Botega Rotolo is a really good Italian/gourmet food store in Norwood…read more It is tucked away a bit, in an unobtrusive building on Osmond terrace which at first glance almost could pass as an accountant's office. Inside there are stacks of pastas, preserves, oils and vineagars and of course, fancy imported wine and cheese in which they specialize. In addition to functioning as a gourmet food store, Botega Rotolo also offer cooking classes at which one can be initiated into the cooking secrets of the Italian masters (like garlic is for slow cooking and onions for fast cooking and never the twain shall meet). The quality of the produce here is high and things are certainly not cheap, but it is quite good value considering what you are paying for.

Bottega Rotolo's cheese room is undoubtedly the best I've ever experienced. There's something…read moredecadent about those huge wheels of cheese. Maybe its not so much decadence as it is my arteries hardening at the thought of all that cheese but let's forget my arteries momentarily and talk cheese! As well as locally produced cheeses, their cheese room stocks products from Italy, France and Spain and those using a variety of milks and ingredients. Soft cheese, hard cheese, blue cheese, any cheese ... Don't let me give you the wrong idea though, Bottega Rotolo is not only about cheese. Just go inside and you'll find foods you never dreamed existed unless of course you're already a gourmet chef. If you are (or you're a chef in the making) and you're in the market for some couverture chocolate, Italian sparkling wine, truffles, imported pasta, or a spot of caviar - is your mouth watering yet - pay Connie and Rosalie a visit. Bottega Rotolo also hold their own cooking classes. After all what's the use of having all those ingredients if you don't know what to do with them. Their classes include everything from total hands on experiences to demonstrations as well as a combination of the two. They issue a new calendar of classes every couple of months and most are priced at $95. Located on Osmond Terrace at Norwood just before you get to the Oriental Hotel. In fact if you get to the Oriental, you've gone too far. Look for the famous Bottega "B" on their sign.

I'll come out and admit, I'm a little turned on by a packed display of meat and antipasto offerings…read morein a chilled glass cabinet and this was what made me first fall for the City East IGA. Combine that with a consistently well stocked fruit and veg cabinet, fresh Kitchenhand Salads and Prepacked Gluten Free meals by Enzos this place is my go-to supermarket if I have had "one of those weekends," and haven't gotten a chance to go to Foodland. It's open late - even at the time of the evening when you're just starting to decide you might want a little bit of late night chocolate or gelati - this place will cater for you. I'm a big fan of their falafels which they get from Abdul's Kitchen but sometimes these are not as fresh as I would like. Even better is that this IGA has some of the friendliest staff around, particularly for check out chicks!

I preferred to do most of my shopping at the Central Markets, as it was vastly cheaper, but they aren't open every day. Which brings me to the big winning point of IGAs, including this one. Opening hours. Despite their slightly higher prices, they manage to compete by being open later at night on weekdays and weekends. Each IGA is slightly different, and this one is quite vastly different to the IGA at the other end of Hutt St. This one is on the up-market side, stocking a wide range of gourmet products. The City East deli stocks a range of cakes, pastas, salads, quiches and antipasto. In the fridges you can pick up pre-made meals from a range of local producers. I used to keep my eye on the discount fridge, where deli products went to die. The fruit and veg section isn't awful, but pricier than most. There is a rudimentary few aisles of basic home needs like toilet paper and light bulbs. Next to the regular tinned veg and pasta section is a little stand with fancier Italian products - nice sauces and egg pastas. In the icecream freezer you'll find the Maggie Beer range. Not a bad supermarket all round, and I'm sure it hits the target market of young professionals or wealthier types living in the city.

One of my main call cards for Norwood is to get my shopping done at yet another amazing Foodland…read more Now, this particular Foodland is one of the biggest of the Romeo Group. Set in the heart of Norwood shopping district and with a huge fan base, this groceries store has everything to offer. You are greeted at the entry by the large Deli section, fully stocked with the most amazing cheeses, meats, salads, roast chickens and seafood. All the produce is fresh and ready to be packaged up for you to take home. The staffs in the deli section are always busy! You will need to reach for a number as I almost guarantee you will need to wait your turn. They are happy for you to try different sliced meats and olives, so do not hesitate to ask to assist with your decision. As for the fruit and veg, it is generally well priced and fresh. You will find a good organic produce section here with a larger than normal. The fruit and veg are always arranged quite neatly and during the busy periods you will find staff constantly re-stocking. Like most Romeo Foodlands, you will find a very diverse range of products from around the world and a lot of locally sourced goods. They are very South Australian proud and I have found the most amazing local products here. One thing to mention about this store is the amazing bakery section. The bread, rolls, pastries and cakes are all of very high quality and are baked daily. You will find all different types of sourdoughs, rye, baguettes, pizzas, loafs, etc... I absolutely love the rye rolls here! Goes down well with cream cheese from the deli, avocado and Hahndorf Harris Smoked Salmon from the fridge section. Thanks Romeos for supporting South Australia!

On the afternoon I last visited the cafe the airy, stylish, and modern dining area was flooded with natural light. I am fond of sitting on the reading nook (corner sofas) with a nice coffee after my meals to take in the efficiency with which the staff work, people watch, and savour the experience. I had tender and wonderfully spiced pulled pork atop a crisp bed if mixed veggies. It was filling and wonderful, though a bit on the pricey side at $17 for the serve. The selection of desserts are fabulous and flawlessly fresh. Always save room for desserts here!

The coffee beans here are bang on and it's brewed the right temperature. The crockery is all quite cool and trendy. Love the gold cutlery as well! I haven't eaten here yet. But the menu and salads look delish! A little more costly. But, very good quality from what I can see. You pay for what you get. I have eaten cake and slices here. All are the healthier style with nut blends and coconut butters. Last time I had the flourless chocolate cake. Very rich, tasty, not sweet and fulfilling for my 3pm munchies. Do stop in if you need nourishment in Magill. I would say this is the trendiest place in this area.

How does a carob and black tahini mylk sound? Or a spiced almond and cashew milk with the added super powers of cacao and maca (who cares what the health properties are, it's damn delicious!) Juice Bureau is run by the Argo crew up the road, and they seem to know what they're doing. Their trendy and tiny little shop has a flower ceiling and good looking healthy staff who can tell you the ins and outs of each of their nut mylks, and juices. There's dozens of styles to choose from, but I was particularly impressed that they have a number of sugar free options, including some sweetened with rice malt syrup rather than the usual dates, which isn't so great for people like me who try and avoid fruit sugar as much as possible. The packaging is stylish and you can try loads of flavours before deciding on your choice. They'll also organise a one day juice cleanse package if you're feeling like you need to rid your body of the evils of too much booze and rich food. Or, you know, if you just want to feel extra virtuous by sucking down green juice six times a day.

A delightful little store nestled amongst the busy Parade shopping district; Juice Bureau offers a great selection of cold pressed juices. Cold pressed juices are really amazing and so much more flavoursome than other kinds. They are reviving and if you are going for the greener kind, are giving your body what it needs in minerals and vitamins. The selection at this store is quite wide. Check out their menu to see what will soon be sold in this store. They are fairly new and are testing their series, but I see growth here, especially as a local producer. My favourite in this store by far has to be the Cherry Ripe. Fresh black cherries, cacao, almond milk & dates. In fact, I rather have this version than the bar kind! The store is decorated with a vast arrangement of flowers on the ceiling, just making it feel warm and inviting. You kind of want to just hang out in it for an hour or two trying all of the varieties of juices. But alas, the store is too small. I look forward to see their range and client base grow. This is a winner Argo!
