The Gift Horse is a favorite of the daughter. As soon as I walked into the bright and colorful…read morestore, I could see why. The space is small but packed with so many wonderful things! I especially loved all the tomato-themed gifts. I just found out that the tomato is Tennessee's state fruit, then kept overhearing people talk about the annual Tomato Festival every August! Yes, I will need to see that one of these years! It was tough, but we finally decided on some souvenirs -- keychains, pens and hairclips -- to bring back to Cali. Super-friendly and helpful people. Reasonable prices. Easy street parking.

To my credit, people are very poor at explaining it. To use another idiom, it's more or less the same thing as "Beggars can't be choosers". If you get 'ish for free, you have no right to bitch and moan about its quality. Anyway, the items in this shop are not free, but they are very much gift-worthy. If you want to seem funny or thoughtful or clever or witty towards someone you love (or perhaps someone you want to love you), this is the place to go. All manner of knick-knacks that are not junk, that are generally interesting, enlightening, or useful. Like a horse, with real good teeth.

Such a cute shop to browse for unique gifts. They have a wide variety of items, from baby gifts and…read moreapparel to kitchenware, home décor, and books. I didn't have enough time to look through everything, but it's the kind of place where you can easily find something special. Some of the items were a bit pricey, but there were plenty of unique finds that would make great gifts. If you're visiting Nashville and need to pick up a gift, or just want to do a little shopping, this spot is well worth a stop.

The Store That Sells Everything You Didn't Know You Wanted…read more I was wandering down what I think is called 12th Street in Nashville -- that trendy stretch where even the sidewalks feel cooler than me -- and I stumbled into White's Mercantile. This place is like if a country singer, an interior designer, and an old general store all decided to start a lifestyle brand together. It's packed with everything from candles that smell like wealth and nostalgia, to mugs that make you question your current kitchen aesthetic. There's leather, linen, and probably something made from reclaimed barn wood -- all tastefully arranged to make you wish your house looked like this. After exploring all the treasures and fighting the urge to buy things I couldn't pronounce, I did what any sensible shopper would do: I bought a book. Because clearly, I'm a minimalist at heart... just one browsing session away from becoming a home décor influencer. Final Verdict: White's Mercantile is dangerously charming -- the kind of store that makes you believe you need artisanal coasters and $40 soap.
