The people who work there are nice (which is surprisingly unusual for a baitshop in Ontario), the prices are good (ditto; its a great spot to stockup on extra tackle and such en-route to your fishing spot), and the minnows are quite vigorous. In our experience driving across Ontario, you usually get to pick one of those things. No other shop we've seen has managed to hit all three. We've gotten fairly resigned to a sizable percentage (sometimes half) of the minnows dying before we get a chance to use them, but that just isn't the problem here. Every single unused minnow we bought is still alive and well in my cooler over a day later, and aside from a few that seem to have died from oxygen deprivation while we were changing fishing spots, we didn't lose any en-route. The only cons are: the place is a little bit hard to find (it's behind the Husky, and in a little corner unit that's a bit hard to spot), and occasionally their hours change a bit. So you may want to call in to be sure they're open at times. Still, the location is handy if you're going up North from the GTA to fish, and they're near Bass Pro (their reputation is good enough that the fellows at Bass Pro were the ones that originally directed us here), so its a great one-stop spot to replenish equipment as well as bait and tackle.

Beside annual free Santa Claus photos, the store features several neat displays and plenty of animal displays to bring the outdoor theme to life. While you can't miss the huge outdoor entrance, it's the interior mall entrance where you're greeted with massive bear statues, a fish pond and a large stone-encased aquarium filled with local fish species. With a selection ranging from fishing supplies, to camping gear to boating equipment, Bass Pro Shops has a cottage feel while shopping within the GTA. Prices are indeed a bit steep compared to other sporting goods stores but here you can even find hunting supplies such as archery bows. Staff can be quite friendly although we tended to explore the massive shop ourselves. In one corner, you can find a coin-operated shooting gallery where you can aim the laser at interactive targets. Skip it or hit it? It's a neat feature of Vaughan Mills that's worth exploring if you have time to kill.

And boy, were we glad we did. Everything from arranging an installation which literally took less than 10 min to the quality of the equipment they provided, I can honestly say that we'll be back to rent from these guys again. While we were waiting for them to install the cargo box, we saw that a lot of people were coming in to rent ski/snowboard equipment as well. This is mostly run by a diligent young team with friendly attitudes as well as a desire to provide advice and tips for your purchase based on their own personal hockey experience. Luka was a great help with our new skate purchase from fitting to sharpening. One of the neat features here is the shooting lane where you can try a couple of their hockey sticks. This lane used to be run by an assigned staff for the automatic puck system. Nowadays the RapidShot system is non-functional but you can still retrieve and shoot at the net. But beware of the long queue to use this shooting lane and many kids not leaving even after a couple rounds while their parents watch. The manager here does need to work on customer service. The skate sharpening is decent but I noticed the manager first deliver a bandage to a skate sharpening employee whose finger was cut and bleeding profusely by a skate blade. No regard, just a quick drop off of the band-aid and he was out of there. Then the same manager showed up at the 2nd cash counter as the "Next counter" was displayed so I proceeded. This dude took one look, silently pointed back to the 1st counter without customer skills. Skip it or hit it? If you play hockey, Pro Hockey Life is definitely a worthwhile visit.

This place is awesome…read more I brought my wife here to check out a nice new rifle for her (she's a novice shooter just getting into sport shooting and I've had my PAL for about a year). We dealt with Logan, and he was great. He was especially patient as I explained some basic gun handling safety to my wife as we were browsing. He offered us a number of choices and was super friendly and helpful without putting any pressure on us at all. In fact, he encouraged us to take our time and do our research ahead of time. Even to go to a range and see what we like before we commit. I have to say it's moments like these that make me proud to be a Canadian gun owner and enthusiast. It shows that gun owners in Canada are awesome people and are always safety conscious and willing to help those new to the hobby. After being treated, so well, even though we're from Toronto originally, we will definitely be coming back here. And I would recommend anyone even vaguely interested in firearms to come here and ask questions and speak to the awesome staff. Without a doubt they will take good care of you.
