We went to a friend's wedding in Wylye a couple of summers ago, where we stayed with Paulene, her husband, small dog and cat(!) at the lovely Old Post House in Great Wishford.
Paulene welcomed us after a particularly long and tiring car journey on a Bank Holiday Saturday. She offered to make us a sandwich to revive us before we headed-off to our friend's wedding an hour later! At the time, those sarnies were the best cheese and tomato sandwiches we had ever tasted! We hadn't quite planned for a delayed, four hour car journey from London and subsequently had no food with us, so a snack on arrival helped sustain us until the wedding reception!
The sandwiches were brought to us in the double back bedroom and were served on pretty crockery and lace trimmed napkins. We felt very well looked after and lunch was much appreciated especially as the nearest place to buy food (snacks) is a garage approx a mile away!
Our room was as beautiful as it looked on the B&B's website and the attention to detail in how the rooms were individually decorated was excellent.
Breakfast was a tasty selection of cereals, followed by a delicious traditional english breakfast. Our table was set beautifully with co-ordinated table linen and pretty crockery. This isn't a "chintzy" B&B, but a stylish and chic house which is shown in the thought that has gone into coordinating all of the soft furnishings throughout the house.
Our enjoyable stay at The Old Post House was completed with a wander around the gallery which is housed in the Old Post Office. Here the gallery displays creative arts, textiles, ceramics and jewellery all made by local artists.
Visiting the gallery was a lovely way to finish off our stay. After purchasing a pair of handmade earrings from the gallery, I now have a gorgeous reminder of our stay and The Old Post House in beautiful Great Wishford. If you're in the area, I couldn't recommend this B&B highly enough. It's excellent! read more
