children and were told they wouldn't/couldn't provide high chairs, so we stopped coming. But that was several years ago and needing somewhere to eat for my father-in-law's birthday meal, seven of us including two children who are now aged nine and ten and don't need high chairs, decided the time was right to go back as it had always been a nice place for a family meal.
The menu looked perfectly nice, but inflexible. My wife fancied the fillet steak, but not the oxtail that it came with so asked if she could have it cooked with the accompaniments from the other steaks (rib-eye, sirloin), the accompaniments being a little salad, mushroom and chips. The waitress went off to ask and came back and said "no", because the steak was too small to serve on its own! Not a great start.
So, we ordered our starters and main courses, and that is where the problems began. After 45 minutes the waitress delivered some bread and olive oil.
Another half an hour and the starters arrived. Well, almost, we were missing one, so had to wait another fifteen minutes while that was prepared.
Realising that the kitchen was being slow, we asked if they could brings the kids pizzas out as soon as they were ready because the kids were very hungry by this stage.
Then a long, long wait for main courses. Including the kids pizzas - 45 minutes elapsed between the starters being cleared away and asking them to speed up the kids pizzas and the main courses being served! Needless to say the kids pizzas weren't sped up!
We placed our orders at 19:05. The main courses arrived after 21:00. More than two hours after we placed our orders.
The food itself was pleasant enough, but the experience was completely spoiled by the slowness. The waitress was nice enough, but there was nothing she could do apparently.
In situations like this I would expect the waiting staff to at least offer a complimentary drink or two, but nothing. The bill arrived, we complained about the length of time and they did knock a little off the bill, but as meals out go, it was a disaster from start to finish.
A real shame, because the food was nice. I just wish we had taken some peanuts and a pack of playing cards.
We won't be going back any time soon. I dare say there will be an inevitable change of management (again), so might try again in a few years. read more
