The Place- Very cool place with an impressive collection of classic cars! I am not particularly into classic cars but thought I would check this place out because it had great reviews and was pretty local to where I am and it did not disappoint. There offer two types of admission tickets. The $5 one is where you walk around yourself but only have access to one of the buildings. It is well worth it to pay the $20 for the guided tour where you get to see both buildings. Tour takes about 90 minutes and is at a leisurely pace. The 2nd building is 3 stories but does have an elevator if needed. Parking- Large private lot with plenty of parking. read more

I took my son here based on a good friend's recommendation and WOW, what a find. This place is full of eye candy, eye popping 1920, 30's, and early specialty cars you just don't see. Probably the best car collection outside the Peterson for period perfect cars. Perfectly restored and rolling art. I got goose bumps when we walked in. Super inexpensive and impressive. As will be apparent when you read other reviews here along with this one and view all the photographs, this is a beautiful niche interest museum. We had out of town guests who had this place on their list as it is one of a kind. First of all, it is enormous, spotlessly clean and perfectly lit to show off a jaw-dropping collection of vintage cars. I am not a collector or even a fan but I appreciate elegant style and beauty. Also, the attention to detail. While contemporary vehicles boast amazing electronic capabilities, the craftsmanship and love that went into the conveyances here showcase the mentality of an earlier time when quality and longevity were prized above price and novelty. There is not much for me to add. One tiny annoyance this weekend was a strange and very audible buzzing sound from a failing light fixture. That can be remedied easily and I hope the Nethercutt staff will take care of it. Otherwise, an exceptional way to spend some time on a quiet weekend. read more

The collection at this museum is pretty impressive! My visit to the Nethercutt Museum exceeded my expectations. The place was immaculate and the staff were all very pleasant. It cost $5 for entry and it was worth it. We just happened to get there about a 1/2 hour before the Steam Locomotive Train tour and it was a sight to see. The Nethercutt Museum is an automobile museum with an extensive collection of over 250 beautifully restored American and European luxury automobiles housed in a 40,000 sq ft space. Located on a quiet street in a rather industrial area of Sylmar is a car museum with a train permanently stationed at the rear of the building. Be sure to check tour hours for the train, as it's 12:00 on Saturdays and varies on others. As for the vehicles, all were pristine and representative of our California love affair with the automobile. Amazingly, these vehicles survived two world wars, riots and earthquakes in southern California. Today was my first ever visit and I've been in the L.A. area since 1991! I'm so glad I finally made it and was not disappointed. My son loves old cars and so do I, we love seeing the history of American and European motor engineering excellence. Most of the collection focuses on early 1900s, 20s, 30s, with a few more modern era cars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. If you love cars, I highly recommend this museum. read more

Lots of cool cats and I really enjoyed all the fun facts posted alongside each car. We didn't get to see the trains because it was raining but I'm looking forward to visiting again to check them out. read more

The cars are super fun to look at and we all had fun talking about what it would be like to drive in them and to see how they have changed over time. This is an awesome museum. There are two museums, both across the street from each other. You'll need a reservation (which you can make on their website) for the main museum (the bigger building). The smaller building has lots of older cars with lots of good information about them, which is self-guided. You can probably see the whole museum in about an hour or two. The bigger building is more of a mechanical museum. The first floor has a lot of cool, older cars. The upper floors has many musical instruments. The tour on the bigger building is about three hours. read more

We read on tripadvisor.com that there is a $10 pp tour that covers that highlights of the 250+ car collection. So we took the tour on a Thursday at 10 AM and it was excellent. We learned so much about cars, the first gas engine cars, and music boxes from the early 1900s that were part of the Nethercutt collection. We ran out of time to check out the trains and many cars, but we will be back. Since the entire museum and the parking is free, one can come back time and again. read more

But if you are, behold the 9th wonder of the world and most popular museum seemingly unknown to everyone in Los Angeles, the perfume zillionaires, The Nethercutt Museum. The Nethercutt's collected cars, electrical instruments, 1919 Motion picture projector and the second oldest Mighty Wurlitzer organ and mandated that the museum be free to the public. Honestly one of the best auto museums I've ever been to and one of the best collections I've ever seen. I would say my favorite auto museums in SoCal are The Petersen in LA, Mullin in Oxnard, and this museum up in the valley. There are so many beautiful cars to see from the Rolls-Royce row to Model A and TS, to the Tool Time Van (growing up in the 90s this show was huge for me and most millennials) so it was great to see that. Also they even have a restored Pullman custom coach and steam engine out back you can go inside. Everyone was very polite and informative and I had such a good experience (and not to mention it's free) that I plan to pay to see the Nethercutt Collection across the street in a few weeks. Parking is on site and easy and right in front of the entrance. It's a good time to visit too since they have some nice Christmas displays up. I would recommend to anyone, especially if you have any interest in engineering or autos. read more

This museum is amazing and free! This priceless collection of classic cars, music boxes, clocks, victrolas, self contained orchestras, and so much more is incredible. All cars and instruments are in working condition. Many of the music machines play themselves without electricity. The music room's pièce de résistance is a 101 year old silent movie organ that's built into the room as if it were a theatre. They actually show silent films here with it as accompaniment. If you've never been here, sign up for a tour; that's the only way you can see the music part of the collection and some of the best cars. The curator is the tour guide; he is very knowledgeable, personable, and funny. They also hold concerts in the music room. They also have a beautiful passenger train and they do train tours so find out when it will be open if you want to go inside the train. read more

I have never seen so many classic cars housed at one location. Lots of information to read on each vehicle, including its history and price when new. I wish a new car was $2000 these days. So interesting! The people here are so friendly. One explained how the vintage cash register worked and let me use it! Another told us the history of the Neyhercutt family and how the museum was basically funded by Merle Norman cosmetics. History can be so fun. Definitely come, we visited after going to Thousand Oaks for baby goat yoga. Admission is free. Check hours, it's open now from thurs through Sat I think. Free and plenty of parking and there were even classic cars In the parking lot for viewing. There is a train side to the museum but tours are twice a day, we didn't stay for that but will next time. Love this place. We usually just go to the car museum in Balboa San Diego, which isn't free, it's nice that this one is. There's vintage instruments throughout also. On a dreary Saturday afternoon, I wandered into Nethercutt Museum. Car museums are not really my thing, but I wanted to check this Museum out. I made sure to make a reservation for a tour beforehand. All I did was email and I got available times and confirmed. It was easy and efficient. They do seem to be booked out a few weeks in advance so I would suggest making sure that you email earlier than we you actually want to go. I believe that there are 2 tours on Saturday and I opted for the later one that started at 1:30. I got to the museum around 1 and talked to the lady in the front, who told me where to go for the tour (building across). But, while I was waiting, I could view the cars in building I was in. I asked about cost of the museum and tour and was surprised to learn it was free! (I should have done more research. LOL). So, I wandered around until it was check-in time and then wandered over to the next building for the tour. The group that was going on the tour was fairly large. First, I checked in with the man out front and he told me I could explore until it was time for the tour. There was another room of very cool cars. Once the tour started, we went upstairs and the tour began. Our tour guide, who I believe is also the curator for the museum, was very knowledgeable. The tour was set so that he provided information (about 5-10 minutes) of the room that we were in and then we could tour it ourselves. There was 3 floors to the tour museum. Each of the floor was super cool and rich in history. The other thing that was super cool was on the first floor was a collection of cars and there was no ropes around them, so you can get super close to the cars. Also, the guide will also open the car door for a few of the cars so you can look inside and smell the leather. The tour itself is about 2 hours. Make sure to use the restroom as there is no restroom until the last leg of the tours. There is tons of cool photos to take and best of all, it's free! I would definitely come back here. There is also a train that you can look at during specific times, but I missed it, so I would definitely come back here for that. read more

This museum is a fantastic collection of classic vehicles, artifacts, hard to describe musical instruments, works of fine art, and a large steam locomotive with unique private car. All of this in of all places, Sylmar, California. I have taken the guided tour several times, and whenever I'm anywhere near Sylmar I make sure I stop by.
