Ok, yeah. Wow. This place is cooler than ice and a huge surprise in comparison to its very urban ugly surroundings. On an approach to the location, it does look like a white carcass of something dead, I'll agree with that. But we were particularly impressed with the ease with which we found a place to park. When approaching the entrance, you find yourself under subtle covered walkways that run past various food stops and cigarette vendors. When we walked inside, we were asked to go through security, apparently, but the accent of the security people was difficult to understand and so in my confusion I wandered right by. Nobody stopped me at all or questioned my entrance, which was perhaps a bit worrisome. It makes one think that perhaps the security is all a show to make people feel better because it took nothing for me to just cruise on by. Inside the dome are a variety of eateries including Pizza Express, Zizzi, a nightclub, theatre, etc. On this occasion we were visiting the indigo2, which I'm told is a smaller more intimate venue for music and other smaller events. The place was cool, I'll give it that. Indigo lighting, very modern silver decor, a long sprawling busy bar, hardwood floors, and seating that didn't appear, at first glance anyhow, to be clausterphobic at all. I'll admit some discontent at having to pay £3 for a small bottle of Buxton water...especially since they were making people leave their water at the door. The mark-up was ridiculous, but okay, whatever, they're making their money I get it. The sound system was fantastic, and the event itself was great. Keep in mind, though, that while the seats look airy, they aren't at all in practice. Even tiny people were shoulder to shoulder with one another, and as two fatties we found that we were incredibly uncomfortable and wishing we'd bought another seat to give more room to the poor folks on either side of us. Be sure to plan for this if you're tall or wide or both. Also, because there was no way to get out of your seat once you got into it, everyone's beer cups ended up spilled on the floor. Since there was nowhere else to put one's purse, my handbag was covered in gross beer by the end of the night. This is pretty standard for a concert, I suppose, but I found it irritating because the venue was *so* nice you'd think they'd be beyond that by now. The other major complaint was that upon leaving the location, trying to pay for parking was absolutely ridiculous. If you park in Car Park 2, plan to queue up at the one and only parking machine for at least an hour...and forget it if it's raining because there's no cover what-so-ever. Other than that, though, I was impressed by this location and can't wait to find a reason to go back for something else! read more
