This is an excellent pub in a normally awful part of town. It's off the beaten track, you can get a seat and the beer selection is great. Plus there is a cat which is icing on the cake! The big letdown is the food. I have yet to find a good Thai pop up in a pub and this was another example of this. Six of us ordered dinner and the food came out in drips and drabs. It took about 30 minutes for everyone to get served and the standard of the food was not great. Definitely homestyle not necessarily made by someone who is a proficient cook. The menu is definitely not all Thai (chicken katsu?) and the food is sloppily put together and not very good. It's very unfortunate because the pub itself is amazing. Come for drinks but go elsewhere for the food. read more

Fantastic little pub just off from Camden and Kentish Town. Your usual array of larger and not one for the ale lovers out there. This to me is a typical old school camden boozer. Thai food, good tunes playing and a very eclectic mix of regulars and people who look to have just stumbled upon it. Nice, welcoming and not a cliquey vibe that you sometimes get from pub with an obvious group of regulars stacked up at the bar. I'm always a fan a place that refuses to reform to fit current trends ie going gastro or turning yourself into an ale house or micro brewery. This place stays true to itself and does it well. Also I don't know what it is but I've always loved a pub that does the old melted candle in bottle look. Creates a lovely warm atmosphere of an evening. read more

My family and I have never been treated with such rudeness and disrespect at a restaurant. The bar tender who was taking our order raised his voice at my mum when she attempted to order food off the menu by title rather than by the corresponding number then when she opened the menu to find the corresponding number, he got impatient and said "just tell me what you want lady." Then he criticized our drink order as if they didn't have a horribly basic commercial beer selection. That bartender should be ashamed of himself. He is a disgrace to this establishment. I will never return or recommend anyone eat here which is a shame because the food was decent. read more

Accidentally discovered this pub one night when we really wanted to go out for a drink but didn't want to have to grapple with DrunkTube on a Friday night. It is such a pleasantly weird little place, with all kinds of crazy crap on the walls. Old Box Brownie cameras, random stick drawings on a piece of splintered wood.... just weird and awesome stuff. The best seating is the gigantic, deeply squishy, old leather couches by the back door. These are the comfiest pub couches I've ever encountered, and these tables also get old-Jack-Daniels-bottle candle holders with years worth of drippy wax rolling down the side. The staff are cool, and I've never eaten here, but the super-homey atmosphere makes it such a pleasant experience. Also, Random Fact of the Day: The Old Eagle is where Shane Macgowan allegedly knocked out his teeth on the bar. Does it get any better than that?! read more

This place is a gem in a part of town where they're really hard to come by. I work in Camden and it's easy to quickly grow tired of the tourist-filled pubs near the high street. This place is lively, warm, and delightfully random. You can spend a long evening there feeling comfortable and happy, in my experience. The food is pub Thai, but it's probably the best pub Thai food I've ever had. I usually have to catch the 29 or 253 home at the end of the night, and despite being tucked away, it's insanely easy to catch either of these routes home. This is my favourite pub in Camden Town (used to be my local). Just far enough from the roaming crowds that emerge from the tube station so pleasantly quiet and filled with locals who know about it. Laid back vibe and a nice touch of quirkiness from suspended musical instruments, funky paintings, a few busts and witty quotes dotted on the blackboards. The staff are always friendly and keep the place organised and neat. Furniture is a bit rickety - a collection of odd sized wooden tables and a few old sofas and wooden chairs but fits the place. Standard selection of beers and reasonable prices. I love the Thai food here. We talked with the chef once praising how good it was so it's our go to place for a relaxing pint or two and good eats in Camden when you don't want to be feel like your being processed by the mania of Camden Market. There's even a small beer garden at the back but dimly lit and not that inviting however. That's one feature they could work on. read more

At last, a decent pub in Camden Town (ish). You just have to walk for it-- though it's worth the walk. Was headed to a show a the Electric Ballroom, but was stuck out of the country (thanks, Volcano), so I asked a friend to find somewhere "close to the venue" to meet. She did, using the fine Fancyapint services. I'm glad she did. Only a couple of OK-but-well-kept Real Ales on tap, along with the requisite six or so flavours of lager. Stale Sainsbury's prawn chips. Roasts on Sunday, but thai food at all other times. Great decor-- Easter Island heads and whatnot, and not particularly fabulous food. This is much more of a drinker's pub-- in fact, I'd suggest they tone down the menu to more snack bites, as the menu was a little overwhelming and the food was, while certainly cheap, just OK. 8 minutes' walk away from the bustling high street on a quiet street and run by nice folks who seem to know how to pull a pint. read more

When my old man was a young man and he lived in Camden Town he used to pull pints in the Old Eagle. By all accounts it was a very different kettle of fish in those days. Still, when he came to visit over the Easter weekend we had a family outing to investigate his old haunt. There's a subtle Oirish theme going on here, hardly to be wondered at, not in a tacky O'Neils way. In fact, were it not for the Irish barman (who carried himself very much as if he was the guv'nor of the establishment) we probably wouldn't have noticed the odd ceildh poster here and there. I really like the place. The walls are festooned with pictures, which vary in quality, and the bar is deck out in all kinds of tat Toby jugs, ornaments and the like. There are a couple of knackered old sofas which contribute to the cosy, relaxed atmosphere, some pretty unobtrusive music, nightlights and flowers every where, it's just a really nice, unpretentious boozer. They boast a Thai food menu (which I'm all in favour brilliant pub food! Quick, delicious, plenty of ballast!) which I shall try and report back on soon! In the beer department they had a pretty standard range, with Old Speckled Hen and Green King IPA on draft, both of which were delicious. Having not been back to this part of Camden since he left University, we had to put up with an awful lot of reminiscing from the Pater - lengthy monologues about how you'd have the saloon bar that side, and the partition was by that door, which even then had been bricked up, but the tiling on the front door step was still the same, etc etc, but that kind of added to the quaint, cosy charm of the place. It's obviously a very different place now - Damn sight less seedy than it used to be as a tear trickled down his cheek. And a good thing too. If I lived any closer I'd probably be there every night. I have good memories of a previous visit to this pub, celebrating a significant event in a friends life. They were quashed this time by next to no beer choice (just Greene King IPA, my most hated) and a claustrophobe's worst nightmare of a pub in mid quiz. read more

Ooooh, it's an odd mix, this one. It certainly is one of the most eclectic pubs around, decorated with random instruments hanging from all over the ceiling, busts of Roman emperors and strange artefacts crammed into every corner. Even with this it still manages to feel cosy rather than cramped. Actually the interesting decor is the best thing about this place. It's still got the original wooden carved bar and leadlight windows, with the addition of a type of conservatory at the rear that opens onto a small outdoor 'terrace' in the non-posh way. Good for smokers that want to sit outside. The food here is Thai and it looks quite good, but I've only ever had drinks here. They do have live music on certain nights of the week and it kind of feels like you've walked into a friends house when their old uncle has picked up the guitar to entertain after dinner. Well, maybe that's just the night I was there, but I can't see it really rocking out! Patrons were a mix of young and old, sensible types and the usual Camden drunks, so definitely one to check out! read more

I have played at this cosy pub in crouch end a few times, even st patricks day and it was worth while if you bring a few people with you. Its not that busy, but has a nice atmoshere to it. The bar staff are a little irritable, but generally nice. The sound is actually quite good, for acoustic gigs anyway. I like this pub, its good if you want a pint after work with your mates, with a little live acoustic music to back it up. recommended. read more

The Old Eagle is quite unknown even for people that live in Camden Town, but it really is one of the nicest pubs around. It is near Camden Railway station, with a very interesting and uncanny interior, full of curious paintings and sculptures. Nonetheless, the place feels like home and the atmosphere is very warm. And of course, the beer garden: not the biggest one but also very comfortable, including a table tennis area. read more

Whoohoo !!! What such à pub I am French, I lived in Camden and now in South West London but I don't hesitate to cross London to get good vibes, laid back atmospher and the best Thaï food I have ever eat apart from Asia. Old music instruments, esoteric paintings, warm and friendly staff and a boss who seems to have been a former star : all Is zen attitude and I would like every moment here would be an endless one. read more
