I have been ushering at the Gamm theater for many years. I started when they were back in Pawtucket and I still volunteer now that they are in Warwick. This location has lots of parking and it's easy to get to/from. The plays have excellent casting and acting with the help of their artistic director, Tony Estrella. He always does a great job picking the season's titles. read more

Still a great place to see live theatre. They've upgraded the concession area since our last visit - the chocolate chip cookies were so good! The bathroom signage confused many people. Folks seemed to decide there's one men's room. with urinals, and one coed restroom. Ok for me, but some guests I wax in line with were less happy. ‍ read more

Just about every seat provides a great view of the stage and actors - the seat rows have enough elevation over the preceding row that your view isn't blocked by the audience. That being said, while the legroom is reasonably good, the seats themselves are a little uncomfortable - and the seating area itself shakes and quivers every time someone walks up and down the stairs. However, the acoustics are sound (haha) and the lighting is good. It's a small stage and theater so you have a very intimate experience with the actors. Restrooms are clean and are unisex which actually helps cut down on the waiting (probably to the relief of women in particular). Lobby area provides drinks and snacks for those who need refreshments prior to the show or during the intermission. read more

I absolutely am in love with this theatre. I try classes with numerous companies and I had to give Gamm a try. I firstly looked over the website and saw all the options and what they exactly do and I read some reviews and I loved what I saw. I also saw scholarships that can be rewarded for anyone not meeting a certain income requirement right now which is amazing for others doing through this Covid and financial issues ( which I was at the time). Kate the young lady who's been helping me the whole way got me signed up for classes at that discounted rate and didn't treat me any differently. I also was going to Florida the first week of class so I asked if that was okay and the instructor Caraline was totally okay with it. When I first arrived on my first day, it was everyone else's second day but I blended right in. Caraline is the instructor and she's very funny and knowledgeable in the field. She does have a degree in it, so she does a good job, she's always very good with giving instruction. The classes flow very nicely and people pick up on it quick. Oh yeah I'm sorry I'm doing an Improv class! The class consists of 5 weeks on Monday's ( for us anyways) but 4 for me, and then magically we are told we will perform at our last show for family and friends, this is very intimidating to know BUT I know this is what we all need to know we did well and worked our butts off. The parking lot has more than enough spaces, the building itself is very well lit up you can't miss it and it's very clean inside and I love the atmosphere that it brings. They also do shows here make sure to look it up online and they have a bar if you go to see a show as well. I would highly recommend taking a class with Gamm, and seeing how much you love it. I'm very much enjoying myself and I've taken classes plenty of times else where so this makes me happy that Gamm lived up to the expectations! The Gamm Theatre - Performing Arts Near Me - Warwick, Rhode Island

The gamm is one of the best area theaters. They do a nice mix of plays. Since edgy, some classic, and everything in-between. The new location in Warwick also has tons of parking nearby and a decent selection of restaurants. The only thing that is a bit of a pain is that you need to call them to take advantage of their AAA and student discounts. You can't just get them online. But it's worth the call to save a few bucks. You can also go to the first week of preview performances to save money and they often have last minute tickets for a discount too. read more

What a great way to start season 31 at the Gamm! Saw A Streetcar Named Desire last night. Marianna Bassham as Blanche was amazing as was the rest of the cast, Karen Carpenter, Steven Kidd, Wendy Overly and Anthony Goes to name a few! The Gamm is so gifted with such amazing talent that it's possible to have this tremendous cast and still be thinking about other fantastic members of the company that weren't even in the show. RI is truly blessed to have this great gem. Under the artistic direction of Tony Estrella this theater has become my favorite in the state! I can't wait to see the next one! I've seen three shows at The Gamm now and I am hooked. First production I saw was the Santaland Diaries, obviously based on the David Sedaris essay, that was just a one-man show. It was fantastic, hilarious, I was in pain from laughing by the end. The 2012 season so far I've seen Boom, which was very funny and very well done, but didn't necessarily blow me away and 1984, which was amazing. I should have re-read 1984 before seeing the show, but I didn't and I still remembered it well enough from high school to appreciate the subtler moments. I just cannot say enough good about that play though. It was easily the most intricate show I've ever seen, with the four actors playing dozens of smaller parts, but there was never a moment's confusion as to who was who or what was going on. The sets are always flawless. In such a small space, I don't know how they manage to make so many changes each time, but it's always a whole new experience. The staff and volunteers are friendly and happy to help. The bathroom is always clean. My only complaint is a very small one, and that is that the chairs get a bit uncomfortable after a long show, but because it's so small, there are no bad seats. It's a trade off. I'm probably going to buy season tickets, so I'll see you there. read more

The Gamm is a truly special place. They deliver high-quality, thought-provoking plays in an intimate setting. Each season is put together with great care. They're not afraid to tackle newer works or to challenge their audience. Every detail of each production is done to the T, from sets, to costumes, even the pre-show music. What a phenomenal play! Spectacular acting on the party of all three actors!!! A must see!! The GAMM is the best!

I was recently able to go see the Gamm Theatre's production of Hamlet, and I was absolutely blown away. This is not the kind of top-flight stuff you'd expect to see in this setting. The set design was a genius work of simplicity, the kind of setting that seems deceptively low-key but ends up practically playing a role of its own - especially in the final act! If you read this in time to see the 2011 Gamm production of Hamlet, GO. If it's too late, be a little sad, but mostly be glad that the Gamm exists, and it is there for you and me to see outstanding performances in an unorthodox space right here in the (Greater) PVD (area). read more

I can't rave enough. I love the intimacy of this theatre from the lobby to the people to the performance space. Every show is an artistic gem - costuming, lighting, acting, set design - it all. There's often younger or up-and-coming actors that never cease to amaze me. And the mix of seasoned veterans with a more raw / edgy set of actors brings such energy & current to the shows. Happy to go back & back & back again. This is a small, black box performance space. 100 seats or less. They are chairs with arms, as opposed to traditional theatre seats. The front row is often nearly on the stage. You're engaged from the beginning all the way to the end. Go. Support art. Support this fine art. read more

It's small, it's quaint, and it's inexpensive. What more could you want? I've seen a number of shows here and chaperoned a field trip here and always have a really positive experience. The talent is amazing, the staff is professional and helpful, and it's a very intimate theater experience. I've seen Romeo and Juliet, Paul, 1984, A Child's Christmas in Wales, and a handful of others. They were all well done, and a pleasant experience. I like Trinity. I love the Gamm. Edgy. Bold. Top caliber acting. Intimate space. Intrigue of space inside the old Pawtucket Armory. They are not afraid to tackle new works and re-interpret classics. Overall the works are a bit darker than other area stages. I am still haunted by Festen, 1984, Red, and others. But if we go to the theater to be moved and explore the complex spectrum of human emotion, then consider me moved. It's a very special place. Everyone is super friendly and a lovely little theatre. Too many seats very close together however. Spent $49 to see Morality Play. I was squished. I am big and needed the extra space. Good mixture of audience even though I was next to a sleeping elderly woman. The acting was quite good and was entertaining. Left during intermission because of the tightness. I would go back however maybe try and pick a seat strategically. read more

A great theatre that despite it's small size takes on projects that bigger,more established theatres shy away from. The acting has been top notch at every play i've attended and the layout of the theatre has you right on top of the actors...all the better to appreciate the subtle nuances of the performances. For the last three years I have seen almost every production that this theatre has done. I will say this: I may not agree with the choice of shows, however the acting is always incredibly professional. Also I would like to mention that the set design has always been amazing, and I'm not sure how, but they can even change the seats around to fit what the space calls for. Three couples went to see 'Its a Wonderful Life' tonight. What a spectacular performance. The actors/actresses were phenomenal. I've been to theaters all over New England and NYC. This was a first rate production in a very intimate environment. Before the show started, the wonderful cast engaged everyone in Christmas carols. This is the type of show you want and need around Christmas time. To the actors, Bravo. You deserved the standing ovation. Thanks for a great theater night out. read more

We saw MacBeth here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting was superb and the sets, costumes, staging, production, everything was beautiful. I don't think I've ever been transported into another world the way I was watching MacBeth at the Gamm Theatre. When those ghosts showed up, I was legit scared and clinging onto my husband's arm. Great small place. I went with my class to see a doll's house and it was pretty good. The actors did a great job on there parts.

We have seen at least six plays at the Gamm now, and I am continually amazed by the quality of the writing, directing and acting that they produce. The stories make you forget how to breathe, you get so caught up...The acting is passionate and resonates for hours after the final act. I love watching my favorite actors in different roles; their ability to transform never ceases to beguile and amaze.
