Any kind of roses, lots of them, but also of course trees, and other plants. When I visited Parc de Cervantes, it turned out, that it wasn't rose season. OK, if the don't flourish, roses are not that interesting. So I enjoyed the park itself, as a green spot in Barcelona. Close to the university districkt, mostley younger people with kids come here. Nearly no tourists - so a god place to relax.

What we did was pick up picnic food/wine and jumped on the RENFE train from Plaza Catalunya. Be sure to leave yourself enough time to figure out which train you are supposed to take. Our train left Barcelona around 2pm on a Saturday and we took the return train around 7pm. This was plenty of time for us to enjoy and get back just in time to get ready for dinner. The town at Sant Pol de Mar seemed like it had really cute shops. Unfortunately, at the time we were there nearly everything was closed. I am glad we had our own food and libations. The best thing about being in the Med Sea is floating completely effortlessly. This was by far my favorite part... well that and the beauty of being topless, or nude should you choose! Enjoy!

The other is not nude but in the center of town, and seems to be turning less "gay." Platja dels Balmins is the third gay beach that is about a 10-15 minute walk from the iconic Sant Bartomeu church. It's the most fun, relaxing gay beach I've ever been to. The Mediterranean water is incredibly warm during the summer. Balmins is a nude beach with beachgoers that are not judgmental about people keeping their suitsuits on, especially puritanical Americans! The beach section closest to the main entrance with the food, toilet, shower and beach lounge rentals is a mixed crowd. Nude men, women and children freely congregate au naturel. There is an invisible line, possibly the lifeguard station, that starts the section (closer to the town) where gay men of all shapes, sizes and ages let it all hang out. Unfortunately, the town decided not to allow beach lounge and umbrella rentals in the gay section for the past few years. So bring your own, plant your umbrella and put your towel on the sand. The best part: No charge. It's free!

It's on the east side of town past the old town. It was mostly hidden by an embankment, so when we actually walked onto the beach, we noticed as we strolled on the sand that everyone was naked. As a jaybird. Sure, it was mostly guys. All shapes and sizes if you know what I mean. There were a few women, but it was pretty casual like a hippie commune except there were a lot of gold chains. I'm really happy we decided to hire bikes, because beforehand I'd had no idea 1) how beautiful and varied the city is or 2) what amazing cycle lanes it has - we only had to go on a road once! The people at BornBike were extremely helpful and friendly, taking the time out to suggest good routes for us to use and making sure we were comfortable on the bikes. We were able to leave some larger luggage at the shop if we wanted, and I was surprised by how cheap it was to hire the bikes - we paid £6 each for a couple of hours I think and they were brand new and pretty comfy. In our allotted time we managed to get around much of the city, from the beach to the park to the city centre and back again. It was a really memorable way to spend our last few hours in Barcelona and I'd say getting out and about on a bike is the top thing to do in the city, you'll really miss out if you don't give it a try.
