This is a gem right in the heart of Truro and we were lucky enough to choose it on our way through town on the way to Halifax. I had the pan fried haddock and my partner enjoyed the shrimp and chorizo pasta. Both were excellent. Highly recommend. read more

We had a great time the Nook and Cranny. Thanks to the woman at the Fundy Discovery Center for the recommendation. The meal was lovely. We started with mussels. Excellent! Our main course was crispy cod tails on lemon risotto topped with a terrific sauce of caramelized corn. The sauce was spicy and made the dish. For desert we had a lovely blueberry concoction with the unappealing name of "blueberry grunt"! This wasn't foodie food but super fresh ingredients prepared simply and beautifully. After dinner we moved into the main dining room for a terrific musician playing mostly NS folk music. All in all it was a great evening. Great food, great music, friendly people. Ambiance good But four of us were seated at 6:07 pm 5 minutes after another group of four. We were going to concert next door at 7:30. Our order was placed at 6:14. We were keeping a close eye on time. At 6:48 we asked about the order and we were told it had only been 20 mins. Not true! At 7:10- still no sign of food - so at 7:13 we decided to get it all to go. We left a 10% tip despite slow service. The other table of four had been served, had eaten, and left by 7:05. I ordered fish and chips. Batter bit thick so uncooked inner dough in few places but fish was delicious. The chips??? I'm just going to post a picture showing total - quantity minus one chip - couldn't eat them! Cole slaw delicious. If you go before a show give them two hours! I honestly think the order was held up. Maybe lots of orders ahead?? but that other table had plenty of time! Here on family business and I was pleasantly surprised upon walking in to this establishment. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, the barkeep was chatting it with, what seemed to be, locals, and my waitress was pleasant too. Most important thing is that my scotch was tidy just like I ordered it, and not watered down. I even had a good meal to go along with it. And I felt warm among friends which was good, because to me it was freaking freezing outside and I didn't want to be freezing inside! While staying overnite in Truro NS the hotel recommended Nook and Cranny for dinner. Was a rainy day evening n a 10 min drive from hotel so thought we'd try their food. Nice quaint place w friendly staff. Our waitress was extremely friendly n helpful. We had the crab dip, chips n guacamole n the blueberry maple summer salad. The crab dip was yummy w toast, the guacamole fresh n chunky n good. The blueberry salad was different but good. It had blueberries, julienned apple, candid walnuts n a delicious blueberry maple vinaigrette. Never had a salad like that and it was so refreshing. For entrees we had the crispy Korean fried chicken sandwich, Santa fe burrito, Baja blackened fish n mac n cheese. The crispy Korean fried chicken sandwich was sooo good delicious n flavorful. Baja Blackened fish - not sure why Baja when it could be a PEI fish ( just kidding) was v good too. Spicy n crunchy fried fish.The max n cheese was tasty too. Fish special halibut for 35$ tasted as if it was like frozen box meal that you'll never buy again. Way overpriced but mainly very dry like it came out of the freezer. Looked pretty but that's about all! Spinach dip tasted terrible and very dense like a Made with cream cheese! Cheeseburger was dry. Not good. Took forever to get out food! Over 45 minutes . Silver wear was dirty. Saw the silverware person removing food by hand before wrapping silverware into the napkins. Should have left at that point after waiting forever to get our order. Started really strong the nacho we're pretty good. I would not recommend the extra chicken as its was really dry. My partner got the fish and chips and I got the onions/becon steak plate 2 X 4oz. He offered the 5 shrimp $5 I took it. My partner did not like the fish and chip, said they were really oily. I did not try it, so I can't say. My steak was not a good cut, very stringy and I found it to be really disappointing. The onion and becon sauce was ok, Notting more really. Even the shrimp tasted frozen. read more

The food here is the best in Truro. We love it. Ricky at the bar is super friendly and awesome at his job - he makes you feel welcome the moment you sit down. We are working our way through the menu - our favorites are the rice bowl with tofu or salmon, coconut chicken and the tacos. Outside patio is hopping and the people are wonderful - we will be here once a week this summer!! Live music on Friday was great. The food is spectacular. read more

Hey guys and gals, on the road here in NS with a quick review of the Nook & Craney i. Turo NS. Chose this place based on historical Yelp reviews. A quick walk from most hotels in the area this homey place came in a solid 3 stars based on the service and food as well as its signature beer line the "Salty Dog". The food choices were unique for both appitizers and dinner choices. Everything we ordered was quick and yummy. My beer pairing of the salty dog blueberry was top notch. While the design of the 0lace needs a real designer, we found the smell, the food on the floor, ripped furniture, floors that looked at home at a fraternity, old napkins, and cheap pizza tables that overall had me wondering of the owner has a eye for this type of detail. This place could really be a four or five star place with a key eye for some updates to the place. We will be back to see where this place is next season. read more

The Nook and Cranny has excellent decks and is dog-friendly, which would have been enough for me to be happy, but add to that an excellent menu with creative choices (bison steak! Dill fish sandwich!) and amazing monthly specials (risotto with scallops! Grilled cheese sandwich with blueberries and goat cheese! Fried chicken sandwich with tart apple slices!) and a host of local beers on tap & in bottles made me ecstatic. Service was top-flight, and the waitstaff doted on my dog. Memorable! read more

Fresh seafood! We had a family dinner here in early July 2019. The live music was loud and the place hopping so we sat outside with our kids to dine al fresco. As a tourist, I appreciated that this restaurant is located somewhere between Hopewell Rocks and Halifax and serves high quality, nicely presented seafood (gotta have some vacation pics!). read more

Stopped by after checking out the farm out in Truro & was very impressed with the menu! I ordered mussels and the crab cakes - which were delicious! Would have loved to have 2 cheesy bread sticks with the mussels instead of one :) My friends had the seafood pasta and blackened fish tacos. Amazing flavours, HOWEVER, 4 stars because the fish tacos were very spicy & was not indicated on the menu. So my friend had to add a ton of sour cream to the tacos. Our server was great! The 2-star suggested heading here "Could've been better" says it all about this place. When we were there (tried it based on the positive reviews), the food was just average--and pricey!--for Truro. Maybe because there aren't a lot of options in Truro, that some people gave it very positive reviews? In the late afternoon, there was only one other table seated, and yet the service was nonchalant, if I'm being kind. I think my other minor complaint was the casual attitude of the server: Not in a rush to answer us and get our food in a prompt manner, and wearing the tightest LL leggings you can imagine. And I'm saying this from the point of view of someone who loves my leggings, but at my yoga class, not while serving customers in a work setting. I could understand this type of tight outfit if you were working for big tips in Toronto's Financial District, where the uniform is black and tight, and expected, but at a casual family dining eatery in Truro? Too many fine establishments wasting time on one's that don't seem to really appreciate your business. In Truro to wait for the tidal bore and stoped here as they had a patio that allowed our puppy to join. Service was slow as molasses. Topped off by a nice light drizzle without the offer of moving an umbrella over. Lunch was chowder and burgers. Something that should have taken 15 minutes or less ended up being 45. Pricey as well for a restaurant in town. The beer flights were a nice selection though. read more

Wanted something more than fast food and this looked like a cool place. We found a seat relatively quickly on a Sunday afternoon. There was one server and she was doing a good job managing the floor, pleasant and efficient. We ordered a cup of corn chowder and a club sandwich. The chowder looked great but was fairly bland. The chicken club sandwich was pretty good and the fries were okay. This was a decent experience though not overwhelming. read more

I don't visit Truro that often but when I do I try to stop at the Nook & Cranny for a pint (or three) plus a snack. The first time I visited was about two years ago, a few friends were down that way and found this place by mistake. It was a good mistake nonetheless. I had a great White IPA, and took home a growler to enjoy when I got back to Halifax. This weekend I popped back for some food, great nachos, which were more of a seasoned home made chip with a generous serving of cheese and the usual additions. Loved it. Sadly they aren't making the White IPA presently but they do have a tasty traditional IPA, a Pale Ale and a Blueberry beer, which was delicious. This weekend I get to enjoy my growler of IPA until my next visit. If you are ever in Truro and feel like some good food and great craft beer, I would recommend a visit. read more

The nook and cranny is our go to stop twice a month when we head home to moncton / on the way back. It has been our favourite stop for as long as we can remember. We've seen their little brewery come up, and have supported them. However the last two times we have went, the service and the quality of food has completely gone down hill. The service was terrible, despite only having 3 tables, it took about 10-15 minutes to have the waitress come out because she was sitting at the bar. Not only did she not once come out and check on us, but another server had to ask if we were ready for our bills. We waited. And waited. To the point where we had to go inside to ask. I had ordered the steak (as I usually do with mashed potatoes). She brought out the fingerling potatoes and when I mentioned the mashed potatoes, she honestly said 'yeah.. I don't think you asked for that'. Now, I have been ordering the kettle chips and steak for ages, i know how to order it. To be belittled like that was terrible. When she brought out the mashed potatoes, they were disgusting.. watery and not pleasant. I didn't eat the fingerling potatoes or the mashed potatoes and we were never asked how our meal was and had no service from our waitress. I genuinely can say that I don't feel as if we will be back. I'm extremely disappointed with our waitress and the food, the nook and cranny was somewhere I told everyone about and felt proud to bring them there - despite living in Halifax. read more

It was a different kind of pub. It was light and airy. I had short ribs and it was fall-off the bone delicious. They didn't have Guinness but the server recommended their Red Ale. It was wonderful! The Nook and Cranny is a pleasant brew pub in downtown Truro. Comfortable seating and located near public parking. Menu has lots of great choices so there is something for everyone. I had onion rings and the fish chowder both of which were delicious. The chowder is a generous portion so it makes a nice lunch. Tried here on a drizzly Monday in February around noon. It is a little confusing outside as it looks like the business has two entrances. We tried to open the door on the left and it was locked/closed, but the door on the right was open. Inside, I notice that it looks like maybe there is the restaurant/bistro side, and behind an old wooden door is a bar side perhaps? I didn't ask, didn't matter. The atmosphere is decent with simple, modern decor, including a couple of tables that have what look like big leather car or truck seats. Maybe seating capacity for 30-40 with a few stools at the bar. Friendly service. I tried the Gourmet Grilled Cheese (11.75 'nooky style with bacon onion jam, fresh basil, provolone cheese, Crusted and grilled in asiago cheese on choice of multigrain or white panini bread. Option to add chicken or pork for $3). I got it on white with no meat added. It was okay, a bit light on the toppings, could've been maybe grilled a minute more, but not bad. The fries come in a metal tin on the plate and were pretty standard/good. My friend had the Salty Dog Blueberry fish & chips (2 pieces for 13.75 'Atlantic haddock fillets, battered in our blueberry wheat ale, served with blueberry relish and coleslaw'). The fish looked overcooked to me, but he said it was done well and flavorful, fresh. He didn't eat the jam or slaw, so I did. LOL If we'd had a bigger appetite upon arriving, I would've liked to try their chocolate chip cheesecake that was listed on the chalkboard menu, but we were too full from a larger meal earlier. Service was slow. Waited a half am hour for lunch and ended up having to take it to go. Place wasn't busy at all. Ordered the donair and the BBQ chicken pizza. Pizza was underwhelming and soggy on the bottom. They didn't steam the pita on the donair, leaving the pita dry and cracking. They didn't use enough donair sauce leaving it dry and tasteless. They bombed an NS staple. Kettle chips were greasy and heavy and were accompanied by chipotle mayo that clearly only held enough chipotle to vaguely colour the mayo pink. So, in essence the chips were accompanied by pink Helmans. The servers were friendly and the patio is great. They have to up their game in the kitchen. Especially if they are marketing themselves as a nice brew pub. read more

On a weekday night, no problem with street parking and we didn't have to wait for a table. They can accommodate almost any dietary need which is a huge plus. Love love love this place! read more
