For 2 of us, paid $30 total for one night for a tent site (tent sites are in the strip of land across the road from the main office). The tent site was much better than I thought. 1. only 3 parties there in a very large area reserved for tent only camping, we were very spread out and it was pretty peaceful 2. camp site right next to a beautiful creek! 3. had electric outlets and tap faucet right next to the tent site. We didn't bring anything that could be plugged into an outlet but thinking in the future I could be sitting in a hammock and watching a movie on my laptop while being charged 4. camp site didn't have a fire pit or an obvious hole in the ground where you make your fire safely but we were out climbing very late and too tired to make a fire anyways when we got back. Lots of fallen branches you can collect to make a fire. The other 2 parties had built fires, didn't see how they did it. 5. the shower house closest to the main offices had large showers which were in decent level of cleanliness, paper towels kept running out though so bring your own Overall, very happy with this campground and will definitely come back in the future! A couple of things I noticed (1) the area where RV's are parked looked pretty crowded and also loud (2) I don't think I saw anyone else wearing masks around the campground, even when a lot of people were going in and out of the office. The 2 of us may be the only ones wearing masks there, when going into the office and using the bathroom

Since then there have been a lot of changes under the management of the new owners!!! The new owners have done a terrific job updating and cleaning up the property in just a short 6 months. They have remodeled cabins, painted the bath houses and pavilions, reinforced and painted the playground and fixed the roads that lead to each of the 3 levels of the grounds. That's just the beginning of what they have in store for upcoming seasons. It has been so much fun meeting new people who have been so kind and friendly!! We've had numerous gatherings at the main pavilion with live music, food, games and hay rides!!! 4th of July weekend they put on a fireworks display and at Halloween a Trunk or Treat for the kids!!! They offer different experiences depending on which choice of sleeping accommodations you choose. There are themed suites, a large two story tree house, and owners Clay and Dave were very hospitable, and the accommodations are spotlessly clean. An assortment of fresh fruit, French toast, and pancakes, bacon and sausages were served for breakfast. There are expansions in progress including a Taxidermy Museum and a Bakery / Coffee Shop. It is located just two miles from Ricketts Glen State Park, which features incredible hiking on well maintained trails, with some spots that are very challenging. There are 21 very good waterfalls that can be accessed from the lower area of the park, and from the upper area. Ricketts Glen is one of the best and most beautiful State Parks I've been in. Just a few miles away from Rickets Glen is Sullivan Falls, another incredible hike with several beautiful waterfalls. If you come to this area, you probably should spend 3 to 4 days to see it all.

I had the chance to try out Pioneer Campground over Memorial Day weekend. We ended up renting two…read morecampsites, one of which had electric and one which was primitive. The site numbers were 86 and 87. The sites are pretty close to one another, which is good if you're going with a group of people - you'll never be too far away from one another. It's not so good when you are located next to a group of college kids who can't figure out how to start a fire, or who play dance music when you're trying to relax. The electricity on our site was on the fritz when we first arrived, but the owner remedied that problem extremely quickly. Another good "customer service" experience at this campground was that the ice and firewood were both readily accessible and you could take things as you needed them and pay later. I also liked that there was a pool here and some on-site activities (for kids especially). What I did not like was that the bathrooms were located at the center of the camp, connected to the office and store. There were only two showers in said bathrooms, and the one closest to the door had absolutely zero water pressure; I couldn't get the soap off my body. I found out a day later that the shower further from the door actually did have decent water pressure, so that ended up working out alright. If you need to use the bathroom and can't walk/don't want to walk all the way to the center of the grounds, you can use a port-a-potty instead. I have to say, though, I just couldn't get used to them. It was gross (even though I did see it get emptied every single day), and there were spiders and creepy crawlies living in it every time I went to go use it. There's nothing like trying to hover above the toilet seat while simultaneously avoiding spiders crawling around you. There are water spouts every few camp sites, so we could clean our dishes that way. Overall this was a perfectly acceptable place to camp over Memorial Day weekend when all of the state parks were booked up with campers. I wish it was closer to World's End or Ricketts Glen, because we had to drive a solid thirty minutes to reach a nice hiking ground.

While it was…read morepouring down rain I had to move my vehicle, I temporarily parked in a grassy spot, which is right next to our campsite. The owner, in a very demeaning manner, yelled at me to move my vehicle. Let me say, I am a woman. So, he made me very upset, I was shaking, his voice was loud and nasty. As I'm shaking, I'm trying to move my vehicle, obviously it gets stuck, and as he stands there giving me a nasty look, does not offer to help, but stands there with his "friend" and spoke nasty. Thankfully a camper from a near campsite came over to help. Another incident in the same weekend...... My husband and our children were in the community pool. The owner's son was loudly making fun on them and swearing. Let's just say favoritism at its best! And another FYI..... Don't be near the road when the owner is driving around in his golf cart!! He drives faster in that than a vehicle will be allowed to drive through here. And don't ask to have your black tank emptied in a timely manner, campers near us had to wait 2 days to get emptied!

Softer than wool but just as warm. Our guide was super hospitable, he opened the doors for us to have a picnic because it was too cold outside. He was very informative and really nice.
