Best pool in Marin! I'm a swimmer and they keep the outdoor pool at a perfect temperature. Always a great swim. They could make the showers bigger and the women's locker room a bit cushier. It's a bit too far for a regular gym/pool for me unfortunately. I still go on occasion for a good swim and get a day pass. I'd go more often if the day pass was less. read more

The JCC is awesome. It's a massive effort to keep a huge and busy facility like the J running smoothly.... but somehow they make it look easy. All the staff are wonderful and the facility is sparkling clean. Speaking of operations, one person in particular, Vern, is just the most wonderful human being. His leadership adds so much to the feeling of community. He knows my whole family and went above and beyond to help my Dad who was a JCC member, before he passed away. I love the JCC. A+ read more

Reviewing the infant/toddler swim lessons. My child is really enjoying these lessons, which are mostly a water acclimation and basic body positioning in the pool class. I think kids seeing other kids doing things makes it less intimidating than if they were going by themselves. Already my child is more comfortable going under water in the pool of having face splashed with water in the shower. Great option for local Marin parents interested in getting some toddler water exposure. read more

I have been a member for 19 years and and while I admit the gym has seen better days...hey, the place is aging (the showers sometimes get really hot) and the locker rooms are too small and can get very crowded. I wish they would update their machines, perhaps renting them instead of buying them. I find the management inconsistent, but I have to point out certain employees. Downstairs, Vern and Mary are both pleasant and hardworking. Upstairs, David keeps an eye on the gym, cleans the machines and is quite helpful. Christine is very dedicated to the excellent swim program. And Alyssa does a good job and is very approachable. read more

This place offers many summer events, this is my first time coming to this place. This place has everything from indoor swimming to out door as well as a gym but the highlight is the summer events, there are different group ages and kid friendly. There is a child play area so it makes it nice to enjoy the music while also watching the Kids. There is not much variety of food to choose from, At least that day. I should say though that there was the Hawaiian Chicken or pork and a desert table with coffee. A Bar with variety of alcoholic beverages. Do bring lawn chairs but if unable to there are picnic tables as well as folding chairs, I did notice that people brought their own food. No Alcohol from outside is allowed just thought I point that out. Overall I had a good experience and would definitely come back for their next summer night event read more

I recently won a Ticket to the Osher Marin JCC - Summer Nights Outdoor Music Festival . The Night that I won was Hawaiian Performers Henry Kapono and Special Guest Johnny Valentine - Bruno Mars Uncle . The Day of the Concert , I hopped into my Vette and rolled to the Osher Marin JCC . When I arrived there was plenty of Free parking in their huge lot. I picked up my Ticket at Will Call and went thru the Security Check Point . They are pretty Efficient . The Concert Venue is quite nice and intimate . Its in the JCC Rear Gated Playground . There were two Bar Tents selling Booze , A Snack Bar selling Sodas and Snacks. Mauna Loa Hawaiian BBQ had a Tent also Setup - Selling Hawaiian BBQ Plate Lunch's . Trips For Kids - had a Fun Zone setup for the Kids Henry Kapono and his Special Guest Johnny Valentine treated us to 2 one hour sets of Hawaiian Folk and Funk Music . They even did a Encore set of songs. These Concert Events are Family Friendly . The Osher Marin JCC - Summer Nights Outdoor Music Festival Is a Baller On A Budget Approved Event !!! If I could give this place a 0 I would. I don't recommend anyone this place. They were all really rude and gave TERRIBLE service. My sister had her quince there and The workers at the front were yelling at people to telling them to leave when the party BARELY ended. We were supposed to leave at 11pm and they started yelling people at 10:50pm to get out VERY RUDELY?When people kept coming in and out they kept yelling rudely to show their wristbands. There was an incident where I had family coming in at 7:30-8:00pm because they were getting out of work and the workers said how they couldn't come in since they were out of wristbands? I was furious and told them it was my family and they did not care and said they weren't letting them in. I had to call the upper management to try to talk to them and they ended up listening and gave them the wristbands. I don't know why they would lie about something like that when they had it the whole time they just didn't want to let them In. How DARE they not let my family come in when we PAID KEY WORDS PAIDDD for this event? But i can guarantee you that if they were in my position they would feel the exact same way. The two ladies in the office were very very and I mean VERY rude. They don't know how to properly to talk to people and don't have any customer service. They were yelling at us like if we were little kids and had 0 respect for us. I'm embarrassed because I work in the customer service field and I would NEVER talk to people like that. If you don't want to get treated badly and actually have a memorable experience please do not come here. It was my sister special day and we all felt like we were just being treated like if we were NOTHING. If management is reading this please retrain or fire the workers in the front office. Please train them to be decent human beings. Also side note i understand we could've been at capacity but it's not fair to count young kids that aren't even gonna be sitting down or get a full plate of food. On top of that when people were leaving they still counted as if they were there. It's extremely disrespectful because they clearly saw them leaving and couldn't replace them with the people that wanted to come in and yelling at us if we were animals? You guys ruined the experience to us and to the other invited people that weren't able to celebrate with us. read more

Facilities are well maintained, and the locker rooms are large with lots of locker space. The front desk staff at the front door and the third floor and helpful and knowledgeable. Classes are offered to members as well as nonmembers, and even for nonmembers, I think the fees are reasonable. The workout equipment functions, and the workout areas are clean. There's an indoor pool, jacuzzi, and an outdoor pool. These areas are also faile There are 2 main cons about the JCC: 1) Lack of infant-friendly facilities and 2) Packed parking lot. I enrolled my son in swimming lessons when he was 6 months old, and the women's changing room offers no safe baby-changing tables or counters. You're then stuck trying to change your baby on benches that people sit on, so you're having to bend down and risk someone accidentally placing something on top of your baby. Although there is a "family" locker room, signage states the room should be for use with kids who are at least 5 years old. I would use this room on occasion, and there is a small counter where you could change a baby, but there isn't any padding like at other businesses that offer swim lessons for infants. Parking is normally not great. My son's swimming lessons are on Mondays, and I've had to drive around for 10-15 mins before finding a spot. It may not be a big dealbreaker for others if you have to park along the street or in the unpaved lot, but if you have an infant in a stroller or are an individual who needs to be able to park more closely to the entrance, finding parking can be frustrating. Lastly, I wish membership pricing was published or posted at the JCC and was somehow more readily available, as I had to ask for details at the front desk when other guests are coming in and out and being greeted at the same time I'm trying to get information. read more

The Marin JCC swim program is awesome! Both my 3 & 4 yr old taking group lessons there. The instructors are very experienced and great with young kids new to swimming and more experienced swimmers improving their skills as well. The pool is indoors so great for all seasons and heated to a very warm temp to make sure the littles don't get cold! At another outdoor pool we tried previously, my little guy's lips were blue by the end and he was complaining of being cold and we had to get him a wetsuit! I've seen incredible improvement in just a few lessons and we practice at home in our hot tub too. Really really pleased with the quality. We started w/ just 1 day/wk to try it out and now we're doing 3 days and also getting adult lessons for our nanny! Very happy swimmers and will be doing lessons here for years to come! I've just joined here and I'm really loving it. It's relaxed and comfortable but also has all the equipment I want.

I joined the JCC after several years at another facility, and I have to say they have a superior aquatics program here. Everything is always clean, with the exception of the private dressing rooms from time to time, and that's only because the people who use them don't clean up after themselves; they expect the "girl" to do it. Everyone is friendly, and accommodating to any special needs. The only drawback is when a family tries to use the outdoor pool for swimming; the hard core swimmers get peeved when asked to move from the family lane. read more

I was a member at the JCC for the required 6 months. I was interested in the morning group classes and some swimming lessons. I was very disappointed with the club. The classes are uninspired and taught almost exclusively by one instructor. Swim lessons were not offered at any normal times. The clientele that goes there doesn't seem very open to new people. I had very few people make an effort to speak with me. It was a disappointing experience from beginning to end. read more

I took a tour and used one of the 3 free passes they give you before you join. First of all, at 10 a.m. on a weekday the whole place was jam packed. I can't imagine what it must look like after work. I tried the indoor pool and it was stressful. A woman was giving swim lessons to babies in diapers. I'm from the era, like 10 years ago, when babies were not allowed in adult swimming pools, for obvious reasons. It was crowded and I kept twisting and turning to avoid bumping into people, and ended up pulling a muscle in my leg. The women's locker room doesn't have nice towels and it's crowded--at 10 a.m. It's very expensive and I wonder where the money is going. read more

I posted a review at the end of August during my trial period, but will now share my experiences after 3 months here: PROS: -Super friendly and helpful staff -Awesome outdoor AND indoor pool with jacuzzi/hot tub. Steamroom and dry sauna also available, but I haven't used them yet. -Beautiful and CLEAN facility, includes fitness center, conference rooms, cafe and general downstairs lobby. -Spa services (massages/facials) are available through the fitness center. -The JCC hosts many events, and is a well-spring of knowledge for Jewish life (you don't have to be Jewish to participate). Everyone is welcome. CONS: -Parking can be difficult, since the lot is shared with the Brandeis School (K-8) and the temple on-site. Best not to arrive when school is getting out (2:30-3pm) -Many fitness classes are during the day, and not conveniently timed for people who have to work 9-5. (This is the same for the YMCA). -Fitness center can be crowded at times (but the YMCA even more so) read more

My husband and I joined the JCC in 2020 when the pandemic meant we had more free time. What a fabulous place it is. Late in life this place has allowed me to become a lap swimmer and it has transformed my life. If the pool was heavily chlorined, like most pools, I wouldn't want to use it but the salt water means no burning eyes or green hair. The other facilities are perfect, the gym, the spa, steam room, etc. Great place to take the grandkids when they visit as there is a ping pong table and a basketball gym which they love. Welcoming staff. The members I interact with in the pool, locker room, spa, etc. are so friendly. I enjoy the community vibe that is such a big part of the place. When I am walking out to my car after each visit I find myself feeling grateful for the JCC. read more

Best gym I've been to in a long time! The facility is always super clean and busy, yet not too crowded that you can't get your workout in. I usually go just to swim and I have never had a problem sharing a lane, or on a good day I am lucky enough to have my own lane. The lifeguards are super nice and always willing to help out the patrons. I highly recommend the Masters swim program through the JCC and Shari the coach is so nice and will give you tips to help out your stroke. Right from the start the staff at the JCC was amazing and helped to get me set up. They called me a few weeks in to make sure I was happy and to ask if there was anything they could do to make my experience better. I have no complaints and I honestly look forward to my daily visits to the JCC! read more

The JCC is a wonderful gym with indoor & outdoor pool facilities. The people who work here are nice and helpful. My only real complaint has to do with the fact that when they ' upgraded' the machines the new machines no longer have fans. May not seem like a big deal but as for me I would rather avoid sweating. The JCC has great events for families, like for example the Puram Palooza, where kids get all kinds of games to play and things to make, while listening to music and learning about Jewish culture. read more

Helpful, friendly staff who know the JCC very well (I.e. can answer all your questions). I use the pools mostly and can say the aquatics staff is great. Lifeguards are attentive and professional. Age of patrons ranges from babies to over 80s. The cafe has great pastries, sandwiches soup and snacks. The overall atmosphere is very welcoming. read more

Attended the Summer Nights Outdoor Music festival with Henry Kapono and Johnny Valentine. Parking was (could have been) a little tricky, but we scored a great spot so it was no problem. This was indeed a very "blue haired" event, rife with all the entitlement one might expect that goes with it. That being said, queues were civil as was staking out a spot on the fake grass in front of the stage. Speaking of the fake grass: if you are attending the outdoor show, be warned that this stuff gets *hot* on a hot day, and keeps putting out heat even after the sun goes down. In theory it could burn bare feet, so take note. You can bring lawn chairs that do not have spikes and are not higher than 7" from the ground (and yes, they make you open it and measure it at the gate). The show was ok, not great. I didn't know who Henry Kapono was before I went and I was expecting/hoping for mellow Hawaiian, but what we got was more along the lines of laid-back Jimmy Buffet. I would have left earlier, but as we were seated in the front, it would have been obvious if picked up and bailed. I didn't want anyone to feel badly, so we stuck it out. Best part was the hula dancers who kicked off the show. Johnny was great, but clearly making a living off his association to his famous nephew. In his own, though, he has wonderful voice and is very easy on the ears. Again, as the average age there was ~65, it's what I would expect. read more

The JCC gym is a 3-star facility at best in my opinion. I'll tell you the reasons why: 1. The hours suck; they are geared more towards family with kids. So the gym is closed at 6 pm on Friday and only limited hours on the weekends. For me who has a 9-6 pm job and don't get up till 7 am in the morning, Friday after 6 pm and weekends are the best times to hit the gym and get long workout sessions but they are closed. I found the users of the gym a lot of retirees or maybe stay-at-home moms so the hours would work perfectly for them. 2. Locker room - The lockers are too small. And they "alledgedly" have a no-mobile phone policy at the locker room. Once I was looking at emails on my smartphone (not even talking on the phone), I got scolded by an elderly woman and told me to shut off my phone as she is "sensitive" to moble phone....Whatever... 3. Limited variety of weight machines: if you just want to do cardio like running, there are plenty of treadmills and eliptical machines. But if you want to work on different muscle groups, they don't have the variety of machines that, say, 24 Hour Fitness has. I could not do all of my workout routines there as they lack some of the machines needed. 4. The membership fees for singles are really expensive. I first joined because it was summer time and wanted to use their swimming pool. But given their limited hours it did not really work with my schedule so I ended up paying like $125 a month for using maybe once a month. 5. Parking - while they have pretty big parking lots, if you want to just go to the gym at the same time they have events/activities, you would likely find parking challenging. I mean, it's good that they host a variety of quality cultural events including celebrities keynotes speeches, concerts, camp, festivals, etc., but for pure gym goers that's probably not your criteria for looking for a gym to join. For the above reasons, after 6 months membership (the minimum required membership), I cancelled my membership. During that 6 months I probably went there less than 10 times...The people working there are really nice though and helpful. And the clientele using the gym in general are nice, friendly and respectful, people. They do keep the facilities clean including the shower room, locker room, steam room and sauna. Also they have a variety of group classes including yoga, cycling, pilate, and you can sign up for group or individual swimming or weight training classes, etc. I never went to any classes as the hours of the classes do not work for me and I already had my own trainer. read more

Not used to that and it's really nice people are nice and courteous and I love the lady that works weekdays she's so friendly the weekend girl is nice too . For several years we've engaged or attempted to engage various programs at JCC. The children's swim instructors are teriffic, but the administrative layer at the pre school, athletic programs, and anywhere else we've attempted to engage has been unpredictable and frustrating. I'm an exercise yo-yo. My fitness habits are exemplary of how to fail at an exercise regimen. ?: Ever felt motivated to join a health club? Check. ?: Ever buy a "package" of classes thinking that you'll use them up in a matter of days/weeks? Check. ?: Ever shop for a new exercise wardrobe to accompany this burst of fitness resolve? Check. It's only after the expiration of unused classes, the "shrinking" of the new wardrobe, and questioning the cost of a gym membership that only sees use once or twice a mon...I mean, week, that it's all-too-apparent I've fallen off the exercise wagon. I'm going to go out on a limb and theorize that I'm more the norm than the exception (at least, my waning ego would have me believe that). I joined the Osher Marin JCC roughly a year ago because everything seemed too good to be true. - Rates were cheap relative to the Bay Club, and they had comparable amenities; - They boast an indoor and an outdoor pool; - The entire complex was redone about two years ago; - The cultural events and other aspects/privileges of the JCC meant that I was getting more than just a gym membership; - It's family friendly, but they have separate adult locker rooms equipped with saunas; - Spin, yoga, meditation, core-strengthening, and Pilates classes are all included in the membership; - I look ripped relative to the Jewish grandmothers that I work out alongside (though they're ruthless and intimidating when it comes to nabbing a stationary bike); and - They even have a basketball court that also serves as a volleyball and gymnastics area. This was IT!! I had finally found a North Bay substitute for my beloved San Francisco Equinox and Sports Club LA. I was going to get in great shape (again) and keep fit in time for the Marin Triathlon in November. Sign me up! (aaaaand scene - fast forward 12 months to the present) "It's not you, it's me." I tell the sales rep. "I'm canceling my membership because...I...I'm moving. No, that's not true. I've just lost my motivation...Yes, your place is fine, really, it had nothing to do with it. Granted, the classes I wanted to take were never at a convenient time of the day for me. And, I kind of found it difficult to motivate when the only other people in the gym are twice my age...no, it didn't help that Edna could out bench me either. THAT had NOTHING to do with it. Edna's huge! Ok, so she's scary huge for an 80 year old woman, but she must be on roids...oh. She is? I didn't realize she was your wife, I'm sor...yes, well, please give her my best. We attended the Great Broadway Sing-A-long at the Kanbar Center courtesy of goldstar.com We were warmly welcomed at the will call table. The refreshment table had a great assortment of hot and cold drinks. There were also snacks available. The inside of the Kanbar Center was organized with chairs and tables. We sat in the fourth row with an excellent view of the stage. The show featured live piano accompaniament with three talented singers who performed solos as well as lead the audience in two hours of singing selections from musicals from the last 100 years. read more

Not worth your money in its current state. I have loved the JCC for years and when they get their act together will happily return! Currently they are doing performative cleaning and many of the staff routinely engage in unsafe practices like removing their mask to speak more clearly, touching their faces and then shared objects, or walking around with their noses uncovered. The facility is busy and it's difficult to maximize your membership but that's a reasonable negative in these times. What you should consider before you sign up is that, while the actual safety plan is solid, the staff are severely lacking and the visitors are generally careless. Give it a few months. The only good thing about this place is the warm indoor pool. However, it's usually super busy. Swim lessons are overcrowded. My kid sits on the steps most of the lesson. Its full of a bunch of judgy, crotchity old people giving the stink eye. For a place that offers some kids activities it is NOT very kid friendly. Lifeguards are very nice, tho. read more

I've hesitated to write a review for the JCC. Why? Purely selfish reasons: 1. I do not want more people to know about this place because it is the best gym in Marin County, by far. Very far. 2. I love the outside pool. I do not want to share my swimming lane with more swimmers regardless of how cute they look. 3. I am not part of the Tribe, and sometimes think of myself as not worthy. I am told this is a fault of my Gentile ways. I am still in recovery. My alliance to Yelp requires I let the public know my opinion. So, I shall be brief: Clean, quality service, loads of free weights, machines, two pools, steam, saunas, hot tub, basketball court, massages, cafe, tons of classes. Very family friendly. I think it's fair to say that most people recognize the Osher Marin JCC as a wonderful community center and exercise/swimming facility, and summer camp program for kids. But I think a lot of folks might be surprised to learn that the JCC also hosts a number of fabulous events and entertainment acts throughout the year. Everything from outdoor concerts to celebrity speakers to stand-up comedians. I came here recently to catch comedian Paula Poundstone perform in their Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts. It's a nice auditorium that can hold a pretty sizable audience. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. Even though we were in one of the last rows in the back, we had no problems seeing the stage. Tickets were surprisingly affordable - only $35 for general admission. Good luck trying to see a comedy show for that price in San Francisco (not including a 2-drink minimum). Before the show, you can purchase refreshments in the lobby and relax on the patio. The only thing I would kvetch about are the seats. They're just basic fold-up chairs with zero cushion. And there's very little leg room between rows. So if there's no intermission, you might get a little restless. But all in all, the Osher Marin JCC is a fabulous entertainment venue. I'd definitely recommend checking out their upcoming calendar! read more
