Vibiana once was the formal Catholic Cathedral for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. It was damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. As a result, a lengthy battle ensued between the archdiocese, who wanted to demolish it, and preservationists, who wanted to designate it as a historical landmark. The preservationists won and it's now an event space with an adjacent restaurant called Redbird - both are owed by Redbird Chef Neal Fraser & Amy Knoll Fraser. Naturally, it's popular for weddings but has also been used for events & parties. I've attended many fashion shows here during LA Fashion Week. The venue is charming and the courtyard is a lovely spot for receptions. I recently came here for a cocktail seminar - TOTC. Some aspects of the church remain, including the beautiful hardwood floors, altar, confessionals, & choir area. Tastings were held in the cathedral and classes in the adjacent building, which was once the rectory. The staff here were all friendly and accommodating. 4++ so this venue is a repurposed cathedral that is now used as any fat space. It's one of those venues in downtown LA where you just have to appreciate it because it's probably unlikely that something like this could get built today mostly due to cost constraints. My particular visit was in late January 2025 for a wine event - L'Union des Grands Crus Bordeaux Tasting hosted by Wally's Wines of Beverly Hills. The event itself was fantastic. As someone who's not well-versed in wine it was a great chance to try so many wines from the Bordeaux region, which I usually enjoy. There was a good amount charcuterie for food as well. Nothing really substantial but delicious bites that went with the wine. In terms of wine, I got to try a bunch across the spectrum of flavor and prof that included some oak forward reds to sweet dessert-y whites. Just a great time overall between our group of friends. The event lasted about three hours I think. The event itself was 5 stars all the way! My only issue with the spot, and it's not really their fault per se, is where it's located. It's pretty close to skidrow so if you find yourself parking in the wrong area, it could be really sketchy at night. read more

What a stunning venue in the heart of downtown, Los Angeles. Nice to see older construction, especially an older Cathedral, being renovated as serving a special purpose in the downtown LA community. Be safe, the evenings the area can be a bit unsafe. Travel with others to the event, have transportation lined up before stepping outside. Always good to be aware and cautious. The old church was renovated to a new wedding venue. The hall was built for the church service and now has instantly switchable from a Wedding Hall into a big banquet hall with flowers and tables and dance floor with band stage and excellent acoustics for the wedding, dinner and the live band. There were just two musicians with Cello and Piano for the beautiful prelude music for the wedding ceremony and live band for the dinner and dance afterwards and finally a DJ. The old steeple church converted into the ceremony hall and banquet room had just beautiful sound system that accompanied the nearly perfect acoustics for the venue. There was no sound mix mishaps! I was impressed by how important the sound system accompanied by structure built to complement the acoustic environment, in order to have a perfectly smooth event. The wedding was especially impressive because of the exceptional venue. The service staffs and meals were also definitely deserving high compliment. read more

Vibiana is an incredible venue location in the middle of downtown LA. It's truly a stand out option for any event for its food, incredible projection lights, architecture, and most importantly, the staff that headed it like Norm, Britt, Jessica, and Jennifer. Working here as a third party vendor, it was one of the most outstanding, all-around venue! I came here for a wedding and was absolutely stunned at the venue. It is beyond gorgeous and apparently used to be a cathedral which definitely makes sense given the decor and spacing. If you're coming here, keep in mind that there is a valet option that you'll want to take advantage of unless you want to park in self-parking lots that are just around the block. PRO TIP: use the lot that is directly across from Vibiana and not down the street and around the corner like I did. The staff here is more than friendly and the event planning team did an excellent job with the decor. One other thing I want to note is that the restroom is actually shared with a restaurant next door and isn't actually located inside the venue but rather in between the two. Other than that, it was a beautiful event and I highly recommend it but be warned, your wallet better be ready for those hefty price tags! (37/100--2022) read more

My organization originally planned to have our annual gala at the Fairmont. But due to their staff strike, we did a quick pivot and booked Vibiana. It was stunning! We had an event planner, so much of the credit could probably go to her, but the service was impeccable! There were servers all over the place and they were consistently checking on us to see if we needed anything. They have screens all around the walls so even if you're sitting in the back, you can see clearly what's happening on the stage. I would love a brunch or day wedding at this venue as well. Highly recommend, 10/10. Caveat: I didn't enjoy my food, but that's because I don't like salmon and I wanted more potatoes. Meal preference is totally subjective. read more

I was a dj at this venue for the second time this past weekend. I'm glad to say that this experience was much better than the first time (2015). Mostly because of the echo effect of a church. They typically provide the sound system and it is very convenient for a dj, but the first time the echo was so bad. Working with Victor (sound engineer) this time around was much better. There was still some echo effect but not nearly as bad. The venue also comes with some decent lighting effects in the dance floor. They also provide a sound system for the ceremony and cocktail hour. But it is dtla, so you will hear noise from the street during the ceremony. Parking wasn't too bad. They have valet, but I parked across the street in a parking lot. It's about $10 for 8 hours. Loading and unloading isn't too bad either since speakers and lighting are provided by the venue. read more

TLDR: Business that doesn't care about their residential neighbors, they blast loud music and Im calling the police at all their events where the music exceeds noise level. Major noise polluter in the area and management doesn't care about the impact they have on the quality of life of residents that live near by. This place blasts music louder than the local noise ordinance and every attempt made to ask then to lower their footprint has been ignored. At this point when the music gets loud, I'm calling the police at every event they have at Vibiana and if its your event, dont be shocked if there is law enforcement interrupting ur event. btw after 10 pm the noice should be below 60 dec my equipment detects way above that. Vibiana was formerly St. Vibiana's Cathedral in downtown LA and was built in 1876 of Italian style architecture for the Roman Catholic Church. Named after Saint Vibiana, a third century virgin martyr and is the patroness of the archdiocese of Los Angeles. In 1963 St. Vibiana cathedral was designated as a historical cultural monument. After the 1994, 6.7 magnitude earthquake, the cathedral was structurally damaged and the LA archdiocese wanted to demolish it to build a new cathedral. However, conservationists intervened, wanted to restore and maintain the cathedral. In 1996 the archdiocese and the conservationists reached a compromise to retain the structure which is owned by the city of Los Angeles. Subsequently, in 2002 for $250million, the archdiocese completed building the new Cathedral Our Lady of the Angels, just a few blocks away. St Vibiana structure was sold to the city of LA and name changed to Vibiana, which is now used for weddings, events and performance art venues. The Little Tokyo branch of the LA public library is on this site as well as an American restaurant Redbird. This Vibiana structure is one of the few structures since the 1800's a historical cultural landmark indeed. read more

This is such a gorgeous venue. I was here for the Breaking Bao Feast held by LuckyRice and it was such a amazing event. The venue was nicely cooled, super spacious, and was aesthetically pleasing. Highly recommend booking with them for your event. A bit more about the Breaking Bao Feast, there was 20 stables of food and you just eat whatever you like. They are small tastings of Asian food and it was super special to see everyone trying out different foods. It was our goal to eat at least one tasting at each table, aside from the alcohol. While we met the goal, we were stuffed beyond stuffed. It was WORTH IT though and would love to come back next year. read more

Transform it into a spacious event venue in Downtown LA where hundreds of people may gather and you have Vibiana. When I arrived by Metro, it was a short walk down 2nd Street to Main Street. I saw the line of guests along the wide sidewalk. We were checked off the Guest List quickly and efficiently! The restroom was to the far left corner and the stage was straight ahead. There were food and beverage vendors along the perimeter and in the middle. The entrance was large enough to fit a taiko drumming group! Outside, in the courtyard, there were still more vendors and a photo opp area for LUCKYRICE, the sponsor. The cool, fresh evening air was a nice contrast to the dark interior space! If you need to host a large event, consider Vibiana. It would fit well any theme because of its openness and flexibility. What a gorgeous venue! Vibiana, formerly a cathedral, is a dream location for a wedding or party. I attended a wedding here a while back, and I am still thinking about how fabulous it was. There are still remnants of the old cathedral -- the high ceilings, arches and pillars are a dead give-away. The rest has been transformed into a thing of beauty. There's also a gorgeous courtyard out front. Vibiana really knows how to make great use of its space. The ceremony was held inside, then we were escorted out into the courtyard for cocktail hour. After an hour or so, we were brought back inside for dinner. The room had been reimagined into the most elaborate reception hall. Perfect for photo ops! The Redbird restaurant next door provides the catering. I had steak and it was delicious. Redbird is on my to-do list, so I am looking forward to coming back and trying their menu. The venue is pricey, but there's so much you can do with the space. I would absolutely look into it if I had an occasion of my own to celebrate. read more

Our wedding venue! Sooo thankful that our wedding planner, Shirley Han suggested this venue to us! This was the first venue we checked out and we knew it was THE ONE as soon as we went on the tour. I absolutely loved the high ceilings and how white the whole space is because it's a gorgeous blank slate for you to really make your own with any kind of lighting and decor that you want. The venue is perfect if you are going for a grand, classy and elegant vibe. We had both the ceremony and reception indoors in the main hall, with a cocktail hour in between which was held outside in the garden/courtyard which is also very nice! We also got ready here upstairs on the morning of the wedding. We had our makeup and hair artists from Kelly Zhang come to us. They have a very spacious bridal suite and groom's lounge, perfect for getting ready! The groom's lounge even has a TV! :) We also went with Vibiana Events for our catering. Chef Neal Fraser did an amazingggg job with the food! Our guests couldn't stop raving about how delicious everything was from the cocktail hour bites to the 3-course dinner. If you decide to do your wedding here, I highlyyyy recommend going with them for the food too! If you are interested in booking this space, make sure you do it fast! Everything is on point in this place: gorgeous space, attentive service, and delicious food. The old cathedral space has been spruced up and is well used. The entry is imposing, the middle area is used as a cocktail space, and the nave is used for the main events. Apparently, they can accommodate about 600 people. The chef, Neal Fraser, was there and was approachable and serving a tender prime rib with black shaved truffles. Everything we ate was amazing, from the scallop appetizer to the vegan confit eggplant with mint charmoula to the vanilla glazed donuts. The best dish of the night was probably the caledonian prawns with curry rice, though. Usually large event spaces aren't able to pull off such amazing food since they have to prepare it in large batches. I'll come back to taste the food at Redbird after this experience. read more

My lawyer friend Rita RSVPd for the monthly Italian-American Lawyers meeting, which was being held at Vibiano. The location is in a very run down section of downtown Los Angeles, but the building and garden are fabulous. Architecturally notable, with fountains and a huge high ceiling meeting room. Beautiful detailing in the columns and arches. There were hors d'oevres on the patio, which were probably the best part of the whole evening, the best foodie thing was plates full of little truffle grilled cheese finger sandwiches. They also had crab cakes (pretty good), and smoked salmon blinis (not so good, the salmon was too sushi for me), as well as spoonfuls of crab salad (didn't try it) and a couple of other choices which went sailing by. The drinks were on the house and we enjoyed a mild pinot grigio and cabernet. It was a beautiful balmy night, and about 100 lawyers showed up, enjoying gab, wine and munchies in the garden, before moving inside to the cavernous dining/meeting area. I can see why people would like this space for a wedding. The choices for dinner were either salmon or beef, so we had one of each. Rita said her filet was too rare. I looked over and it actually looked almost completely raw, just the outside was seared a little. The beef was served with polenta which was mediocre. My salmon was delicious, wild caught (you can always tell because it flakes, unlike farmed salmon which is mushy). Mine came with a small glob of mashed potatoes. I noticed the the beef came with asparagus so I requested some and they brought it right out. The food was not 5 star but the location is, even in spite of the street traffic running right alongside the entrance. The parking is adjacent, very convenient, and there is a back entrance that leads you right into the garden area. All in all, probably 3.5 stars. The food certainly wouldn't bring me back. But the wait staff were some of the best I have ever seen. And I am always impressed when a venue can serve up hot food for 100 people. read more

Although the event is not as promising as it advertised, Vibiana is a beautiful, bright spacious venue for any occasion. It has a beautiful patio right outside with lots of beautiful greens. Parking is just right next to the building. I also suggests this place for a midpoint venue for any weddings or parties if you have guests all over the Southern California. DTLA is almost right smack in the middle. I do suggest and plan this place for my event planning projects. read more

They had the ceremony in the outdoor courtyard around 6pm and the cocktail hour just inside the building. I had my wedding here at Vibiana, and call me biased, but it is the best wedding venue in all of Los Angeles. It didn't win all of its awards for nothing. Although it isnt the cheapest of venues, the value it provides in its price range is unparalleled. So here are some reasons why the Vibiana is so amazing: 1. SERVICE: The venue coordinators Mary and Denise are an absolute pleasure to work with. They are quick with responses and communication, knowledgeable, and will go out of your way to help you within their power to materialize the vision for your wedding. On the day of, everything went flawlessly even with the little changes in timing on the day of. Mary helped us through the entire menu selection and planning process, and Denise helped us set up the venue, floor plans, and table settings so perfectly. Service staff were also very attentive, clearing plates immediately and always making sure that everyone's glass is full. During the changeover from cocktail hour to reception space, there were no hiccups or downtime in the turnover. 2. FOOD: The Vibiana is technically part of the Redbird restaurant, and Chef Neal Fraser (I remember watching him on Top Chef Masters and then his team catered my wedding!) can cook so well. The wedding food was amongst the best I ever had, and the selection is SO vast. They can literally whip up almost anything you want. The only gripe is that we wanted a boba bar and it was Vibiana's first time doing it. They did an excellent job executing it, but the tea was a little watered down and the boba pearls were hard. But I live in the SGV so my boba critique is super tough... 3: VENUE: literally one of the most beautiful indoor venues there are. Just Google it, Pinterest, etc. It speaks for itself. Basic lighting, backdrops, and the historical architecture create so many photo opportunities. 4. VALUE: Yes, the price tag is hefty (but not that bad for what you get compared to many other high end venues). We saved some money by having it on a Sunday. However, the service and food would be difficult to match anywhere else. Wait till you find out everything else that is bundled into the price tag. It isnt called an "all inclusive" venue for nothing. This venue is a pleasure to work with, and you will not be disappointed. It's so beautiful I can picture having the wedding ceremony and the reception in the same area. There is accessibility to a large restroom facility to accommodate your guests. There are parking garages/lots across the street and not too outrageous prices. This is the 2nd time I've worked with the Vibiana since Plate by Plate 2012 was held here. 5 stars all the way! This year Gabriella was our Event Manager and she is FABULOUS! So easy to work with, had our best interest in mind, friendly, accommodating and very straigh forward with fees, rules, etc. I can't emphasize enough how extremely IMPORTANT this is. The event I organized had over 700 people, over 50 restaurants, celebrity chefs, desserts, beverages and alcohol providers. Imagine trying to handle all that PLUS other vendors, volunteers and managing a team of 15. Yeah... lots of work. SO... I was so thankful that Gabriella helped relieve some event planning stress of us by helping out as much as she could. Not only was our event a huge success but the venue itself is breathtaking. I came here last weekend as a prom chaperone, looking forward to yelling "ARMS' LENGTH APART!!" at kids all night. I'd heard about it through the LA Conservancy as an outstanding example of restoration, and I was excited to see it. This is an absolutely gorgeous event space. Originally a cathedral from the 1800s, it has been beautifully preserved while restored, keeping the original elements (the altar makes a great stage and the confessionals are fun to play and take pictures in). As an event guest, I couldn't tell you about the cost or what the venue looks like for another kind of setting or during the day, but it was perfect for this. Huge, beautiful courtyard, with tall foliage all around that creates amazing privacy and makes you forget that the DTLA streets are right outside. The courtyard was strung with overhead string lights. Inside, the huge, curved ceiling lends itself to all kinds of lighting displays, for either a party vibe or a romantic one. There were separate rooms for photography, other activities, etc. and plenty of space for indoor/outdoor buffets. There was also a smaller courtyard with a fountain, and grand entrances everywhere. I could see also having an indoor ceremony with an outdoor reception, or vice versa. I parked in the lot right next door for $5, and I would imagine you could rent the lot for large events. Where can you find parking NEXT DOOR in downtown? A nice surprise. If any man is ever insane enough to put a ring on it, I'd totally consider having my event at this memorable venue. Or any other type of party. I don't even want to imagine the cost, but one can dream, right? If you ever get invited to a party here, do yourself a favor and go!! read more

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be well known. Recently attended some fashion shows here to kick off LA Fashion Week (Louis Verdad, Jeffrey Sebelia of Project Runway). A vaulted ceiling is supported by grand columns on each side. The architecture lent itself to create an atmosphere much more glamorous than sitting in an impromptu tent, as where most fashion week shows are held. There's a little garden for reception and hob nobbing on the side. Visited 6/12/16 Church is now converted to a rental for events. They were setting up for a wedding for about 200 guests. So far looks very nice. Interior is bright, white walls. Tables were covered with white tablecloth. A lot of natural lighting coming in through the multiple windows. Area outside of church also being set up for tables. Redbird restaurant right next door. I attended the Hope in the City fashion/music/art charity benefit show this past Wed and was suitably impressed. An old Catholic church that's been lovingly restored, it's a pretty cool space for all kinds of special events. The main area is huge, and made an impressive backdrop for a long catwalk. While it still very much looks like a church inside and out (complete with intact confessional booths) I don't know if an actual church meets here. The patio area just outside was lovely, especially at night, with strung lights, filigreed ironworks and lots of plants. There are two huge parking structures nearby so that made it quite convenient, and overall it was a great experience. read more
