The River Barn is a gem. We have eaten there twice, and both times the food has been out of this world. The restaurant focuses on delivering a small, top quality menu with a short, decent wine list and great service.
On the last visit we shared a mackerel pate starter, which was fresh and flavoursome, without being too salty. Main courses were pork and cod. The pork was fantastically tender, in a rich gravy. The cod, done to perfection, and served with magical samphire and vegetables. Impossible to fault.
Desserts were a chocolate brownie and treacle tart. Both were exquisite, well-balanced and the right size. The Mrs had a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, I had a couple of South American Merlot. Both were top notch. Service was very friendly, without being intrusive.
The bill was £70. No complaints there.
Overall, the feel is of a farmhouse kitchen. The food is what you might get in a lass pretentious London eatery. There is nothing to compare with the River Barn in the area. Highly recommended. read more
