That happens. But the show was on & attempting to communicate with the "squatters" & Bre could be disruptive to the performers. (Many places don't even allow entry while performers are actively doing their show). So they were told they had to wait for intermission but were given other seats in the meantime. read more

The Park Theatre has undergone several changes of ownership in the past years, but now it seems they are on the right track and putting on quality shows. The theatre recently became part of the Spectacle Live family, which also manages the Jane Pickens Theatre in Newport, and several other performance venues across New England. We were here for Sean Healey's Celtic Christmas show earlier this week, and it was a great experience. We arrived for the 7:30 show at about 7:10 and went very quickly through the security line and the ticket checkers. AS the Brown University shooter was still at large, it was comforting to see an increased police presence at the show - The theatre is in a "good" neighborhood with no reason for extra security, but given the recent events it was great to see they were taking their patrons' safety seriously. The seats in the theatre are very comfortable and even have cup holders. It's a small to medium sized venue and there's not a bad seat in the house! It is connected to a lounge/bar, so there are plenty of drinks available that youc an take in to the concert area. Bathrooms are plentiful, and are on the same level as the seating area, and there is a large paring lot across the street behind Cranston City Hall that is free for concert goers to use in the evenings. Rolfe Square is in walking distance, with many dinner choices nearby. If you haven't been to the Park before, definitely check it out! It's a quality theatre with a great lineup of events! read more

Someone was sitting in our seats that we paid $$$ for and the usher did nothing and stuck us in much worse (view/further back) seats to the right side when we had center seats 4 rows back. He should have evicted them, it was not handled at all. We asked to speak to someone and he just left us in those (not our seats). It ruined our night so far. When it was finally addressed during intermission the squatters stated they knew the were in seats they did not pay for that did not belong to them for this performance. They reluctantly exited our seats but kept Stating they could sit wherever they wanted to. No, seats are selected and paid for it is not open seating. Their rudeness and nasty comments that staff overheard but again staff did nothing at all. Basically the park theater isn't a place we'd like to visit again due to this really negative experience, we don't recommend it. The staff then allowed the squatters to continue to heckle us. Honestly those (squatters) people should have been escorted out and the Park theater manager should have compensated us-tickets to a future event or such. This was not handled well at all. read more

Super impressed with this place! To be fair I did get a free ticket to a show after a friend won them on the radio. The little bar is super cute and reasonably priced! The seats were very comfortable! The acoustics were pretty great too! Definitely more comfortable than PPAC! read more

I was invited last min fill in. But I was a pleasantly surprised it was very nice concert. The place has been there 100 years (this year yes they might have said it a couple of times) and you can tell the place has been updated recently. It was a great venue to see a band. Place was clean, seats are new and very comfortable. Bathrooms where clean and prices for alcohol wasn't crazy. read more

This theater opened in 1924 as a movie theatre with 988 seats (247 seats per 4 aisles) and an orchestra pit, approximately 100 ft long....through the years many renovations have happened and today the theater has a capacity of about 600. Recent news say that the restaurant group "Dig In Dining and Entertainment" is planning to restore the Park Avenue space into a theater with more than 1,000 seats for dance recitals and other live performances. There will also be a big a big screen for playing old movies, a café and comedy club, among other improvements. Today, you can still enjoy many performances like the Nutcracker ballet which happens every Holiday season. We have been to the theater a few times and we think some of the renovations should include better audio and sound system for the enjoyment of all. read more

Traveled from Massachusetts to RI (booked hotel) to see the Duprees and others at the "Historic Park Theatre" 848 Park Ave Cranston RI. Arrived early and observed folks waiting in front of the door. Theatre was locked, lights out and no one inside. Waited around until well after scheduled show time. No one ever showed. No note on door, No e-mail, No posted notice on Park Theatre website. NOTHING.. They canceled the show and told NO ONE. One couple I met drove down from OHIO for the show as they were Duprees fans. What kind of professional theatre management operated that way? Went to an Elvis tribute show. the advertisement stated that the show was from 730-930. a "warm up" show started at 7:30. It ran until 8:30. The "entertainer" was awful. he wasn't funny, and actually pretty offensive. Made fun of "crippled" people and kaitin Jenner, among other things. it was vile, caustic, and far from "art". while a few enjoyed it, most of the audience was disgusted. "Elvis", Robert Black, didn't come on until 9. My group left after a few songs, because the night was ruined. Many other people left before Elvis even came on stage. I would definitely go see Robert Black at another venue. The theater should have said up front that half+ the show was not going to be Elvis. Additionally, the "act" that preceded Elvis has no place in this, or any venue. read more

I thought that this was such a great local establishment. Where else can you go for a good proformance, dinner, and nostalgia? This particular night was Comedian Wayne Brady. He was hysterical. The tickets were reasonable. We were stage left 5 rows from the stage and the view was perfect. The tickets were actually marked as obstructes, but they were not in the least. Not even a neck cramp. The entire facility was clean and well organized. The staff was ready and willing to assist. The sound speakers we positioned well , where we didn't leave deafened. I grew up with the Park Theatre as the place to go on a Friday night with friends. When it came back to life, I was very excited. I had purchased tickets to a show that I was not able to attend. So the ticket office kindly gave me a credit towards other shows. Well I found out the theatre is closing. And they don't have any shows remaining of interest. So I asked for my money to be returned. I had all intentions of using the credit, however, if they are closing.... What are they going to do with it. So I spoke with someone at the box office named Victoria, after many weeks of waiting on a response. She finally gave me an answer which was that she was working on getting the full amount returned to me but that she was expiring some sort of glitch. Which was fine as long as there was some sort of acknowledgment. A month later I sent her another inquiry, this time including Ed Brady the owner. After some back and forth conversation between myself and Mr Brady, he told me Victoria had left the box office to pursue another career 6 months ago. So I forwarded him my correspondence with Victoria that was dated less than a month ago. Now he has stopped responding to my emails and I still have no received my refund. read more

As a very young child, Mom always took me to see movies at the Park Theater and I was always elated, and then the theater went through a difficult time, but it has now revived itself and offers fantastic live entertainment. The seating is excellent as one can view the show regardless of location. The theater is simply, but beautifully designed, staff is helpful and kind, and restrooms are large and very clean. I did not visit the lounge, but everyone who left to view the show seemed satisfied. Last night, this theater was able to present Chris Botti, who has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist and what a phenomenal show it was. Security was there, but this entertainer was determined to get the audience involved and he most certainly did. So Kudos to this wonderful theater and accolades to Chris Botti and his spectacular show! read more

Neat place to go see a show. We were there for a concert and it worked very well for that. I could see going for a play/musical or other event would also be enjoyable. The sound levels were kept at a level where you could still hear the details of the music but at the same time were loud enough to fit the style (Buddy Guy). There is a full bar right outside of the doors to the seating area. The only problem was the bartender was lousy and forgetful. I ordered a jack & coke and......they were out of Jack. How this is even possible when the event hasn't started yet is beyond me. So I order another bourbon & coke and he pours me a double....neat and slides it across the bar and turns to the next person. Over the course of the evening I had 2 more drinks and went to close out my tab. The benefit of a lousy bartender is that they tend to also be forgetful. 3 double bourbons = $8. I happily paid the tab and walked away feeling better about my lousy experience at the bar. There is a resturant right next door that seems to run specials for shows. That evening you could get a 3-course dinner for $20something added to the price of your ticket. read more

This was a good bit of nostalgia for my family and I. Growing up in Cranston, everyone has been to the Park Cinema. I have fond memories of seeing "The Hunt for the Red October" with my grandfather over Christmas break in theatre 3 at the end of the hall. It was a shame that for years the building lay empty and even when construction began it took far too long to complete. We visited on a recent Friday night to catch the opening of former mayor Steve Laffey's documentary, "Fixing America". The film was great, but this being a venue review not a film review I'll leave it at that. I thought the screen was a little small, though i guess this isn't really a movie theatre anymore. The quality, however, was AMAZING. The film was recorded in blueray so I suppose that helped, but the film quality was really beautiful. The seating was a little tight and getting in and out of isles can be a challenge. I found myself and my family having to get up and vacate the row to let someone else in. The seats themselves were comfortable. The entryway was tastefully decorated and probably a good venue for a cocktail party of about 40-50. The bars were open and drinks flowing, not terribly expensive and a full bar, wine, and draft beer. All in all, I am proud that the Park Cinema is open again and I look forward to catching a live show or some other show there. We all need to SUPPORT this venue, as it brings great culture to Cranston and is a real asset to our community. read more

We have been to three concerts at The Park Theater and continue to be impressed with everything. Last year we saw Bob James and Spyro Gyra. Phenomenal. This season we saw Grace Kelly and Earl Klugh and recently Manhattan Transfer with Take 6. All of the concerts have been outstanding; the acoustics are great; and, there is not a bad seat in the house. Love the historic character of the place. Tickets are affordable. We like checking into the Stage Door Lounge for a beverage before the show - no need to gulp it down; you can carry it in to your seat and there are cup holders in the arm rests. Popcorn at intermission is a nice snack. Easy parking on the street nearby and quick in and out. Why can't all concert venues be this nice? read more

Okay. So firstly, when I went to buy tickets, I was personally shown where our seats would be, in the theater. Yes, I was able to plop my butt in our actual seats. Plus number one. Minus one star for the marquee saying Stanley Jordan(guitar) and for the person selling tickets not knowing this man is NOT a newcomer but a legendary genius. That would be tantamount to saying Tony Bennett(singer) or Stevie Wonder(singer).. It really irked me every time I drove by and saw it. Plus number two: Stanley Jordan iis a phenomena, playing the guitar with two hands and then simultaneously playing the guitar and keyboards. I met this very shy very humble man after the concert. I no longer swear but I told him, his performance had me swearing in my head. I was totally mesmerised and on cloud ten. I may have even shed a happy tear. Afterwards I read up on him further( I have listened to him for over 30 years) and found out , he created the start up music we hear when we turn on our Macs. (Out and out trivia, which could come in handy on Jeopardy, my all time favourite show for 50 years!) Plus number three: Boney was very good and animated. And honestly, I was surprised at how well he moved. He really plays to the audience. Everyone complained about the price of the popcorn but it is comparable to movie popcorn. And as a movie popcorn aficionado, it was soooo good!! It is beyond a joy to have this venue in our area. ( I can practically walk there.) And to not have to travel to Boston to hear some of my favourite artists makes me ecstatic. So I will do all I can do to support this (establishment. It is a gem!(Final plus!) read more

Over the years, I have had a number of meetings across from the Park Theatre when it was just a falling down...old building...and when it was a partially torn building...an eye-sore to say the least. To see what it has become as a buiilding, as a True Arts Venue, and then experience the actual performances, seating, sound and diversity of performers...in a word! Wonderful! The Food and Bar location is actually attached to the building and reminds me of theatres in London. I look forward to the expanding roster of performers, plays, musicals, and other activities! Wonderful customer service!!! My husband misplaced our tickets to the Beach Boys concert. I printed my credit card statement and brought it to the box office. When I explained my situation, they called the general manager over. He took the statement and my photo ID and within minutes I had my tickets!!! It was all done with a smile!!! read more

This is a great venue for shows. However, if you sit way up front you may be in for a surprise: lousy audio. This is because the flown house speaker arrays are set at least five or six rows back from the stage. So, if you sit in the first couple of rows ... good luck! We recently went to a concert and sat in the second row. The venue has small speakers on stage that, presumably, were installed to compensate for this design challenge. Well, at the concert we attended those small speakers were not turned on and we had poor sound. How do I know this? I got up and walked about eight rows back and was awash in glorious sound from the house speakers. Barring this easily fixed detail, the place is amazing. read more
