Pros: These lofts are pretty nice. The color schemes are great, there is a decent amount of open space, the amenities are up to date, and our host Bob claimed that the building is pet-friendly, which is hard to come by in luxury lofts in Detroit. The units were priced relatively fairly and competitive with the other lofts of its type in the neighborhood. Cons: Customer service....namely, our host, Bob, who seemed straight out of a 1960s time capsule. He was pleasant at first, and it seems the condescending manner in which he spoke is just product of the stereotypes his generation tends to have about women rather than him trying to be insulting (he was an older gentleman). Yet, it still soured our experience. Any questions I had were mostly answered to my boyfriend's face. The unit we were most interested in was a two bedroom for $1600 a month...the square footage currently escapes me. The loft was clean and moderately aesthetically pleasing, but ultimately underwhelming. The floor plan was bi-level, yet not in a traditional loft sense...the living room and bedrooms were two separate floors entirely. Descending into the bedroom area felt like walking into a basement, and the two bedrooms were rather small and only had two medium sized windows. Being huge on natural light, I quietly mentioned to my boyfriend that I didn't care for the unit(he agreed) and that we had 4 others to see so we should not waste Bob's time and head to the next one. Bob overheard this, and said to me "Don't worry, you'll like it in a minute!" And showed me an extremely sad excuse for a walk-in closet with nothing but cheap wire shelves screwed into the walls. Sorry, Bob. It's going to take more than white wire shelves bolted to walls to sell me on $1600 per month. Any questions on income or employment were asked directly to my boyfriend. We quickly viewed a one bedroom unit where Bob pointed to the kitchen and the whirlpool tub and said to me "you'll like these, and he'll like that (motioning to the living room with a view over the city...I forgot that only men enjoy a view..apparently Bob's wife doesn't like a view of the outdoors while she gets dinner on the table for him by 5.) We left not long after that, both laughing and scratching our heads. Bob, maybe try being a bit more professional with female applicants, and stop making the tired stereotypical jokes that are far too common with landlords and female tenants. PS- we rented the next unit we saw, shown to us by Ken Davies with New Century Management. Very professional, efficient, and with the times where most couples keep two-earner households.

Every apartment has drop ceilings and the AC leaks every. single. summer. For the first 3 years I lived there, the A/C would shut down in mid-July (Shout out Detroit Beer Co). I had a build-up of water that created a giant bubble in the ceiling (as well as the paint next to it) for several days that eventually burst. Maintenance came by and cleaned up (a little) but I was without a ceiling tile for AT LEAST a month. Just a big old gaping hole in the ceiling for all my guests to see when they came over. On top of that, my AC would leak onto the floor, causing the nastiest moldy smell. They also sealed (nailed shut) all the windows last Spring (**Due to insanely high lead content on the original windows paint), so it was hard to escape the smell. Every time I called the emergency line about one of these issues, the manager (Marlo) never responded. I would get a text several days after calling saying 'someone will come look at it.' The live-in maintenance guy, Ken, is a nice guy but terribly unskilled and things are often (always) done half-assed. On top of all that, parking went up from $75 to $150 in the last 6 months. Which is average for the city but not worth it to park in a place that is regularly un-supervised and fills up during any sport/concert event downtown. A liquor store also opened up downstairs which is convenient, but ultimately brought along some sketchy clientele that hangs out outside. Oh, and lets not forget that you're directly next to Annex night club - which literally vibrates your walls like a German house orgy every Saturday night until 2 AM - in which, the cops would shut down Adams every. single. week. due to some fight or shooting OUTSIDE of the club - which is your front door! I'd say hold off on the Fyfe for now. It's falling apart, and some bigger fish is going to swoop in soon and gut that place. The location is too good for the Gilbert types not to notice.

Billings Place has exceeded my expectations & has been better than any apartment I've lived in. The entire complex is so clean & spotless. The amenities are superb and the units are beautifully designed. The management company is absolutely phenomenal! They truly care about the tenants and have been beyond accommodating. Michael & Bianca are extremely professional and do a great job with any work orders I have & are great communicators! The move-in process was the easiest I have ever experienced! It is a tall, white washed and imposing structure. It is appealing to look at. It towers over the local parks and intersections. Grand Circus Park is located just across the street from it. The building is within walking distance of the Detroit Opera House. The local People Mover station is also quite close by. I am not sure about the parking situation but they seem to have an underground parking garage. There are more expensive parking arrangements nearby. The building, as I mentioned, is attractive. The windows are very large and must offer plenty of light and interesting views. Right now there is a lot of construction going on nearby so movement by car is difficult. Local bus transit and the new trolley system are close by, so, not to worry.

As a NYer who has spent the past 5 years traveling across the US and Europe for work, I have seen a lot of different living situations. This is by far one of my favs. Corina, the leasing agent, was extremely helpful. She allowed me to come back multiple times to measure and even advised on possible layouts/ways to use my existing furniture. She and her colleagues are both professional and kind. I was originally concerned when I saw past reviews, but that was when the building was under old ownership/management. Once I became a resident, maintenance support is quick and thorough. The maintenance workers are sweet and are respectful of your space and hours, which is important to me as I usually work from home. The other tenants are friendly, from saying hi in halls to picking up packages when you are away etc. At the same time, the apartments are private and quiet due to thick wall construction. And the original details of this deco style building give it character--there's even the original doors from the icebox deliveries in the hall still!

It made a bad impression to say the least, however after two visits from pest control the problem was taken care of. Maintenance never followed up on a request to repair the stove I put in within the first week of living there which made cooking difficult at times. I was sold on the idea that this building was quiet but I found quite the opposite. I chose the top floor to be at the best advantage but I still heard my neighbors downstairs as if they lived with me, then the sound of the neighbors in the halls walking or slamming their doors which made the walls and floors of my apartment rattle, as well as the general pandemonium that occurs on 2nd ave, it was all a bit much. There were many times when there was trash in the halls or in front of the building that sat for weeks. It's an old building and it needs a lot of updating but unfortunately I never saw any notable change while I was there. The carpet going up the stairs remained dirty and tattered, as well as the one on my floor, the walls were scuffed and dirty in the common areas which really paints a picture going to or from your space. The floors creaked like a pirate's ship. Lastly, there are extra costs for parking and air conditioning that otherwise would've swayed me had they been more forthcoming. I want to emphasize, this is what mostly affected me and someone else's experience may be different. May this be a forewarning.

I am a 60 year old widow, working remotely and a dog mom and Woodridge has been a great fit for me. Any maintenance requests I've had are handled very quickly, the maintenance guys go out of their way to make sure the maintenanence problem is solved quickly. The office staff has been very friendly, especially Mallory, the manager. She is really approachable and the few requests I've had, she has responded quickly and followed through for me. I think it shows that management genuinely cares about the people who live here. After three years, I still feel confident saying Woodridge is a great place to live and I plan to continue to live here for years to come. If you're looking for a well-managed, responsive, and welcoming apartment community, I highly recommend it.

It is a super safe and super quiet complex and our apartment is really clean and peaceful. It's also affordable for the area (Livonia). It's true that only trash is included in the rent, but water/sewer runs about $35-50 a month which I find really reasonable. The kitchen is very small but if you're picky about having a big kitchen, buy a house lol. Bathroom is pretty spacious. They are really pet friendly too which is a huge plus for us as we have a dog and a cat. They do charge pet rent but so does everywhere else. The dog park even has some wooden agility equipment such as ramps, jumps, and a platform, and little trash cans and bag dispensers all over the property for picking up after your dog also.
