We had our wedding at The Oviatt in June 2026, and it was one of the best days of our lives. Not only is the venue stunning and unique in so many ways (all of which will be self-evident once you see it for yourself), but the staff are truly the best. Gabe, Lindsey, and Cami are so kind, helpful, organized, communicative, and on top of everything. We knew we were in good hands and, sure enough, the entire day ran seamlessly. One thing we especially loved was how well they accommodated our non-traditional timeline. The majority of our friends are dancers, so we made several timeline changes to maximize dancing and the overall party vibes. We had our 90 guests arrive directly into cocktail hour and kept everyone inside to explore the venue with drinks and small bites before opening the rooftop and having guests find their seats at their dinner tables. Since our ceremony was only about 15 minutes, we opted out of doing a room flip! We had our brief ceremony on the dance floor in front of the fountain, then released everyone to the dinner buffet while our immediate family joined us back inside for portraits. Afterward, we took our bride-and-groom portraits on the upper rooftop deck before returning to finish dinner. We had a couple of short toasts and then went straight into dancing. About an hour later, we opened up dessert inside in front of the gorgeous painting, then continued dancing until midnight. The Oviatt team helped make our day run so beautifully, and they worked seamlessly with our day-of coordinator and other vendors. We also chose one of their preferred caterers, California Cookout, which made coordination even easier. Having such a capable team gave us so much peace of mind and allowed us to actually relax and enjoy our wedding. The combination of a one-of-a-kind venue and a staff who truly cared about guests' experience allowed us to have a wedding that felt completely like us, and we would recommend The Oviatt in a heartbeat. read more

Overall, this is such a beautiful and unique venue for a wedding or special event, and the night itself ran very smoothly. The space created an amazing atmosphere, and we are very grateful to have celebrated our wedding there. The only reason for not giving a full 5 stars was the level of communication and coordination throughout the process. Since a coordinator is included in the package price, we expected a bit more guidance and assistance during key moments of the wedding day. For example, things like organizing the processional for walking down the aisle and preparing the cake for cutting ended up being handled by family members or the bride and groom. It definitely was not something that ruined our experience, but it is something we feel future couples should be aware of when planning. We also noticed that during the last few hours of the reception, one of the staff members remained near the dance floor watching guests for an extended period of time, which felt a little uncomfortable. We completely understand the need to monitor timing and cleanup, especially since we were told the venue closed at 11 PM, but by that point all guests aside from the wedding party had already left. Went to a wedding there a few Saturdays ago. First of all, the penthouse and rooftop deck are absolutely gorgeous. Somehow I lost one of my bags near valet and after I left, they secured it and held it at the front desk because they had no way of getting in touch with me. He informed us immediately when another couple was interested on the date we were looking at and gave us ample time to lock it in. Lindsey and Cami were our main point of contact after signing the contract, they provide you a welcome kit with all the info you'll need (such as vendor insurance and how to acquire it, parking, rental they can provide, layout guidelines etc.) and a checklist along with their due dates for everything they'll need from you. They even have a preferred vendor list in the welcome kit which is going to help you LOADS in wedding planning. Going with one of their preferred caterers is highly recommended. Oh and their bar? 1000/10 delicious drinks. We still think about the espresso martini. seriously. The value for money is incredible considering everything you'll get and zero hidden fees! Single-handedly, the best decision my fiancé (now husband) made was choosing The Oviatt as our venue. From beginning to end, the Oviatt team was professional, kind, and willing to help every step of the way. I first found The Oviatt on wedding websites like Zola and The Knot. I thought it was a cool venue, but initially I imagined going for a more rustic, warehouse vibe. That all changed once we toured The Oviatt. As we went up the vintage-style elevator, we really didn't know what to expect. When we arrived, Gabe greeted us warmly and gave us an informative tour of every space in the beautiful penthouse and rooftop. My husband and I were literally starstruck. The Oviatt is unlike any other venue we had ever seen. We immediately fell in love. After the tour, we sat down with Gabe and he walked us through all the details. The Oviatt team is amazing at this--it's so important when choosing a venue to work with people who are transparent and willing to sit down with you, hop on a call, and answer all your questions. Lindsey, the Director of Events, who you'll most likely meet after booking, was incredible at this. I changed my bar package about five different times because I just couldn't decide, and she was always patient and helpful while guiding me through the options. The Oviatt made planning and enjoying our wedding exceptionally easy, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to another couple. In fact, two of our friends who'd recently gotten married at The Oviatt were the ones to recommend us the venue in the first place. They did not steer us wrong. The initial touring and on-boarding process was seamless and attentive. We got clear answers to all of our questions and concerns, and the team had no trouble making adjustments as things evolved. The venue-related fees were all extremely reasonable for what you're getting, and we felt it was a tremendous value. If you are someone who's overwhelmed by the planning of it all or doesn't have it in you to evaluate the hundreds of vendors out there, The Oviatt can streamline things through their vetted preferred vendors list. We used this extensively and had a similarly excellent experience with everyone we hired, from catering to photographers to floral. We were also able to find vendors from this list that were able to realize our vision while meeting our budget, which was healthy and had some breathing room but was not exorbitant. We had a lot of extremely specific and arguably unusual requests that the venue team was happy to accommodate, even the week of. They were also there to troubleshoot when we encountered inevitable obstacles during the planning process. The venue itself is as stunning as the photos promise. They've recently been doing some historic refurbishment/restoration work, and the results speak for themselves. We wanted an art deco jewel box, and we got that and more. The penthouse elevator made for a grand entrance statement, and the furnishings gave the proceedings opulence to spare. While there was some concern with how we'd fit 90 guests into the interior spaces for cocktail hour while the terrace was turned over for the reception, we found it actually wasn't any trouble at all. The upper deck remained available and allowed for natural crowd control. The scene was lively and exciting, to be sure, but never uncomfortable. We really can't say enough kind things. The Oviatt is one of the most unique and most special venues that I have had the absolute pleasure of working in Los Angeles. As a wedding photographer, it's absolutely so much fun to photograph. It's vintage, and quirky on the inside, lending itself to so many photo opportunities with a couple on their wedding day. The outdoor space is also beautiful and different than most in LA as it is on a rooftop in DTLA, surrounded by skyscrapers. Aside from the venue itself, the team behind it could not be beat. I went to a party at the Oviatt penthouse hosted by Alta Journal, a wonderful publication founded by William Hearst III. Alta puts that Hearst money to good use, paying writers and throwing excellent parties, this time to kick off the L.A. Times Festival of Books. This was my first time going to the Oviatt penthouse, but it must be a long-standing event space--my husband Matt B. went for a work party in like 2005, when downtown was a totally different scene. The Oviatt is a historic art deco building, built in the 1920s. I'd been twice before, once for a party at Cicada, and once during a Raymond Chandler-themed tour of L.A. Both the lobby and elevator were attractive, and the venue was pretty remarkable, everything beautiful and well preserved. We explored all the rooms, including the spectacular bathroom, and the place just had so much color and character. It was also a great space for a party, with plenty of areas to hang out and roam around. The bartenders were nice and speedy, and there were some tasty hors d'oeuvres going around. It was a little cold to be on the roof, but the rooftop was tremendous, with lovely downtown views. We had a splendid time at the Oviatt penthouse and hope to go back one day for another party. I imagine it'll be around for at least a few more generations. read more

I loved it the moment I stepped in as a chaperone for prom, and I loved it all the more after I decided it'll be my wedding venue. Can't overstate what an incredible experience we had with the Oviatt. Not only was the venue perfect for wedding, but the staff truly made the entire planning and day-of experience so smooth and welcoming. The space is gorgeous and one-of-a-kind - we didn't have to decorate at all, there were so many little spaces and pockets guests to explore and mingle in, all the original art deco decor and furnishings were so cool. We didn't have to add anything (but could have brought in outside rentals and vendors if we wanted) - the venue rental includes seating for the ceremony and reception, the rooftop lounge was fully furnished was lounge furniture, the terrace is already decorated with bistro lighting, twinkle lights and ivy walls, and there is lounge seating throughout the indoor space. Also included were cocktail tables, easels for signage, tables for our buffet set up. All of these things at other venues we looked at were either additional costs or we'd have to bring in additional vendors to supply. What really made the experience though was the Oviatt staff - Lindsey and Gabe are both so friendly, approachable, welcoming and supportive. Other venues we looked at were all business, had a "take it or leave it" vibe and kind of made us feel like we should be grateful for even to be given the chance to have an event there; Lindsey and Gabe were the exact opposite - they weren't just trying to rent out a space, they were helping us host our wedding and doing everything they could to make sure our plans were realized. They provided us with so much information beyond what was required of them - they had a whole packet with a suggested timeline for planning, a Planning Pod tool that enabled us to track our vendors and plan out our floorplans and seating charts, lists of vendors we needed to consider and decisions we needed to make. Gabe had an actual meeting with us to discuss what we were looking for in a venue and our wedding, and have is all of this information we even booked the space. Lindsey followed up with us periodically in the months leading up to the wedding to remind us of what we needed to be taking care of and making sure we were on track. Both of them were always generous with their time answering our many questions and being flexible in accommodating our requests. We felt so supported and cared for throughout the entire process, and felt more like we had friends in our corner than like we were coordinating with a vendor. Truly cannot say enough about how wonderful this team is and how appreciative we are. We looked at practically every venue in the downtown/northeast LA area, and this one not only blew away the competition in what they offered, but it was also the most affordable option! It's really like having the efficiency of an all-inclusive venue without the restrictions. And of course all of our guests loved it - we are still getting comments on how unique and beautiful the space was, and how much everyone enjoyed having so many different spaces to explore and congregate throughout the evening. My wedding day was the most fun I've ever had, and it all began with choosing the Oviatt as the venue. One of the best decisions my husband and I have ever made! It all started with our first phone call with Gabe. We were just a week or two into wedding planning, and quickly becoming overwhelmed with options and prices. When we expressed this, Gabe helpfully and realistically said "I'm going to give you a list of things we DON'T provide that you will have to budget for." This was so refreshing after meeting with other venues that had hidden fees and aggressive sales tactics. We felt so comfortable right away, and when we scheduled an in-person tour, we fell in love. Not only were the prices competitive (we had all but ruled out being able to get married in LA proper on our budget), but the space was so unique that we knew it would provide a memorable experience for all of our guests, both local and from out-of-town. Gabe continued to lead with kindness as we reserved our date, throwing in a complimentary champagne welcome after I had expressed excitement over the idea on the tour and offering that we could split our deposit into two payments because he knew my union was on strike at the time. As we got deeper into the planning process, we worked closely with Lindsey, who much like Gabe was so fun to work with! She helpfully broke down all the little decisions we needed to make, answered all questions promptly, and was so helpful during our final walkthrough. What really worked for us with this venue is that aside from the bar, which you have to do through them (but the prices are very reasonable), you can bring in outside vendors as long as they fit the criteria. We were also able to rent linens and table settings through them and hire servers to bus and pour wine during dinner. There were never any hidden fees or surprises, and on the wedding day, everything went wonderfully! We even heard later that Lindsey gave some of our wedding party a tour of all the venue's unique features during the reception, something our friends are still talking about. We felt so well taken care of, and the venue is so stunning minimal decor is needed! I am so happy we got married at the Oviatt. My partner and I's venue search ended the second we ascended in the historical elevator to the penthouse of the James Oviatt Building. The Oviatt venue is a multifaceted piece of beautiful Art Deco history that lends itself well to whatever event you are trying to throw. In our case, they hosted our wedding. We will forever be grateful for their immense care and kindness leading up to, on, and after the big day. We met the President Gabe first, who had his own wedding at this venue before he managed it. He made us feel right at home and answered every question we could muster. Our one hour showing turned into a two and a half hour conversation where his care and passion for the venue and his clients became very clear. We felt a connection right away. He shared a wealth of great advise and reassurances and gave us an impeccable pool of preferred vendors. We were sold in minutes. Every event is different, but my partner and I did not feel the space needed any help to become beautiful. The architectural art of the space is breathtaking and unique from the valet area outside of the Cicada Club all the way to the terrace. We saved a fortune on a florist. Who needs one when everything is already so classy? Speaking of class, the Director of Events Lindsey took point on execution and was our resource during the planning process. I as an individual am not the most communicative. I needed someone with that attention to detail and she delivered. After giving her all the venue required specifications (seating chart, insurances, etc,) two conversations was all it took for her to equip the venue with everything it needed and make it gorgeous. It seemed effortless for her. Not a spec of dust or dirt to be seen and the staff was respectful, efficient, and welcoming. I had a panic attack because I forgot to ask them for valet and she was able to get her people on it without issue the same week as the wedding. (Don't be like me, but that is a perfect example of how on top of it they are.) They had EVERYTHING we could have wanted for a downtown metropolitan wedding and then some. If they didn't have it? They knew exactly where to refer you. One of my personal favorite features was their completely customizable LED lighting strips on the hedges that lined either side of the rooftop. We had them a bright warm light for dinner and then a cycle of rainbow colors for dancing. They are inclusive and welcoming to any and all who come to visit. We felt valued, respected, and well cared for. It truly was the best day of our lives and we owe it all to The Oviatt. I implore to to reach out to them. Gabe & Lindsey were amazing to work with. My husband and I stopped by in August and sealed the deal a few weeks later with an easy electronic deposit. Our wedding was held on a Sunday, March 24th. We opted for the cheaper beer & wine package, and Gabe was flexible with our budget offering two additional specialty cocktails (tequila, soda water & pineapple juice + a whiskey old fashioned) We did not opt for the coffee station, thus Espresso Martinis are not an option in the budget package. A month into planning our wedding planner bailed on us, but as a former event planner, and with Lindsey's amazing response time, we were able to pull this off DIY. When I say DIY, the venue allowed our guests to help as vendors from florist, to DJs, sound and dessert. We only were required the event insurance and I was able to provide my personal DJ policy (as I spin myself). A friend made the cupcakes and the staff saved room in the fridge to store them. We brought in our own sound, however the indoor area has a quality sound system to play among the rooms and indoor bar and lounge during cocktail hour and getting ready time, which you can bring your own laptop, ipad etc. they even had adapters if you brought your phone to be the inside playlist DJ. We were granted access to the venue for 11 hours with no additional charge in our initial quote. No hidden fees incurred and the bar was open for 5 hours of that time. Right during photos before the ceremony, Lindsey kept watch of the weather and informed us, "I's a 100% change of rain in 10 minutes!" However, this turned into a beautiful moment as all guests stepped up to move the décor indoors, and we decided to hold the ceremony with 80 guests inside. Once it was over, the rain stopped and my husband and I, whom wrote an album based on our vows were able to perform outside right after. Staff had provided us with trash bags to cover our gear in the rain in the meantime. We did not use a preferred caterer, but they were still able to provide linens, napkins, flatware and glasses, with many colors to choose from. We booked Border Grill who had worked at the venue before and were a great help! Gabe even allowed us to order pizza for delivery for the kids (picky eaters). The day went by so fast, I loved the bridal suite, hair and makeup found it easy to set up and Lindsey assisted with power cords to run as outlets are sparse, but the building is so classically beautiful and pristine vintage it was absolutely worth it! 10/10 this is the perfect Venue. It's right in the heart of downtown LA. The views of the LA skyline from the rooftop are incredible. I love that they kept all the original wood, furniture and artwork of the penthouse. It is such a unique space to have an event because there are so many areas to explore and take in - it's a very dynamic space, something for everyone. The staff is incredible, I cannot praise them enough. They are so accommodating and helpful. We worked mostly with Lindsey and Gabe, who were such a delight to work with. I really felt the love and passion they both have for the venue and their work. I can not recommend this venue more; with the help of Lindsey and the staff, they made my dream wedding come true. Lindsey was always responsive and available on the day of. Her attention to detail was great - she noticed the table numbers were different than that on our portal and brought it up, but was adaptable to what we had set! If you want an incredible event that will impress, go the Oviatt. There are also numerous hotels on the same block which made everything that much easier. read more

A private roof-top space for smaller guest lists. Very romantic, you have to get the season right, the Summer or Fall works best here. An outdoor reception and ceremony means lighting is key! The venue is 100% Art Deco; so if you're wedding is looking for that roaring 20's era, this is a solid bet. read more

Gabe makes lots of empty promises. We explored this venue for our wedding to take place in 2024 on 11/11/23. We were thrilled with the selection and Gabe informed us that they would "soft-hold" the venue, and inform us "24-hours in advance" should anyone else try and book the same date. Fast forward to 2nd week of December and Gabe informed us the venue was available and even shared the packages, so we may begin choosing and making our decisions as we gathered the deposit. On December 26th, we contacted Gabe excited to put the deposit down for the wedding Venue and we were being left on read and un-responded too. We later received a message from Gabe saying "unfortunately the date you had chosen has been booked". Not once did we receive that 24 hour notice that was promised. Gabe continued to go through the process by sending packages even though he already knew our date was taken from us. Put your deposit down early, since the "24 hour notice" is just a myth and they won't keep their promises. read more

The venue itself is in excellent condition, maintained with great care for historic preservation/accuracy, and spotlessly clean. The photos on the venue website very accurately represent the venue. We did a tour and several walk throughs in the planning process and each time we visited, it was spotless; impressive. The management of the Oviatt-- Lindsey & Gabe-- are industry experts in Wedding and special event planning. Their staff on our wedding day showed excellence in hospitality, our guests were wowed by the seamless transitions of our wedding timeline and the perfect service. The staff was friendly, warm, courteous-- worked effortlessly as a team-- and each individual showed great initiative, sense of urgency, and ability to self-manage. It was a flawless event. All of our major vendors, the caterer, dj, wedding planner, and photographer, were from the Oviatt's preferred vendor list, which is well curated. Services from the preferred vendor teams were excellent. Above and beyond experience. Several guests said it was truly the best wedding they've attended in their lifetimes. We went for a full open bar so your pricing may vary. The pricing was very transparent and the welcome kit sent via email after our deposit was instrumental in our planning. My husband and I are so glad we found The Oviatt while browsing for venues on The Knot. When we first spoke with Gabe, we knew we were in good hands. He was super friendly, really attentive, and made sure to address all our needs/concerns. The space itself is stunning - it has a timeless, vintage vibe and amazing views of DTLA - it was exactly what we were looking for. Gabe was very communicative and patient throughout the process and helped us make the decision to book the venue without seeing it ourselves. Once we booked, we had the absolute pleasure of working with Lindsey, who helped bring our vision to life. She made the planning process stress-free and seamless, and everything went so smoothly on the big day. Lindsey answered every question I had and offered alternatives/solutions to anything that came up. She was also very patient when it came to details we hadn't finalized. We held our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception at The Oviatt. We had around 90 guests. We went with one of their preferred catering vendors, California Cookout, which our guests loved (the tri-tip was a particular favorite!). The Oviatt had been on the list of my dream venues long before a wedding was even on the horizon and as soon as I got engaged, I reached out immediately to set up an appointment to tour the venue. My (now) husband and I only toured two venues for our day and when we toured the Oviatt, we knew immediately that it was going to be our venue. It has this great old Hollywood glamour 1920s feel to it and it was just perfect for the vibe that we wanted to go with for our wedding. It's got great views of the city but also great indoor nooks and crannies for great intimate photos for your wedding portraits. Gabe, the venue manager, and his team were absolutely lovely to work with. He really cares about the history and integrity of the venue and made the whole process of planning this wedding as painless and stress-free as possible. He was extremely prompt in answering our millions of questions and assuaged all of our fears. We had a potential weather fiasco that thankfully ended up working out but Gabe was so incredibly helpful and diligent in exploring all options for us if things weren't going to turn out in our favor. Our guests absolutely raved about the venue. They were absolutely blown away by the decor and elegance of the venue and the beautiful scenery from the rooftop. However, just because it's an elegant venue, doesn't mean that it's stuffy! This truly was the best of both worlds combining the elegance that we wanted but also the fun! Additionally, this is a venue that you truly don't need to do a lot to in order to make it shine. The venue truly shines on its own. We're so glad that we picked The Oviatt for our wedding and couldn't imagine having it anywhere else. Again, Gabe and his team were invaluable in making sure that we had the best experience ever. The Oviatt was everything my wife and I envisioned, and more. From the moment we stepped off the elevator, we knew this venue was where we were going to get married. The space has a cozy, inviting, art deco/roaring twenties vibe to it and is just truly so beautiful. This space is perfect for smaller weddings, like ours which had a guest list of 40. With vendors, it was closer to 50 and it was just right. The highlight of the space is the outdoor patio, which is just breathtaking. Our guests were all in awe, being surrounded by the Los Angeles cityscape, and the atmosphere throughout the evening was nothing short of spectacular. A huge shoutout to the team that oversees the Oviatt. Gabe and his team were accommodating, communicative, and so kind and caring. They made the booking process seamless and really lifted a weight off our shoulders. They are a team that you can rely on throughout the entire process, knowing they are on top of it and want to help in any way they can. Lindsey, the director of events, made venue tours for us and our vendors simple. She was always reaching out to remind us what we needed, confirming what we already had, and the day of our wedding was our bartender! Their team also flips the ceremony seating into the reception, and they were so quick about it that my wife and I were still taking photos when they finished. Another note that should be mentioned is that they allow their guests to use any vendors they please, so long as the vendors have the proper documentation. The Oviatt provides a detailed list of what is needed and it was so convenient having the flexibility to go with who we wanted to. We just had our wedding here in September and I have nothing but good things to say about Gabe and Lindsay and the team. First of all Gabe and Lindsay are super easy to work with and really good at planning events and very accommodating . The location is amazing, downtown LA rooftop , such a vibe!!! I was immediately obsessed with the unique art deco style and the moment I stepped foot in that venue I knew it was the perfect one . I love that it's outdoor and indoor. I like that they already have beautiful lighting setup on the rooftop . They have a very far and awesome bar package and can adjust as needed if you want that special cocktail! I love that it's nearby hotel Perla because that hotel is stunning and makes it all easy to go back and fourth to the venue . Such a fun LA vibe!!
