We were in the top room of the castle, which came with two comfy beds (which we pushed together), and its own bathroom. It was a big spacious room, but we really only just slept there. The breakfast was a big, full, delicious breakfast. I went with the Castle Breakfast each morning. It came with bacon (theirs was kinda between ham and bacon for us in the US), a big sausage, a half a tomato, a big, buttery fungus ("field mushroom"), an egg, and a cup of beans. Oh, and a Lavercake. Can't forget the Lavercake. This is a Welsh thing. It's kind of a little ball of dense grains. Almost like a bran muffin, I guess. I like trying new things when I travel, and while the Lavercake wasn't my favorite, I ate them every day, cause you can't get them in the US (not that I've ever seen, anyway). The meats, egg, and fungus were all delicious. And seriously, that tomato was excellent. I definitely didn't expect to enjoy a TOMATO with my breakfast as much as I enjoyed this one, but no joke, it was really good. My wife isn't big on the breakfast meats, so she opted for the Castle Veggie Breakfast. She liked it a lot. One of the days, we tried the French Toast, and that was really good too. The breakfasts also came with access to a variety of croissants, juices, honey and jellys. Oh, and the view out the restaurant window was gorgeous. We watched the sunrise on the other side of the river. For guests staying at the castle, there's a gated parking area in the back. There's also a pretty park area you can walk around, and lots of other interesting places to explore. Unfortunately, the museum part of the castle itself was closed when we stayed there, but we still had a great time and would absolutely recommend a Cardigan Castle. The food was excellent, the staff and service were extremely friendly and helpful. We absolutely loved everything about the Cardigan Castle, and would absolutely recommend visiting if you are ever fortunate enough to be in Cardigan.

Cardigan Castle sits in an impressive position, guarding the ancient bridge over the River Teifi,…read moreand encompasses 900 years of history, but has only been open to the public since its restoration, completed in 2015. Initially built in wood by the invading Normans (replacing one a mile away built in 1093), it was captured and burned in 1166 by Rhys ap Gruffydd, who rebuilt it in stone - supposedly the first stone castle built by a Welshman. To celebrate its completion, he held what is supposed to be the first national festival of poetry and song in Wales - now regarded as the first Eisteddfod. Regained by the English King John in 1197, it fell into Welsh hands again in 1215, and after changing hands several more times, it was finally gained permanently by Earl Gilbert of Pembroke in 1244. He rebuilt the castle and added town walls, and it is these remains which form the basis of the castle today. The castle played a part in the Civil War in the 17th Century, after which its defences were permanently slighted by the victorious Parliamentarians. The townspeople subsequently removed much of the walls as building material for their own homes. The Castle itself then settled down to a quieter life as a domestic residence, and a Regency house was built on the site in the early 19th century. This survives today as Castle Green House. The castle was also fortified during the second world war with a pill box. After the war, the Castle remained a domestic dwelling, but gradually fell into disrepair. After its last owner departed, a local campaign resulted in its full restoration in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Today, it is possible to see elements from all of the earlier periods, including cannon damage from the Civil War, although the only tangible remains of the early mediaeval castle is a tower at the back of Castle Green house. So, essentially, the castle now forms a walled park with museum and restaurant, in the middle of the town. Entrance is £7 for adults, but the ticket can be used to access the grounds or year. There is a play area for children, and a lovely Kitchen Garden. The main lawn in front of Castle Green house is used for public events, concerts etc. There is also a restaurant, which is open for breakfasts and lunches - see separate entry under Cegin 1176. Accommodation is also available for those who wish to stay here. There is a shop selling souvenirs and Welsh woollen blankets, and beneath the restaurant a delicatessen. There is no dedicated car park, so anyone arriving by car will need to park elsewhere in the town.

We stayed in Begelly recently during a touring trip in the campervan. We dropped in after a long…read moredrive to the nearby caravan site and found it to be a very pleasant place to get dinner. First the Ale - its a freehouse but at the time of our visit predominantly stocked Sharps beer (of Doombar fame). I fancied a pint of stout (Brains Black), and followed with a Sharps Rev James. Both were excellent, clearly kept well. We ate dinner in the restaurant area, which is a slightly strange arrangement - we were directed (not shown) to our table by the barman, and given menus to take with us. The menu has a big selection including some traditional Welsh dishes and a kids section. We opted for lasagne, cod & chips, ham and egg, and a kids pizza (which comes with potatoes and beans). All were big portions, and very reasonably priced. The bill came to £40 including my drinks, an pint of larger and fuzzy drinks for the kids. We paid at the till on the way out. By the way, the pub has a large car park that will easily accommodate motor homes or camper vans, and there is also a public bar with a pool table. We will be visiting again.

Well we were stunned when we walked in, very tasteful, comfortable and elegant were our first thoughts. So much attention to detail we couldn't stop looking round and taking it all in. The staff were very warm and friendly, as the Welsh generally are, and made us feel at home. When we finally sat down to eat our meal in the light airy and spacious dining room we were very relaxed, happy and spoilt. But things were about to get better once we tasted our food. All the veg comes from their own organic garden and the lamb that most of us chose as our main comes from the salt marsh in the surrounding area, we'd never tasted anything like it. The meal was very good quality for normal restaurant prices and so was the wine and locally brewed real ales. Most of us had 2 courses and 2 drinks so the average price worked out at £25 per head. The toilets were clean and beautifully done and i was very impressed with the Ren smellies girls like these indulgences when they wash their hands. We relaxed in the bar with some baileys on ice and a lovely warm fire. What a perfect evening. We asked to see the rooms and were so happy decided to come back with some family and stay for a night as an indulgence. We stayed mid week as it was cheaper £150 a night and with that came champagne on arrival, bed, breakfast and afternoon tea, which i strongly reccomend arriving early for. We wanted to make the most our stay so arrived about 2.30pm we had champagne whilst admiring our beautifully decorated rooms and then went across for afternoon tea which consisted of, tea, coffee, mini scones with cream, welsh cakes, sandwiches and other slices of delicious cake. Full and happy we admired the building once more and relaxed in the comfortable bar. We then went back to our rooms to change and sat down for dinner at about 7pm. Again we had a wonderful meal a few drinks and retired to our rooms, which we wanted to spend time in as they were also lovely. In the morning we had a delicious Welsh breakfast with loads of tea and sadly left our fabulous little retreat in this beautiful part of Wales. If theres one place you must come in your lifetime its here, we all thoroughly enjoyed it and the village of Laugharne down the road is also well worth the visit also, if not for its famous heritage as the poet Dylan Thomas's piece of Wales but for its sheer beauty.

We were visiting our aunt in Wales and we decided to stay at this hotel. We are a demanding family…read moreof four so we did give it a good workout :) Initial correspondence was through email and the receptionists dealt with most enquiries fabulously, there were a couple of occasions whereby questions were not answered fully or were completely ingnored. We arrived in the pouring rain (this didnt change much over our stay). We checked in which went smoothly and were shown to our rooms. Initially we thought they were fab then realised that there were no wardrobes or indeed any storage space in either of the rooms; only one tiny bin in the bathroom, which was very nice but could have done with a bigger bath as there was plenty of space, and no fridge. Oh and our TV did not work even when the batteries in the remote were changed twice within the week. Anyway we met up with our aunt and her family that evening and we decided to eat at the restaurant at Hurst House. There were two menus, the daily and the a la carte. Neither menu was fantastic but they were adequate. Within our party there was a gluten free menu and a complicated vegetarian menu. The staff had been told well in advance but nothing was said to us about our choices and I had to make a fuss. Anyway the meal was fine and everyone enjoyed what they had. We went to bed but didnt sleep much. Breakfast the following morning and the hotel had made no effort to aquire gluten free bread or sausages for breakfast, which was disappointing but as always had taken some bread with me. There was no options for our daughter to have a cooked breakfast either as there were no Quorn options to replace the sausages etc. Breakfast service throughout the week was very slow if you wanted hot drinks or hot food or indeed if the juice needed refilling. There didn't seem to be anyone looking out for items running out and replacing before the event which meant that a guest had to specifically track someone down to sort things out. Over the week the reception staff and a couple of the staff in the restuarant helped to make the week fantastic. However food did get put on our bill from another table and spelling mistakes on the bill ie cawliflower and exhebition, together with some staff who gave the impression that they were working under sufferance, together with having to keep asking for toiletries to be replaced did put a bit of a dampener on it. There is a small gym with state of the art equipment, bike, rower, running and eliptical machines, the spa was lovely but with only two therapists and two rooms that did not work together it meant that we had to have treatments after each other and not at the same time which was a shame. The therapists used elemental herbology products which were lovely but the room got really cold and the therapist didnt check with me how I was doing or if I needed a blanket etc. She did ask if I wanted water after making her jump whilst having a coughing fit. Included in the price of the room is afternoon tea but again this was disappointing from a gluten free point of view. There was nothing for me to eat and only a couple of cakes for our vegetarian. The boys enjoyed the nibbles and the tea, coffee and juice were lovely. The reception staff were given a list of adventures to book for us and all credit to them, fitted everything in for us in the time we had, we had to cancel the paintballing because the rain was coming across the beach horizontally, but that was our choice and not the organisers. We tried land yachting which was amazing but boy did the muscles hurt the next day? The girls tried horse riding and only one of the riders got bounced and had to hang on for dear life whilst the other laughed :) The boys tried coasteering and whilst they were both dubious to start off with loved it and the challenges that came with it. They both show the grazes and cuts as if they were trophies of their time. All in all our time at Hurst House was lovely but their is still room for improvement.. We would having said all the above, go back to stay :)

Food all really quite good value for the quality! Very pretty place, gardens and things, pet-friendly rooms available (there are garden rooms which are like little cottages). The only let-down was the continental breakfast not much choice at all (although the croissants were lovely and fresh/warm) and just lacking in thought the only bowls available were massive ones (not great since there were cereal boxes and yoghurt that you would naturally take a small bowl for!) and there were a bunch of juices in jugs but no water! Annoying thing to have to ask for. All tea/coffee/toast on request though :-) However the cooked food was fantastic and their ingredients are all locally sourced/free range etc. Would definitely recommend and may well go back (even though it's right on the edge of the country and soooo far away!)

Steve and Orla had a dream and now this B&B is the result and it is beautiful…read more The four rooms are luxurious and comfy, the food is great, the location is good, the owners are lovely :-) They go out of their way to please their guests with enormous hospitality and very comfortable completely newly built rooms (most of the building done by themselves). For breakfast they offer a tasty choice far beyond the usual Full English. We loved the fresh home baked cake for us to take whenever we wanted. St Davids being a really small place and accommodations filling up easily make sure to book ahead. There is not a lot of parking space in town so it is very convenient that the B&B has its own parking space.

Breakfast served on Denby plates, etc was cereal, followed by your choice from the menu (good choice amount), toast with jam/marmalade, tea/coffee, fruit was also on the table. You were allowed to take your key with you when leaving the premises. They have a folder telling all about themselves, what's in the area, also emergency contact numbers. The weather was wet & blowfly to go to the nearest pub so husband asked if okay to have some cans of lager in the sitting area, no problems. Would definitely recommend to people visiting the area. Sadie & Nigel Taylor run a working farm in NARBETH (The search engine could not find Narbeth when registering here, but found Haverfordwest?), which includes B & B, it is a 3 Welsh star standard. This was bought as a Anniversary present for my husband, but to share, decided it would be nice to stay elsewhere, not with relatives who live nearby. I have put 3 stars, however I have as yet not actually stayed there, but will be this weekend, then I will update.

We were not disappointed, and while this is not a ultra modern house it is very comfortable and cosy. All in all the whole experience was excellent and I would recommend this place to anyone, older people to children alike.
