No notification. After forcing the Inn's hand they changed the accomodations closer to what they originally had been. The room we stayed in was dirty and lacking in amenities such as towels and soap. They are extremely behind on offering items such as non-allergen soaps. There were dead bugs all over the floor. The crank on the window was broken off. We received a lot of "I don't knows" from the staff. When I arrived home, I did check my credit card activity. At that point after asking them on the first night and on the last day, if any money was owed and told repeatedly that it was not, since they had made the mistake, I found they had charged us more - even though it was unauthorized. I called and have been told the last charge would be reversed. But we will see what happens. This is not a trust worthy or reliable place to visit. Watch out.

It smelled musty for only the first couple of seconds upon entering--then it was all good. The bedding was perfect; I wanted to take it home with me. The main floor was either preserved or restored with great care. The best thing may have been breakfast. The innkeeper was very accommodating of my vegetarianism; she asked follow-up questions to make sure I would happily eat my fill. Yogurt and grape nuts in shot glasses! Oreo pancakes! Halloween candy! Plenty of coffee and tea available. Highly recommended!

The owners of that one recommended AC Thomas House. It is indeed a beautiful property, from the spacious veranda and lovely, historically appointed rooms to the perfect downtown New Harmony location. But upon arrival, we learned that it is up for sale. The current owners were nowhere to be found - apparently one is ill and the other is engaged in other projects now. The owners left everything in the hands of one very part-time staff person (you have to call this person if you need anything - there's no one on site). Even under these conditions, with just minimal attention, our stay could have been much improved. For example, they could have put water bottles, tissues, and soap in the rooms (all of these staples were lacking). The breakfast was a big disappointment. The staff asked us in an email what we wanted for breakfast but then did not come through for two of the three people in our party. Minimally, real half-and-half for coffee is essential for any place offering breakfast (they had bought that horrible creamer at the Dollar Store even though we had indicated in the email that we would appreciate half & half). And a box of nice black tea is another essential for a place like this that was lacking. Again, the breakfast issue can be remedied easily enough. The staff person was very nice, and was helpful to the degree possible, but perhaps isn't being given the resources or direction to do these things? Also, there was a baby shower there the day we arrived, and some of that wasn't cleaned up, leaving traces (stray napkins, cups, decorations) in the common areas for the next 24 hours. That, too, can easily be remedied. The larger issue, which hopefully the new owners (when there are some) will attend to is the plumbing. Neither the toilet nor the shower in the Duchess Kate room worked (fortunately the staff person gave us keys to the adjoining room, empty that night, or we would not have had even a working toilet). The showers in all of our rooms need to be brought up to contemporary standards. Hopefully the new owners (when there are some) can remedy these issues and bring this place back to 5 stars, which it richly deserves, but right now, sadly, it is not. Also, not having an inn keeper (or even a more permanent staff person) onsite made it feel more like an airbnb than a Bed & Breakfast. Part of the pleasure of a stay in a place like this is being able to converse with the owners (which I was able to do in the previous place I had stayed).  I'm very disappointed as I had wanted to offer my guests a special weekend. It was still great being in New Harmony, and this place has all the potential to be amazing, and aesthetically it's an absolute treasure - but right now, sadly, I cannot recommend it. The current owners need to step up their game here or stop renting rooms.

Seems the place had recently changed hands and no longer accepts American Express, which is evidently how they are paid by Hotwire. I told them that Hotwire doesn't do refunds and showed the girl a copy of their cancellation policy but she wasn't going to let me check in without paying. I had to have a room so, reluctantly, I did. It took a lot of time and a lot of arguing but I was finally able to get the manager to call Hotwire himself and I did get my payment to Windsor refunded. But only after another session with a poorly dressed, uneducated, tie-dyed bozo who actually cursed at me. The room itself was well appointed, except for the towels, but was dirty and smelled bad. The entire hotel is dimly lit and not particularly clean. The pool is closed and most vending machines don't work. They don't have a credit card machine at the front desk and have to run your card at the bar at the other end of the building. Worst of all, I am covered in bed bug bites. I do not recommend Windsor Oaks. And certainly, don't book though Hotwire!

There is an older section that is from the 50s., a newer section, located up a slope, from the 1990s. The first stay was in the newer section. The room was comfortable and clean, appointed with expected furniture and amenities. The layout and plumbing are old style. The bed was comfortable. The room is heated and cooled by an older type under-the-window HVAC unit common on older hotels. The place is showing some signs of wear. The story from this visit: This most recent visit, on June 18, 2024, I was given a room in the older section. The door was missing the security bar, the deadbolt was difficult to engage, requiring a push on the door. There was a remote control for a HVAC unit, but it was not in evidence in the room. It may have been removed. The day outside was warm and the room uncomfortably warm. I've never done this, but this time I asked to be moved to another room. The desk clerk was responsive and assigned me a room in the upper, newer section. It was as comfortable as the one I had the first stay 2 years ago. So, I recommend this hotel with reservations: if you are booking a room, ensure that you are assigned a room in the newer section, rooms 35 and up. it will prove equal to a mid-range chain hotel. Avoid the older section.

If you like the charm and the laid back social vibe that's needed to "Hideaway" then this is what you're looking for. The noise or the weird noisy nonsense that's a part of a larger motel, that's not a thing here. There are social spaces and larger rooms on the opposite side of the rentals that are there if you need to have it, but they're largely quiet and they're perfect if you're in the area to visit your family here or bring a small group to have the extra room to talk about things. As for the rooms, they're practically spotless. They are also large and very clean, because the owner makes it a point for them to be that way. And honestly, from my own travel experiences you'd probably be paying more for that than you would elsewhere - they'd charge a premium for these, but the prices here are lower than what you'd get for the same thing elsewhere. The rooms include a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and a good WiFi connection. There is no extra cost for those, and they're the type of things I worry about when I feel like I'm away from home. Besides that, there's a bar here with a friendly atmosphere. You'll see a mix of both guests that stop by to rent rooms, and locals that come in to relax after a long day's worth of work.

This would be one of those moments where you don't judge a book by the cover. We were greeted very well by the owner who was super accommodating. We got checked in and were shown to our room. This lodging facility appears to have been a military style or medical style housing facility. They did a great job converting to a single or double occupancy facility. The room was very large and spacious. Present in our room was what appeared to be a California King size bed. The mattress was a little more firm then we were used to but not uncomfortable and slept well. The room was broken up with the shower on one side and the lavatory on the other. Amenities were simple and personable. The bar on site is fully stocked to your pleasure. Food wise your choices are limited in the hotel but the restaurant across the street can fill the void. I appreciate the the friendly conversation and accommodations provided. It will certainly warrant a return visit if and when we are in the area again.

So glad we finally did. We stayed in the White Oak Treehouse and it was solid. Such a cool experience being up in the trees but still completely comfortable. Clean, cozy, and everything worked the way it should. Peaceful without feeling rough or overly rustic. We made use of the fire pit and the grill, which really added to the stay. Sitting outside near the treehouse in the evening, surrounded by trees, felt incredibly private. Honestly, I think the White Oak is probably the most private rental on the property. It's in the middle of so many great trails. Garden of the Gods, Rim Rock, and Pounds Hollow are all close by. Just a note......Pounds Hollow is only accessible to foot traffic from December through mid-March. We spotted a bald eagle, heard coyotes at night, and I got to sit on the porch with coffee listening to a rooster crow somewhere in the distance (no roosters on site, which made it even funnier). The staff are great and very responsive. From booking to check-in, it's been a really pleasant experience. I received a gift card for my birthday...just a heads up, if you're using a gift card you'll need to call the office to make your reservation so they can apply it. Otherwise, you can book directly on their website. The outpost where you check in has tons of resources for hiking and trails, plus a lot of other helpful amenities. There were also a couple of sweet surprise kitty visitors during our stay, which just added to the charm. This has been a really great stay. Would absolutely come back.
